Am I doing it wrong?

Hello Everyone,

I decided to find a site where i could ask some questions about weight loss since i am having an issue with it. I'm not sure if i am doing it the right way or the wrong way, For example.. I am at 180.. And lately i have been eating tons of veggies, drinking water and orange juice and sometimes i eat little chicken fingers and a salad on the side and some lean cuisine tiny meals for dinner. I'm trying to not mess up. The only issue i have is the exercising part. When i do stuff from old exercising videos i have i start to hurt bad bad the next day. I'm not sure if i'm doing too much or too little or what. I wish i had something to tell me how much i need to do being out of shape and which ones i should do.

I'm desperately having self image issues being 180. Its making me depressed so i think losing weight would help me out alot to get over this depression since my doctor said this is what is causing the depression.

Any advice ? Thanx :)

You make it sound like you're walking a balance beam and you're trying your darnedest not to fall off. Perception can be a sonuvabitch if you let it go uncontrolled. There isn't a right/wrong way of going about things.

It's hard to give you feedback on your diet based on what you posted. Hopefully you're not starving yourself.

On the exercise front, ease into it. Being sore when you introduce a new stress to the body will cause what's known as delayed onset muscle soreness. If you're consistent and stick with it, it will subside.

I say keep doing what your doing.

When I first started working out seriouly about a year ago I was sore for an entire week, but I didn't give up; I stuck with my regimen, and though it hurt, eventually the pain will leave your body. It sucks, believe me i know, but in the end you'll feel and be stronger. It's like the saying goes:

"Pain is weakness leaving the body."

Hang it there!!! :hurray:

I am hanging in.. though being in alot of stress and depression makes it hard. I have been constipated for a few weeks which is very odd.. that and my whole body feels tight all over with pressure.

I'd suggest two things:

The first thing I'd suggest is registering for a free account on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and starting to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

The next thing I'd suggest is checking out the various sticky posts in the exercise area of the forum (Weight Loss Through Exercise - Weight Loss Forum). There are some very good posts on exercise, both cardio/aerobic and on incorporating weight lifting into your exercise plans.

I suspect the "tight" feeling is from eating alot of processed food and getting a lot of sodium (based on what you said above).

If you could list more of what you eat on a daily basis and give more information on the type of exercise you're doing, we could give more advice.
