Am I doing this Correctly?

Hello folks. I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if you could help me out.

I am 22 years old 235lbs (large boned...my ribs almost pop out...heh) Recently my mother has had heart praoblems also stress. Including a heart attack, anxiety attack. She is only 40, and she has also suffered from a weight problem and when her problems started, it opened my eyes.

So, I started to eat healthier, eatting less during a meal.

My workout consists of walking a half mile for warm up, then jogging in place for 45 min(i have asthma problems...so its almost impossible for me to go out and jog around...but i do jog in place, my hands flailing about and sometimes i mix in jump roping while i do this.). Then i do another half mile walk to cool me down. I have also looked into cycle training. including Push-ups, leg raises, dips, weightless squats, bycicle crunches, skipping rope and crunches.

I also take a suppliment called Mega-T Green Tea supplement(it helps me in the bathroom *wink wink*) And i also take Hydroxycut (first week i did 1 pill 3 times a day, now i am at 2 pills 3 times a day, and soon 3 pills 3 times a day as it says on the bottle)

My question is...do you think that this can work for me? or is there anything else that i could throw in there to help me lose weight as healthy but as soon as possible? thanks for your help!!

Justin!

Sounds like you're doing fine. I would recommend straight jumping rope over running in place - it may seem like you get tired out too quickly, but this isn't a bad thing.

Green tea supplements are good, but green tea is better. The EGCG in green tea has been shown in recent research to be an extremely powerful antioxidant, and is chemically very similar to compounds found in pharmaceutical cancer treatments.

Hydroxycut is pretty alright, but as with all thermogenics, the effect is minimal and will only *help* you reach your goal. You can't use hydroxycut or any thermogenic like a crutch. Also, with a history of heart problems in your family, you'll want to stay away from heavier thermogenics (ephedra, ephedrine, stimulant combinations, etc.) as it can do a number on your heart and blood pressure.

As far as eating healthier, and eating less during a meal, those are basically the two of the three elements you generally want to focus on. The third is to eat more often - 5 - 7 meals a day (between 1-2 times the size of an adult fist, which is the size of your stomach when it's unstretched). You'll keep your body metabolizing and digesting, you'll have a lot more energy for your workouts and general life, and you'll be less hungry throughout the day.

i dont know about the hydroxycut but i think you're on the right track with the rest of it. you're smart to think about your future now, you may never face any of the same problems if you take care of yourself. my mom had diabetes and took poor care of herself her whole life - smoked, drank, never exercised, etc. it came back to haunt her and she died young. didnt have to be that way.
i guess my advice would be to keep up the regular exercise, watch those calories & stay away from all fast food, sodas, candy and stuff like that. eat a lot of whole grains, salads, veggies and so forth. and keep your portions in control, lot's of people totally overeat. i'm sure others here will chime in as well. good luck to you!

thank you guys for your help and advice!!

when you say to get more into the jump roping, how long should i jump rope to get a decent workout?

as far as the green tea goes, i have 2 sugar free glasses a day. One when i wake up, and one mid afternoon usually an hour before dinner.

And i did not know that the meals should be the size of an adult fist. LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY!! :-D

ALso, Shimmering, im sorry to hear about your mother...and thanks for all your help!!

Also one more question if I may ask it. I know that you should eat 5-7 meals a day, but...is it possible to shrink your stomach in a healthy way? i think my tummy is a bit over sized and at times its hard for me to get full from a meal, causing me to eat more. And i find this bad because you are not suppose to be hungry, but you should not also eat that much. Is it possible to shrink my stomach somehow?

Thanks again folks for your help and support!!!

Yes - by eating smaller meals, like I suggested. If you eat 5-7 small meals a day, it should end up being equivalent or slightly over 3 larger meals a day. However, you are burning more calories and keeping your body active longer in this way, so your net calories is lower.

ok ok...i understand now!!! thanks a lot!!! also... is there a time table/schedual that you would recommend? THANKS AGAIN AND WISH ME LUCK!! :)

Welcome!!

About the jump-roping - it can be fairly strenuous for most people, especially when beginning. Why don't you see how long you can go, and then continue to add on a few minutes each week?

When eating 5-7 meals/day, it usually averages out to one meal every 2-3 hours. It's great because you never get hungry - so you have little desire to snack on unhealthy foods or gorge yourself on a huge supper.

Best of luck!

it may be tough sometimes at first, changing your diet so much but as time goes by your stomach will shrink and you'll be full with a lot less food. and dont kid yourself, you'll most likely get cravings sometimes. but with time it all get's easier - eventually you'll probably be looking at food a whole different way.
jump roping is great exercise alright, very tough to do for a long time. just build up your endurance slowly, you'll get better and better. just stay focused on your goals. :)
and thanks, i miss my mom and she probably would have lived a lot longer had she eaten better and exercised. as happens to a lot of people of course. for a reasonably healthy person it doesnt take that much to stay in good shape, so much can be accomplished with a little work.

like the other members have said in this thread, 5-7 meals is needed to keep your metabolism going. I would stop taking the hydroxycut. The reason is that thermogenics do very little to help with weightloss. What I suggest you do is get a good multivitamin and start with that.

THanks Waz. I do have a good multi vitamin(i think) it is a One-A-Day Weight Control Multi-vitamin.

And i guess you could say that i use the Hydroxycut more for energy. with my asthma, my natural energy is low and after my main meals, sometimes i dont feel like doing anything, but with the hydroxycut, i am getting more energy and i do some cardio after my meals. It's so i can get use to the fact that i will have cardio in my daily regiment everyday. I only have a bottle of 60 and once they are gone, im done with them. i guess its just to get my mind use to it.

Thanks again everyone!!! :)
