(I'm making this very technical so I can easily go back to it and not just see me rambling for five paragraphs haha)
Alias: Amy
Age: 19
Height: 5'5''
CW: 141 lbs
Current BMI: 23.5
Goal: fat percentage between 15% and 20%
Motivations: health/fitness, aesthetic
Timeframe: until mid-2015
From the welcome thread...
How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
Changing my habits slowly: eating healthier snacks; making sure fast food and sodas and chocolate are weekends-only or cheat food; going to the gym at least 3 times a week for cardio, and fitting in weights whenever I can.
Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
My family, perhaps. Not so sure, they've been both help and obstacles before. A visit to the nutricionist ASAP would be nice. Otherwise, only I can help myself.
How realistic is your goal?
I'm not so sure, this is where I may need feedback. I'm sure it can be done, just maybe not in the casual manner I would like for it to be since I have lots to focus on next semester. But I know it's very much possible to change my habits and to have a healthier lifestyle, only the fat percentage goal might be more difficult to reach.
What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
My awful food cravings, my lack of motivation to exercise, my application for college, my family's eating habits (most of my family members are overweight, and the types of food that are made avaliable are often not healthy options).
Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
I don't think a day has gone by for awhile now where I haven't eaten either chocolate, pizza, fast food (McDonalds, Subway), soda, spaghetti or something equally as unhealthy. And I've started to realize that being awhile without those start to drive me nuts - basically, it's gotten to the level of addiction, and I want to get out.
What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
Learning to cook healthy recipes, replacing the items in the fridge, not seeing exercise as such an awful chore. Basically learning to like healthy foods and habits.
Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
I was into pro ana sites six years ago. It took me about three years to get out of that mentality. For that reason, I'm avoiding calorie counting and fasting days and extreme diets in order not to trigger that. It helped, of course, and I lost quite some weight, but I didn't have the right kind of nutrition.
How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
My family and I love to eat out. I often go to a self service restaurant near my house, and it's my healthiest option, but I also go to subway and McD and eat chinese quite often, which is something I want to change. It's also why I want to cook at home more - if my family and I can see home as a place to eat and eat well, then we won't feel the need to go out as much. I want to make sure my family feels this way, too, since it's really hard for me to say no to them when they want to order out or something.
What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Cut sodas. Completely.
Keep chocolate for the weekends.
Learn to make healthy snacks and recipes (my first attempt will be hummus with carrots, if I can find the ingredients here).
Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Very often. Eating out of boredom is an awful habit I've fallen into, and I'm really trying to change that. I also eat when I'm stressed or whatnot, and of course, I want to change that, as well.
In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
I stopped going to the gym for awhile now. I usually do cardio. Weights has been rarer and rarer lately. But I do want to return and keep up the cardio at least 3 times a week. Since a good session with weights tends to leave me sore for a couple of days (at least at first), I was considering fitting in a session after cardio.
This is for my own reference, but I wanted to make sure I got a list of things to do whenever I feel like eating out of boredom or stress.
Well, here we go! If anyone wants to reply with recipes and snacks they like or tips, feel free!
