Each an every year since I was about 12, I make a resolution to lose weight. I've seen my weight go up and down and I am now so sick of it. This year in 2008, I am losing weight and keeping it off. I feel that I've matured so much this past year and I want to start the new year off fresh and confident about myself.
I began noticing that I had weight issues when I was in the sixth grade. All of my friends at school were smaller than I was. I looked like I was developing a lot quicker than them and it was because of my weight. I used to always eat junk food and never really exercised much. In 7th-9th grade, I was on the volleyball team and that helped my weight some but I always gained it back once the season was over. My highest weight was in high school. I weighed about 240lbs which is a lot on my 5'3" frame. I looked back at my prom pictures and hated what I saw because all I could see was my fat.
I went away to college, and once again my weight was up and down. I was hanging out with a group of girls that were not really good for me. One of my friends lost a significant amount of weight during the summer and making a huge deal about it. I didn't want to be upstaged so I was competing against her to lose weight. I began binging and purging and went from 220 to 190 in about 2 1/2 months. I began getting so many compliments from people already but I felt like crap. Eventually I just stopped doing it because I felt so sick all the time and didn't want to lose weight like that. I ended up gaining all the weight back.
Right now I am about 215 lbs and I want to lose weight the safe and healthy way, through diet and exercise. I will not be joining challenges because I know how competitive I can be and it can get dangerous again. I am excited about my journey and can't wait to see the results!
