alot of food, but not enough calories?

What would you body do if say you were eating alot, but say you weren't getting enough calories (like if you only ate protien shakes and fruit for a day). Would the motabilism slow and your body prepare for starvation, like what happens when you only eat a meal or two a day, or would the motabilism and body fuctions stay the same despite a large calorie deficit?

Well hmmm the body would be likely to cause the sensation of hungar as a signal that it isnt getting all the right nutrients. I think the metabolism in the meantime would still function the same but its source would be different. Hard to answer, kinda a vague question :D

If you're eating a lot you are getting a lot of calories. Foods are made of grams of calories (well, and fiber).

Well, lets say you ate 4 eggs whites for breakfast (68 cals), a protien shake later in the morning (120 cals), 4 kiwis for the later morning (184 cals), 13 wheat thins for lunch (80 cals), two apples for the afternoon (242 cals), four more egg whites for dinner (68 cals), and a protien shake for the evening (120 cals).

Lots of food, but the total cals is only 882, not nearly enough for most people, even if their on a diet. See you can be eating alot, but the calories may not be enough fro you. I'm just wondering what your body would do in that kind of situation. Would it prepare for starvation mode? Or would it constantly be breaking down large amounts of muscle and fat to make up for the lack of energy, despite having lots of food going through the body?

Sounds like what you're trying to ask is what would happen if you had a very small amount of food spread out throughout the day.

Answer: Starvation mode

If that's not what you meant and you seriously think that what you listed off is a lot of food then I don't really know what to tell ya

forget the food you have, its all about the energy in them.
Obviously the bodies intake wouldnt meet the requirements, so it would start breaking down potential energy in the body.

Variety is the key to a healthy food plan I think. Eating the same foods day in and day out (even the best ones) may still leave some holes in your diet. Having a variety of foods reduces that risk. (e.g., it's funny how people seem to forget about vegetables when making up a food plan - I know because I've done it too). If I remember correctly, some diseases, like scurvy, are caused by an insufficiency of a key nutrient. So it's not all about the number of calories, because not all calories are created equal.

Lol, that sounds like breakfast (of which I often have 2), that really isn't much food at all

And besides, if it's never had a pulse then it's nothing more than garnish anyway! :D

well, it's not alot of food, I just wanted to give an example. I should have gone further I guess, lol.

Oh, and nice quote CCR, I think I'm going to steal that :)
