Alligatorob's Diary

It was a good day, I ate well, exercised, and feel good tonight. Walked 13 km today and it felt good, not a big uphill thing, mostly relatively flat, but a nice walk. I did it in 1/3 the time that climbing the mountain took, and about the same distance. It has been cold, this morning there was fresh snow on the mountains and I passed a bit of snow on the walk. The top I walked to last Saturday probably had knee deep fresh snow. Down here it melted pretty quickly, but up high it will take a few days of warm. When I started my walk it was about 2 C, never got a lot warmer. A couple of pictures taken on the walk showing the fresh snow on the mountains.

Good to hear about the increase in calories Rob :)
Thanks Liza, I was over 1,300 again today, so far so good.
Having one rest day is probably a good thing, too. Back to the job tomorrow.
Thanks LaMa, you are probably right. I did not do any workout type exercises today, but I did take a longer walk, so I think I am back to it.

That sounds like a really nice walk--i love long walks like that--very nice for the mind and body.
Beautiful pictures with the snowy mountains :)

Catching up a bit here - what Petal said about the women in Slimming World reaching their goal and then feeling disappointed - that’s a very important observation.

I think getting your fitness levels built up to the point you can easily walk 13km is the triumph here. As you said, it really is the journey that’s the exciting part. Well done Rob.

Yesterday was a good day, I ate well, exercised and had fun. We did a bbq with the grandkids, and I got in a 10 km walk. Not much time this morning.

It was a good day, ate well, exercised, and I feel pretty good. I got in both a workout and a 10 km walk, and stayed above 1,300 calories.
13 km definitely counts as having been active that day
Thanks LaMa, have not been able to do 13 again, but had a couple of 10 k days. Walking takes a lot of time.
What a great day, Rob! 13 km walk & eating 1300 + cals.
Thanks Cate, eating a few more calories does not seem to make much difference in how I feel, but I know I need to be doing it.

Yes, it does feel good, thanks Liza.
Lovely pics Rob and a great days walking . Very motivational.
Thanks Petal. The fresh snow on the mountains makes for good pictures.

You are right Emily, it does feel good knowing I am more fit than I was. It is funny I still don't feel real fit, maybe few people ever do, there is always more to do.
Wow, where do you live? These mountains are amazing! Congratz on your journey, by the way
Utah, and we do have nice mountains. Thanks, the journey has been a good one.
That sounds just about a perfect day, Rob!
Thanks Amy, it was good, not perfect, but pretty good.

Yup, unlike with weightloss for fitness you can always keep setting new, more ambitious goals. Good thing eating more doesn´t make you feel so different: that means it´s not messing up your diet or your mindset.

It was a good day, ate well, exercised and other than being tired I feel pretty good tonight. I have noticed that I am feeling more tired in the evenings lately. Don't know that it means much though, I do still feel good. Did a 10 km walk this morning and weight training at the gym later. I am able to lift a lot more weight than I did when I started at the gym, knowing that makes me feel better. Though to be honest I don't feel a whole lot stronger.
I am fitter than I was 20 years ago but I too still feel unfit at times.
I am sure you are fitter than 20 years ago, you have put a lot of work into it Petal! And I am sure that I am.
Work in progress Rob
You are absolutely right, and I am beginning to realize that describes the whole maintenance process, not an end but a work in progress!

Right LaMa, another way of saying a work in progress!

I think most people would feel tired after a 10 km walk & strength training, Rob. You may not feel that much fitter, but I'm sure you are. Don't be afraid to have a lazy day xo

Have you been back at the gym a while now Rob? How is it feeling in there re Covid?
I agree with Cate about maybe taking it a little more easy at times. If you keep increasing your exercise whenever you increase your calories, you're really keeping the same deficit and not really easing into maintenance. I know you don't feel ready for maintenance quite yet,but slowly closing the gap would seem like a nice way to ease the transition. Just my opinion though.

Though to be honest I don't feel a whole lot stronger.
A lot of the early process is just getting better at the movement because your muscles know what to expect. Your muscles can´t really grow while in a caloric deficit.
This must be a scary time for you. The temptations of the world haven´t changed. Your weight is starting to look like you´re approaching maintenance. So what to do when you go out of weightloss-beast-mode and return to normal? Will you be able to resist temptations even if you have the calories to play with to have more than one bite of them? Moderation is hard, much harder than denying yourself stuff. And it doesn´t come with big, shiny rewards on the scale. But trust me, as someone who struggles mightily with maintenance, the struggle of being obese again would be so much more frustrating. You can do this, even if it´s not as straightforward (and easy to understand for outsiders) as "just" sticking to a calorie-reduced diet.

Down 2 lbs this morning, that's 140 lbs, 10 stone to date.

I am happy, even if as LaMa says I am about to run out of the "big, shiny rewards on the scale".

:party::party: By now you´ve lost an adult human being  Sounds kind of careless, now that I come to think of it...
