AmbaLove is Tracking the Journey!

Hi Amber

I hope that you are enjoying your summer break.

I hope that things are continuing to go well. It sounds like you have had some great results from going back to the dietician (albeit a different dietician - shame that this one is not as nice). You have had some good results in both inches and pounds there.

I am interested to see your description of the Wii Fit. I had heard the term - but didnt know what it was. It sounds quite fun and quite useful. I love aerobics so I would probably quite enjoy it.

You have got me thinking about getting a Wii Fit - or at least getting a hula hoop.

Take care
Love
Margaret

We have both the Wii Fit and Wii Olympic Sports. They're great! The Wii Fit tracks all of your stats, and you can set goals as well. It's awesome! Not a replacement to exercise, but like Amber said, a great thing to do when you can't get in a full workout. I love that it gets kids going!

Hi Amber! :)

Well, I just returned from two weeks at home (childhood home). Stayed with mom and grandma...which meant quite a lot of grandma cooking (including desert every night). She did put in an inground pool last year, which I utilized all but the three rainy days...but I still came home with 6 more pounds than I left with.

Ah well. It was the longest I've been home since Summer of 2002. I loved and cherished every single second of it. I NEEDED it. I felt peaceful, and relaxed. I missed my husband like crazy, but other than that, I would have stayed longer.

Now...for some goals!

1. I want to lose 10 lbs before August 18th. (First day of school.)
That's 7 weeks away...so a bit less than 1.5 lbs a week. Completely doable if I stick to it and MEAN IT. I want that 10 lbs off of my official dietician weigh-in weight tomorrow, so I'll make a ticker tomorrow with that weight and goal.

2. I have fallen off the exercise band wagon since the last challenge ended, so I want to exercise a MINIMUM of 4 hours per week. Counting swimming and walks with my husband (or best friend's kids) this is more than doable, again, if I stick with it and mean it. Before my trip home, I was only averaging 1.5 hours per week. That won't do it! I will not be counting Wii Fit time, although I'll certainly still be using it.

3. I've been HORRIBLE about taking my vitamins this summer. I've remembered only about twice a week. I want to change that, for sure!

My aunt, who used to weigh 185 and now weighs 122 gave me some good advice when I was home.

She said she takes 3-5 bites of each item on her plate (or 10 bites if it is a one dish meal), chews each bite slowly and waits a few seconds between bites. She then stops eating for 3 minutes. She assesses where she is in fullness. If she is not satiated, she eats 5 more bites and repeats. She always stops at satiated, but not full. She said you can always eat leftovers, prepare or buy the same meal again, so there is never an excuse to feel you must eat every bit.

She also said she makes a list of snacks she has available on the fridge (some good, some bad) including the portion. She puts a checkmark by it if she eats it. She has to check off at least 3 good snacks before she can have a bad one. Her list when I was there was 1 apple, 1/2 c. watermelon, 1/2 c. cantelope, 3 celery stalks, 1 dill pickle, 1 pk mini rice cakes, 2 mini hershey bars, 1 ice cream bar, 2 cookies, 1 pudding cup. She crosses through her checkmarks after she "earns" her bad snack and starts over. She said depending on her level of hunger, she may eat 4 snacks in a day, or it may take her several days. She does not start the checks over each day.

She said she eats her breakfast, lunch and dinner on a regular schedule (and unless there is an outstanding circmstance, she is always within a half hour of her schedule), but she only snacks if her stomach actually growls. If she just "feels" hungry, she drinks water or decaf ice tea.

She makes lunch her biggest meal of the day, and tries to make supper more of a light meal to tide her over til bed. (I've tried that in the past and not stuck to it.)

She also said she has a regular bedtime and never eats within 2 hours of bed.

I am going to try implementing these. I think bedtime will be the hardest one!!

My official weigh in today made me sick. I am back up to 225.4 lbs (in clothes, about 222 nakey). Yuck.

So, my goal is 215.0 in clothes at the dietician on August 18th. (I would not turn down something lower, either!)

Hey just stopped by to say hi :) I was looking through some of your older posts and I saw where you wished you could way in nekkid at the dietician. I had a chuckle cuz I pictured you weighing clothes ahead of time. Do you still have an elliptical? I really want one but I was a dummy back when I bought my treadmill and never even priced them.

