an URGENT PROBLEM!

Hi,all my seniors..
I'm 14,I have gastric problems, I started training some simple exercise,such as: push ups(15 a day),sit ups,bicep curl.
-Today,i tried a new way that my friend taught me yesterday : push ups 5 sets,20times per set, after one set, rest a minute, then continue. After doing the second set,i cant stand anymore,so I quit.(*I never tried before doing push ups over than 20 times.)
Then,my upper arms and upper chest are very pain!!! I cant lift up my hand!!
After bout 30minutes,it relieves a bit. Now,after 4 hours,my hands are still dont have much strength,my chest feels strange(like something is blocking my chest) but the pain relieves, and have slight difficulty breathing,is it normal?I'm very worry about it! What should I do now???

Was this your first time? if so I'd say it was fairly normal. For a child (under 18 = child) your muscles and bones are still forming and unless your used to a high amount of training, when you begin its likely to hurt you more then it would huirt someone who is an adult.

What your friend has asked you to do was quite alot for starting out- its maybe something to aim for but to begin with I'd say more 3 sets of 8 per exercise and take time to rest. Yes muscles that are heavily used will hurt if you overload them and in some ways you sorta want this as you know you've 'hit the pot', but too much pain will prevent you working out for anything up to 2 weeks (worse if its an actual injury) and so make your efforts a waste as you can't follow them up a few days later.

If you find things too painful, and also because of your breathing, I'd see your doctor, it could be you have ripped or torn something which could be very likely with your age and if you are a beginner. Otherwise and until you see someone, take a mild pain killer like ibuprofen and rest! But do get yourself checked out if nothing feels better after a week or if the pain is too bad to get on with basic day to day tasks.

Thanks for senior's reply,I feel much much better today.
Ya,this is my first time,I think i over-worked yesterday.
Now,the pain had relieved.
I'll rest for few days before start it again, slowly.
Thanks!

Hi there

What you were experiencing was DOMS (Deplayed Onset of Muscle Soreness). This is due to the build up of lactic acid. As a first workout, you shouldn't have done as much as you did, you need to build up to it

As a guide, makie sure you leave a day in between weights exercises to give your muscles a rest and a chance to recover. Makre sure you drink lots of water and do stretches.

Good luck :)

did you warm up and cool down? If not then you need to do it next time. This preps the body for exercise by increasing the heart rate and increasing the blood flow. Cooling down allows the blood flow to continue while lowering the intensity so the blood can still take the latic acid away and so the soreness will be less
