Angie'z WeightLoss Attempt Documentation #1

Awesome job on the run!! We all have to start somewhere so even just the sprint that you did is a great start! Make it a goal for yourself to do that more often when you want to and try for a longer distance each time and eventually, who knows, you may even be running a km comfortably!

I agree with the direction when im working out. I find it hard to keep myself focused on what im doing if i dont have some sort of a plan. Thats why i have been doing videos in my basement (basement because i dont wanna bounce too much and break the house or have my family complain about the noise haha). I have some TurboJam and HipHop Abs videos i love to do but i dont want to say too much about them here because i dont want to be accused of spam, but i really do love them and im dripping sweat and my heart is definitely pumping hard after them. Other than that i just put on the tv for a show and watch it while im on the elliptical and then il do some free weights as well.

The gym sounds awesome! You should definitely get in there and put your membership back into effect! A personal trainer sounds like a good idea as well. I would love to have one and im actually thinking about inquiring about it again when the trainers come back to my college gym in september. I think they might even allow group training sessions that i could get some friends to join in with me for the support and just to make it a lil more fun.

Hope your weekend was great!

Update

Well, I haven't LOST any more, but that's not surprising considering I haven't had time to do anything. I've been working 10-12 hour days at work and by the time I get home I'm lucky to have more than some steamed food and go to bed. My boyfriend has been trying to be very good about helping me out now. He has stopped pointing out a lot of sweet foods when we go shopping and has helped with the cooking lately.

Another great thing that's going on, we're turning a room into our basement into an exercise room. We're putting the rubber matting on the floor, installing DDR and my exercise equipment etc. (The DDR and the Wii are basically so that everyone else can participate in helping me stay fit without making it seem like I'm the big chick trying to lose weight while they're the skinny guys that...don't need to do it.) Cleaning out my basement is going to be a LOT of exercise. Carrying heavy boxes up stairs, loading it into a dump truck and than doing it all over again.

I'm EXCITED for it!

We're going to be demolishing a fence and I also took dibs in doing that as well. I'm trying to find as many ways in my day to day summer life to get this exercise in while still doing the things I need to do.

My pedometer came in the mail and I'm so impressed! The guy actually sent me the one that I ordered and the second one that I was interested in FREE of charge. What a great guy! I'm going to have to give him a thousand recommendations and cudos!

Basically, I have one that records my steps and has an adjustable sensor on it, so I can fix it when it's too sensitive and counting too many steps. The other one doesn't count my tiny movements, so I have to take about 2-3 steps for it to start counting what I'm doing, which is okay as well. I might wear the two of them for a day and see how close they are to each other at the end of it.

Anyways, I feel like I'm not doing badly. I've taken to eating a lot of steamed vegetables and salads. Salads are basically my snack food now. They're cheap (as I'm discovering more and more) and they still taste good with the variaty of different dressings they have out there.

Mmmm hmmm

salads are good but please beware of dressing. it can be a calorie hog! I generally go with no dressing, but but something like salmon of chicken with it, both grilled of course, to add the flavor i would miss with dressing. Also remember what you eat determines if you lose weight, not how much you workout. workout helps but can definitely lose if you didn't. working out speeds up the process by giving us a larger calorie deficit, but the weight loss all comes from what we take in. focus ion that first and foremost. When i started this year the first 2 weeks were just changing my diet. i lost 4lbs those 2 weeks then added the gym where i began to lose 3-5 lbs a week. obviously that slowed down, but just as an example of how it generally goes. working out allows you to eat a little more, but you HAVE TO EAT RIGHT. its mostly portion control. the other stuff that are talked about are things that makes you healthy as well, but if you ate like crap, but only did 1200 cals of crap everyday, you will still lose, but you will have a lot of other problems to deal with as well. so. One problem people have is that they eat healthy, but still over eat, so just because its healthy doesn't mean you can indulge. it just man what you eat is helping you become an overall healthier person : )

Yeah, it really can be amazing how many empty fat calories regular ranch dressing has in it for instance!

Getting you activity in through summer by taking part in active projects is a great way to get things done. I should listen to my own advice here, Y yard is calling to me to get things done but I'm ignoring it lately...

sorry! I must have not phrased it properly. By my saying that I was eating "a lot" of steamed vegetables and salads, I didn't mean that I was eating like 1800 calories of salads and steamed vegetables slathered in dressings. I meant that rather than eating the things that I was previously eating (IE fast food, deep fried foods, processed foods) I was eating a lot more salads and steamed vegetables in comparison. I'm still eating a LOT less of those than would make it unhealthy or than would make it overeating. I mean that for lunch and supper I would have a salad rather than whatever else.

Also, regarding dressing, I use a low fat dressing and make sure to not use much. Just enough to get all the leaves slightly coated.

I can't stand the taste of salad without any dressings on it, no matter what the other toppings might be. It always winds up tasting weird to me and I get about four bites in before I have to put it down and am almost always driven to eating something unhealthy if that's my option.

Isn't that the truth! My boyfriends favorite dressing is three cheese ranch dressing. Thank god I don't feel any temptation to indulge in that with him! He can keep his 28" waist line for the moment and snack on that, but I'll stick with what I'm doing. :)

Unfortunately I fell of the band wagon for a while there and it took me feeling gross again to take another look at what's been going on.

A ton of things happened in my life recently and it made carefully watching what I eat and exercising regularely a very distinct second in my priorities list.
I feel now that things are more in order and I can start focusing more on what I'm doing/eating through out my day.

I am using this website as well as another website (my-calorie-counter.com) to keep track of everything from my desk (or where ever I may be)

Also...It's kind of hard to use an online community when I didn't have internet at home (ack.) I now do again, FINALLY, so I'm going to hop back on.

Even within the last several days I've cut back on my sugars again...Started drinking more water etc and can already feel the difference. (Also, after cutting out some sodium from my diet I ended up losing a few water-retention pounds...yipee)

I will update at the end of the day (hopefully) with my calorie totals... The likelihood that I'm going to get any exercise in is minimal. I work two jobs now - one from 9:00 - 5:00 and another from 6:00 - 10:00. I need to try to save up some money and get something at home that I can use (and go to the gym on my days off!)