Hey Amba, I've had the same gaining problem myself of late and need to be much more strict with the food, apparently. Your plan sounds like a good one, and though most people dont have the amount of discipline to follow their own rules like your auntie, even incorporating a few would be helpful. Remember how much success I had on the 3 meal plan? I lost the most weight on that one with the least amount of hunger so I can see why she keeps it up.

I'm doing well the last few days, yesterday came in at 1400 calories. Today so far I'm at 775. I've been shopping all day for my mom (she said I dress cuter than her and gave me $100 to buy her some shirts with), so I have not had the chance to work out yet. But at least I've been active. I have two more shopping trips to make tonight (gift for friend's birthday and fireworks). Busy, busy!!

Claudia, why don't you try the three meal thing again? If you know it worked, I'd say give it another go.

Jello- I sold my elliptical when I was finally able to join a gym. I paid 2 months of my gym membership with the money from it.
I no longer weigh clothes for the dietician, but I do weigh in wearing EXACTLY the same clothes each time so that I know it is not affecting the loss/gain.

Sounds like a lot of us have been gaining lately..lol It is hard to turn down good food--especially when you're back with your family. Eating tends to be a social thing in situations like that, so it's understandable to want to enjoy to the fullest. But now we are back to the usual, so we have to get our rears back in gear, right? :smilielol5:

Happy 4th of July.

Hi Amber! So glad you had the opportunity to return to your childhood home and that you thoroughly relished it. It is just as important to feed our souls properly as it is to feed our bodies properly!

Don't fret over your recent gain, just be committed to the losses you need.

Cheers
ABBA

Well, my scale has me down a couple pounds today, I just hope the dietician's scale confirms that instead of giving me a nasty surprise.

I tried to be really good over the weekend, so I will not be impressed if I go up.

Just stay on the wagon and the scale will give you what you want. hahahaaha Well, it should give you what you want. Let's put it that way. :D

I just used a Wii Fit for the first time. I was skeptical, I mean, come on! It's a video game. But...I used it for 25 minutes and definately broke a sweat. I also logged over 1000 steps. Not bad.

I wouldn't replace regular exercise with this, but on days I cannot go to the gym, it will be great.

Yay! Finally someone with a postive review about the Wii Fit!! I have been wanting to get one, but I keep hearing so many negative reviews about it. The last few times I've gone to get one, they have been out anyway. I've gone to 2 Target stores, 3 Game Stop stores, and 3 diff. Walmart stores! Did you find yours on-line? They are all out on all the sites I've looked at too. Does it keep track of your weight? Is there a privacy thing, where other people can't see your info when they get on? Just curious!! I have the Wii Sports and when I play the Tennis one I really get into it and I definitley feel it the next day! Hope your having a good day!

Well, my official weigh in has me down 1.6 pounds! Yay! I'm now at 223.8, in clothes at the dietician.

I knew what day the wii fit was due in at game stop, so I called that morning to verify they got them in and then went over there. It does track weight, and it does allow you to set a passcode to keep others from your info.

Same here and i use the passcode as well the only thing i dont like about it... i swear it says ow when you stand on it!
But it makes you think about posture after i have been on it all i can think about is making sure im straight!

Well done on the loss!!!

Hope your ok

Butt being sore is a good thing. I'll probably get that wii thingy at some point, maybe when they're findable. Can you do it with 2 pads so you're competing against someone else? I know my 2 year old daughter would INSIST on doing it too if I was doing it.

Actually, my husband studies acupressure...so when I say something hurts he can fix it...but the fixing it hurts, too! (No real complaints though, as I am now med free for my migraines, he has learned to cure them in about 30 minutes.)

I am feeling quite virtuous right now. My husband is going to see hellboy2 with some friends, and as I have no desire to see it I am staying home and swimming. Also, he asked me to go to lunch with all of them before the movie and instead of agreeing, I asked him to find out where they are going. He said Peking House (Chinese). I said no, they have nothing guilt free on the menu, I'll stay home, but thank you for asking me.

I am now eating my 220 calorie lunch and will then go swim.

The scales Monday had better be rewarding for that!!
