Alligatorob's Diary

I am more worried that I will feel too good and try to exercise more than I should. Will keep an eye on that.
That's good that you know to keep an eye out for that. It would suck to put off proper recovery by pushing too hard too fast.

I can’t imagine getting sick of peaches. Glad you’re feeling a bit better, Rob. Any op takes it out of you.

Today (yesterday at this point) was not as good as yesterday, but I ate well and am feeling better tonight. I had intended to do another easy walk but did not feel up to it when the time came. I think I will tomorrow, or will try anyway. I don't however plan to push too much too soon.
Do you have to special order bison?
No, I get it from a nearby restaurant that specializes in bison on their menu. They will usually sell it to me frozen. There is also a butcher shop in town that carries it. Bison is more expensive than beef, but it is also better for you, lower calorie, higher protein. I eat so much less than I did a couple of years ago that even eating Bison and some more expensive things I am spending less on food that I used to. Being able to afford better quality food is one of the benefits of eating less. It is particularly true for alcohol. Now that I average 2 or 3 drinks a month I can afford the best and still spend less than I did back when it was more than 2 or 3 drinks a day!
As long as you keep listening to your body's signals and build up slowly (going back to the previous level if an increase does make you feel weird) I think you'll be fine.
Thanks LaMa, and today my body said rest, so I did.
Glad you are feeling well and it's nice you got our for a bit of a walk . It's nice to move about a bit .
Thanks Petal, I did less moving today but I am pretty sure I'll walk tomorrow. In this first week I am taking it quite easy, but will do whatever walking I am comfortable with. I know its good for me.

Yeah Liza, you are right. I will go to great lengths to make sure I don't have to go back to the hospital or doctor for more treatment. I don't like it.
Lol, I can't believe you're not sick of peaches yet. :) Glad you're feeling better already.
Thanks Emily, even the slower day today was better than a couple of days ago, I am getting better. Not tired of peaches at all!

I think I could eat peaches every day the year round, if I could keep getting the fresh ripe ones anyway. You are right about ops taking a bit out of you, it di

Seems I did not post what I wrote last night.... Well there it is a day late. On to today.

It was a good day, I ate well, walked a slow walk for an hour, 2.8 km and it felt good. Also took the grandkids and fellow travelers "fishing", they caught 13 nice trout and we had them for dinner. All caught fish, except me. The fishing was in stocked ponds at a hatchery, but the kids had fun, the two youngest had never caught a fish, they were pretty excited. Made for a very fresh fish dinner, less than 2 hours from swimming to the table. It probably cost more than just buying trout, but was a whole lot more fun.

Your GK's look really sweet, Rob. I'm glad they like "fishing" & that you got out for a leisurely 2.8km walk.

Lovely grandkids and it sounds like you're good at making memories with them! 2.8 km is a good bit further than your previous walk, so I say the rest day was worth it.

Your grandkids look lovely and I agree with LaMa making memories are so important.
Continue to feel well and be a great grandpa

It was a good day, ate well and walked about 4 km in 1 hour and 20 minutes. Not a blistering pace, really more of a meander, but I am feeling good about it. And I feel good tonight. I have also had a bit more success moving the food earlier, evening snack to dinner anyway. Now I think I need to get brave and eat more breakfast and lunch, and less dinner and evening snack.

Thanks Cate, and today's walk got longer, still leisurely though.

I hope it makes a few memories, I still remember my first fish, and I was a lot younger than they are. I do think the rest day helped, tomorrow makes a week since surgery, maybe I can pick the pace up a little. I'll see how I feel.

Thanks Petal, and you are right memories are important.
What a lovely photograph. I'm sure they loved spending time with their grandpa today! Your food for the day looks good.
Thanks Emily, I am trying to make my meals a little more "normal", it seems to be a slow process.

It was a good day, I ate well, walked (slowly) for 4.3 km and I feel good tonight. Today I drove out to the bird refuge for the walk. You can see the visitor's center in the photo below, but they remain closed due to the virus. And nothing on my efforts to become a volunteer, I suspect that will have to wait until things with the virus get better.

Hey, 4 km is 30% or so more than 2.8 km no matter what your time!
Thanks LaMa, don't really know if my walk today was any further, walking app wasn't on yesterday, the 4 km was an estimate, today is more accurate. I did manage to get a little faster than yesterday's pace, but not much.
Eating normal food is good Rob . Seems like you are getting there indeed
Thanks Petal, and I am working on the transition, but I am a creature of habit, change is hard. I do feel like I am getting there, but not so sure about the indeed part.
Great job getting back on the move again, Rob! How close are you to 100% would you say?
Hard to say, I am not sure exactly what 100% will look like. Getting back to the gym and weight training will feel good, but that's probably at least 3 weeks away. I am going to try and figure out what I can do and step things up as it feels comfortable.

Being cautious is good. Keep progressing as you can, but stay cautious. True for recovery and the transition to maintenance.

The bird refuge looks so lovely and seems to be a safe place to walk. It's interesting how in America some things have closed due to covid like your refuge but people gather at huge rallies . It does not compute . Lol

Meandering walks are lovely. Enjoy the slower pace and all the observations that come with not rushing it...the bird refuge looks like the perfect area for a mindful walk-about.

The bird refuge does look like a lovely place to have leisurely walks. Rob, your body needs time to recover from an operation. Please be gentle & patient xo

It was a good day, I did not get a walk, I was feeling kind of drained so I decided not to push it. I did get out to see the annual sheep drive through town, they are moving from the summer pasture in the mountains to winter quarters.

I managed to eat more for my regular meals and less for the evening snack, so that was successful. The bad news is that I ate the last fresh peach! I have only missed eating fresh peaches 3 days since the first of August, a pretty good run. I will miss them, the last peach:

Thanks LaMa, good advice and I did take it today. Got my walking shoes on and was about to head out the door when I realized it might not be a good idea today. Will see what tomorrow brings. I don't feel bad, just kind of tired and drained.

Yes Petal the bird refuge is a good safe place, and only a 5 or 10 minute drive, I will be going back. Yeah I don't suppose a lot of the Covid things make sense, but I think ours probably make less sense than most.

Thanks Liza, and I do plan to keep the walks slow and easy for a while. Kind of enjoying taking my time, I am getting more pictures that way.

Thanks Cate, you are right and I am trying to keep it easy. I don't want things to go bad, and I know it will not take too long to heal. It can be frustrating sometimes though...
