And here we go...

Haha. Thanks SunFlower. I felt better today. Went to run for like 15 minutes, then did 2 hours of weight training with a friend.
Total calories for today: 1550. Not a bad day overall ;)

Another reasonable day. Ran 4 miles in around 35 minutes.
Total food: 1500 calories

Something bad is going on. I have just hit a plateau again. Hope I can break through it

What does your weight training routine consist of ? if you have just hit a plateau it is worth looking at your entire program.

Thanks TruSylver. I don't want to sound like a whiner, but something weird is going on. I am limiting my food intake to 1600 calories per day, and I am pretty consistent when it comes to this. My training involves a 5K run on Tue, Thu, Sat, Sun, and doing weights on Mon, Wed, and Fri. (So, yes, I am working out 7 days a week essentially :)).

Surprisingly, I am still not losing any weight. Apparently my body adapted to consuming less than 1600 calories per day. Is that even possible?

Today, I was frustrated, so I decided to go to the extreme. I decided to run for 40 minutes (4.5 miles). I limited my food consumption to 850 calories!! I am curious to see if my body can STILL manage to keep its weight under these kinds of circumstances. Obviously, I can't go under this diet for long, but I just want to get at least a small win (e.g. a couple of pounds down), then I can go back to my normal workout.

I will also try to go swim tomorrow in addition to working out. My body is playing games on me, but I am game :)

Your advices are very welcome

Alrightie. Today was a nice day. Total food consumed: 1500 calories, but also went to the gym for 2 hours with a friend, and we did fantastic with the weights.

I weighted myself today and I am 183, which is really weird. I am hitting some sort of a plateau for some reason, but I don't understand why. I am eating very few, and exercising a lot! Oh well

Hey there someone :)

The reason you may have hit a stand still is because you are not eating enough (sounds crazy, i know). When you don't give your body enough calories a day to even function it goes into "starvation" mode. Since your a male you can naturally get away with eating a few more calories than a female. I have been eating about 1200 calories a day and burning about 500 at the gym daily, so for you to only be eating about 1600 seems low to me (but, I could be wrong I'm not a professional).

Good luck on everything! Come support me on my diary too if you'd like :)

With the amount of running you are doing combined with lifting, without at least one rest day (no running or lifting) you look like your not eating enough, dropping down to super low calorie intake is not a good idea. Your muscles will also retain extra fluid to help with the healing and recovery of muscle tissue after lifting if your working with enough intensity.

Thanks TruSylver and Shawna. Your advices seem to be spot-on. Sincerely appreciated. I will try to be more careful and not starve myself too much.

I just got a book about dieting and it seemed to suggest that the way to go is to increase veggies, fruits and whole grain bread and cut off pretty much everything else (meat, dairy.. etc). This seems to be in direct contrast to what I was doing before. I started to try this today (ate a bunch of cucumbers, tomatoes, apples, oranges... etc, and cut off the meat and dairy).

I also did a 10k run today :D My first 10K run in, like, a year. That felt great. Didn't have the power to also do weight lifting afterwards though :)

My total food intake for today is about 1700 calories. I increased a little bit as you can see :D

Aw yay! 10k is a lot to run! Also, I think it is okay to eat some meat still, just very limited quantities per day (like 3-6 oz of lean meats). I also like to get organic, free range boneless skinless chicken breasts because they are not grown with hormones or anything and tend to be a lot smaller than a fosterfarms chicken breast. Also, dairy is also okay in small quantities I eat a string cheese everyday and have some milk with my special K. The key is to only have a max of 3- 8oz servings per day and ALWAYS go with the low to no fat versions of dairy product (the low to no fat isn't the best idea for ALL products but it is for dairy).

I'm glad to hear of your progress :) Keep it up

It has been so long since I updated this, but fear not, I haven't been slacking. Still doing good.

Today is a special day. I have *JUST* finished a 21.1k run!! (Yes, that is exactly a half marathon). I did it in 122 minutes. Not a stellar time, but not bad for my first time ever!

Now my muscles are sore, and I feel a little lightheaded, but there is a tremendous sense of achievement there! A quick check on the scale showed that I am now 165 lbs, which means I have lost 22 pounds so far (in about 2 months). Unfortunately the 165lbs number is not so accurate since i lost tons of water in that run, but i am still glad. So close now!! My goal weight (161lbs) is so close!

Hi there!!! Ok so cutting meat and dairy is ok, but are you getting your protein from a vegetal source???? building muscle does require protein also if you don't eat any you will be more tired! Legumes, soy, nuts are good sources or protein. At the age of 14 I became a vegan and I gain lots of weight because I was always hungry ( I didn't want to eat tofu or legumes) Keep up the good work out you will get there. I also agree that going down to 800 calories or so is not the way to go!!!!
