Alligatorob's Diary

Another good day, I ate well and did another 2+ hours at the gym. I am feeling better!
I hate to be that person but I'm going to anyway: maybe go for a walk instead of going to the gym two days in a row after having had surgery and not really exercised for weeks?
I understand and I probably should clarify. My time at the gym is always busy and moving, but I don't exercise as hard as I did before the surgery, so its not as drastic as it seems. For example I am only a bit sore from yesterday, a full 2 hour session would have left me very sore, if I could even do it. Today I did get more tired, it was legs day, always harder for me. I am going back tomorrow. The reason for 3 days in a row is that I wanted to do a full week with my trainer to get restarted, and she is taking a long weekend, starting Thursday morning, so 3 days in a row was my option. So far I don't regret it, I am feeling better for it. I think better than had I not exercised.

Glad to hear you're taking it easy!

Another good day, 2+ hours in the gym and I ate well. Feeling a bit sore now, but not bad. Still not at 100%, but I am feeling better for the exercise.
Glad to hear you're taking it easy!
Thanks LaMa, I am contemplating going to the gym again tomorrow, it would be for a HITT class, not weight lifting.

Congrats Rob!

I'll echo LaMa's word of caution. You obviously know your body best, but at this point an injury will set you back a lot more than you'd gain from a 4th day in a row of exercise - 6th? if counting yard work (again, coming from zero exercise) .

Quite bluntly: HITT is NOT what you want to be doing at this point, weights or not. Way too intense (it´s right there in the name...), especially in a group setting where people are pushing each other. Of course most HIIT classes aren´t actually HIIT, and I hope that´s the case here.

I hope that you decided against the HITT class, Rob. It would be awful to have a setback at this stage. LaMa asked about your bike a while back. Do you still ride it?

It was a good day, I did listen to y'all and did not go to the gym. Still got some exercise, some yardwork and general around the house kinds of things. No plans for the gym tomorrow either. Got a Dr's appointment to talk about my blood tests... I came up a bit short on calories today, not be design I just got busy and it happened.

Like I said, I listened and did not go, and I know y'all were right, thanks!

Never knew you to be anything else, LOL! It is one of your better traits.

I have not for a few months, I do need to get it out and ride again.

Today was a good day, I ate well and got some exercise in. The exercise was just yardwork and some painting, but at least it was something. I have decided to try and do 3 days a week in the gym for a while, with just the yardwork and related things in-between.

The doctor told me that I do definitely have anemia, not real bad but anemia. He says that is why I am feeling so tired and having trouble getting motivated to exercise. He did however say that doing some exercise was a good idea and best for me. He was not sure why I am anemic, he said it could be residual surgery effect, he also thought it was possible that my body was still trying to adjust to the weight loss. He said when someone loses as much weight as I do it takes a while to adjust. He has ordered a colonoscopy (yuck!) just to be sure its not intestinal bleeding, and he wants regular blood testing to see if things are getting better or worse. At least I know part of what's wrong, just not why...
That's how you keep us nagging: cave!
I do appreciate the nagging, and even though some don't believe it I do always listen and consider what y'all have to say.

Rob, did he recommend you eating more red meat? G has had a colonoscopy & he said it wasn’t too bad & he’s a bit of a sook with medical procedures. It’s the stuff you take the day before & needing to be near the toilet that he didn’t like.
Glad your doctor is being thorough & glad you are being sensible about the gym.

Not a bad day, I ate well and did some yardwork. However I spent way too many hours on the phone with Dell Tech support trying (unsuccessfully) to set up my new computer. Left me more exhusted than any gym workout... and I have no idea how much longer it will take.

Thanks Cate, guess I should not worry too much about the procedure. Always good to hear of other's experiences. The doctor did ask about my diet, but when I told him that I have been taking iron supplements for months he seemed satisfied.

When you go for that colonoscopy maybe mention the extraordinary amount of roughage you eat. Maybe that could influence absorption?

Another decent day, calories a little light, but ok. My exercise was limited to yardwork again, but tomorrow will try the gym again.

How would absorption be influenced? I assume you are talking about absorption of nutrient through the intestines.

I don't know enough about the digestive process to be sure but if you eat so much roughage that it irritates your small intestines the inflammation might influence absorption. Just saying this because I was anemic all my life until I found ways to eat that heavily reduced my eternal stomach aches.

Today was a good day, I ate well and exercised. Did 2 hours at the gym this morning. I am still feeling a bit anemic, tired and lightheaded, but able to do the gym, and I think I feel better the rest of the day for it. Back to something closer to my presurgery routine this morning.

That's interesting, I may try a few low roughage days to see if it makes a difference. However after the hernia surgery my stomach aches are pretty much gone, roughage or not...

It was a good day, I ate well and put in 2 hours and 5 min at the gym. It was leg day, the most tiring of my routines. Tomorrow I think I will give the gym a break. Feeling ok tonight, but a little lightheaded.

Thanks LaMa, I need to remember the benefits of the surgery substantially outweigh the problems. I needed it.

Another good day, ate well went to the gym and feeling good tonight. I finally seem to be emerging from the lightheaded and weak feeling. If it was the surgery that caused it healing sure was slow. Just noticed no post yesterday. I know I typed it in, but somehow I must not have posted it! Oh well, I was fine yesterday.

I took 6 weeks to recover from my last general anaesthetic, Rob. Maybe it affects you similarly. Glad you’re bouncing back xo
