I have been working out for a couple weeks, I have taken three days off total. My workout typically consists of 30 min cardio on elliptical, than 30 mins of curcuit training, I have started alternating days, I will work on upper body weights for one day than the next day do lower body. I have started also taking a core training class twice a week. My calorie intake is 1300-1550 per day. I have been drinking about 60 oz of water per day. I weighed myself and i have put on weight. Is this due to weight training? If so when am i going to see some weight loss?? I'm working out HARD my heart rate is at about 148-168 during my workout and I'm dripping with sweat. I felt like certain areas of my body were getting smaller but than i stepped on the scale and was 6 pounds UP not DOWN!!! I'm getting a bit discouraged.
HELP?!!!

I am not an expert.... Is your scale accurate, what kind are you using? I have heard alot on this board, you should determine weight loss based on how your clothes fit, take measurements and use that as a guide. However, I use the scale too!!

Hi!

Are you accurate with your calorie count? I've never been up that much unless I was over eating (like on vacation) or if I had consumed a lot of salt. Especially when I continuously worked out and I used weights and cardio too.

Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat - it's pound for pound. It just takes up less space. So if your clothes are fitting better, I would say you are right on track.

Sometimes I'm bummed about my weight loss efforts (like recently) because it's been next to nill. But then dh said well you are looking better - your butt is firmed and I can see it in your face. So that's all good too! :)

What exactly are you eating. For instance, what did you eat today? I used to think my calorie intake was 1500 but in reality it was 2300!!

Are you weighing each day at the same time before eating?

If not, there's your answer.

Also, if you are looking better and feel like certain areas are getting smaller, who cares about your weight? What if you could have the body of your dreams and weigh what you weigh today? Would you care?

I think someone else mentioned already, but I suggest taking measurements every couple of weeks. They'll tell more of the truth than the scale ever will.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what are your current stats?

It's all how you feel

.....

What Steve says!! It's so so very true.

I can easily fluctuate 5 pounds given my water intake, my exercise exertion and the like.

But I really want to emphasize the:

Also, if you are looking better and feel like certain areas are getting smaller, who cares about your weight?

Yesterday I was 134.6 and today, after my intense beloved bash-the-body upper body weight lifting workout, I was 135.2 . It probably happened because of the water I drank, the food I ate....but wow, three years ago, if I had seen an increase after beating myself into a quiveringly joyous mass, I'd have given up (I actually did back then. But my poundage didn't - I probably added 10 more!).

Data points,

Barbara
