And it begins
5'9" and 237lbs, down from a peak of 252. I did not feel fat at 252 lbs but do at 237 lbs.
Had oatmeal with raisins for breakfast. Lunch snack was raw almonds as they fill me up. I just finished a late lunch/early dinner of pasta, olive oil and grated cheese. It came to just under 400 calories. I still felt hungry but waited a half hour before eating anything else and it has mostly dissipated. I'll grab an orange on my way out the door.
I have discovered I cannot have most foods in the house. I will eat them til they are gone. I have pasta, fruits, veggies, diet sodas, oatmeal, raisins for said oatmeal, canned soup, raw almonds, skim milk, and usually a big pot of bean soup. All healthy things. I even go as far as buying things I will eat if I am hungry but am not really all that crazy about like Raisin Bran. If I absolutely need an ice cream fix I go buy a small container of ice cream or a soft-serve yogurt for a few hundred calories. I don't do well with a lot of self-denial so if I can get my fix every week or so it makes it easy for me to stay on track. Far better than downing a half gallon in 2 days just because it is there and I am bored.
I might walk tonight but it has been raining and the trails will be muddy. I have miles of trails at my backdoor, some of which lead to *ha!* Walmart some 1 1/2 miles away. I put on my knapsack and walk to buy groceries. It is a great way to limit what I buy. Other evenings I take other trails leading to side streets on the other side of the highway. My hike the other night included both and took nearly 3 hours including the 30-45 minutes in Walmart. I am guessing at least 5 miles up and down hills.
Jogging hurts my lower back (always has) and cycling hurts my butt (part of being overweight). Hiking is easy since it is so close and I really do like walking, even at night. I have unlimited music on my smartphone and can download and listen to essentially anything while on the trail. It makes a HUGE difference. I just happen to be hiking as I am listening to music, not listening to music as I exercise. I recommend early Aerosmith, Muddy Waters, Rolling Stones, Beatles, and Parliment Funkadelic.
Again...weight loss is almost entirely mental and only marginally physical. Get your head right and keep it right and you cannot fail.
This is an amazing community. I wish the best to you all.
