Alligatorob's Diary

Thanks Petal, I am sure the frozen will be good. I had frozen cherries today, almost as good as fresh. Hey Amy, Lady Godiva wouldn't be a bad ancestor. Thanks for noticing the broccoli, I like it and it helps fill me up without many calories. Rob thanks for asking, my seat is feeling better. I got a pad for the seat that helps. LaMa, I am sure you are right about Theodora the Senatrix, slandering women leaders is still popular today.

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good. My calories have been down the last couple of days, but it doesn't feel like it. I was surprised when I added the calories up at day's end, I even had an apple to bring the count up a little. I will probably try to bring them up a little tommorrow. My wife went foraging in the field next door and found at least a bushel of kabocha squash in need of rescue, so we have added to our hoard. A friend also gave us some beets from his garden, guess we will try to roast them. The farmer told us he has picked all the pumpkins he can sell and to help ourselves to what we want. There are at least 200 nice pumpkins out there, but we only use them for decoration.

The Shroud of Saint Josse was made in, or before 961. It is a rare surviving Persian silk cloth and is in the Louvre today. It has an interesting history, woven as a camel cloth for Abu Mansur Bakhtegin, the Camel Prince. We know it was made sometime before 961, the year the Camel Prince was beheaded. It was booty from the first crusades and it made its way to France where it was used to wrap Saint Josse's bones when he was reinterred in 1134. Then some time around the French Revolution it was rediscovered and transferred to the Louvre. Saint Josse was long dead before the shroud was even made, he lived from 600 to 668, and was famous for renouncing his wealth, becoming a priest, and living alone in the woods.

The irony of wrapping the remains of someone who´s renounced earthly wealth in a shroud that would´ve bought food for half a village for a year at the time... I love the word senatrix, by the way, can we revive that?

If St Josse was looking down on things I am pretty sure he would have been unhappy. I was going to say rolling over in his grave, but in this instance it didn't work.

Like Senatrix Elizabeth Warren? It is a good word.

And once again your historical snippet has sent me off on a fascinating tour round the alleyways and bypaths of the internet! Specifically, to try to chase the history of Abu Mansur - there's so much I don't know! :) It's a lot of fun finding out - thanks!
About the pumpkins - would there be any food bank which might be glad of a few? Or is it too far off the usual eating menu in your region for that? I know how much views of what's "normal" food can vary from region to region. As for broccoli I think I'll have it again myself, today. :)

It was a good day, very busy, I did not get a bike ride in, will try to tomorrow. I am sure my yard work burned more calories than the bike.

Amy, around here 90+% of pumpkins are decorative. People eat pumpkin pie, other than that you see pumpkin soup and a few pumpkin dishes here and there, but not much. The farmer says the market is flooded with pumpkins right now, he sold a few, but can't sell most of them. I agree with you this kind of game has taught me a lot, mostly how little I know.

Rob that sure is very little calories but you eat well for it. I love broccoli we have a lot here.

Oops sorry Rob I started that reply yesterday I must have got distracted and not come back to it. I was going to add would you make pumpkin soup.
I see a big pumpkin here is 5 euro . I won't buy any unless daughter wants to carve one.

Flyer, I think it has 12. So far I have only used the lowest gears, I am not going very fast and on my laps its all uphill where I need the low gears, or downhill where I mostly brake.....
i worked with a guy who used to do some criterium bike racing and he had a good answer when i asked him one day if he used all the gears available. he said that he tries to keep up the same cadence whether training or during a race. if he can't keep up, he downshifts... if he is peddling too fast, he cranks up the gears. when i used to be able to do some small bi- and triathlons that method always worked for me. even though most of the terrain i have lived by has been relatively flat up and down the coast, the wind makes a big difference some days.

15 laps, a new high. It was good, but I can feel it in my legs now. I am gaining confidence in my steepish gravel riding, that is good.

It was a cold clear morning, still some ice in the shade but sunny and dry without wind. Temperature was just below freezing. It felt good.

Our trees have been taken by surprise by the early winter weather, most leaves are still green. Probably not for much longer, up close they look pretty withered.

The riding is helping me, stairs are getting easier to climb and my knees are feeling better. Not Charles Atlas yet, but I'm working on it.

Flyer, I will try more of the gears when I get to some level ground. My ride is all up or down hill now, I need the low gears to climb, and I just brake on the downhill keeping my speed down on the lose gravel. Not me who'll be plowing them under! He plowed even more under last year, including a bunch of white ones.

Rob so happy to hear you did 15 laps . Well done to you . How great that your knees are feeling better and you are finding it easier to go upstairs . You must be very happy in yourself x

Thanks Cate and Petal, it does feel good.

Somebody called Olga intreprets Angel Number:

"The feeling Olga gets from Angel Number 1044 is infuriated, disillusioned, and horrified. Olga suggests that you may be able to find out what the angel is trying to communicate to you with Angel Number 1044 if you relate its meaning to the word or words you found above."

Probably a number best avoided.

Sounds like your legs are happy about their new hobby! About Olga: there may be 1044 pumpkins left on that field...

Rob I am watching a programme on America at the moment . I saw the Mormon trail in Utah , have seen a small town in Colarado where they sell cannabis and people come from all over . It has lovely prairie reserves and I saw the Indian reservations . They are discussing also how the prison system works and how people can get in trouble for small problems such as a broken light on a truck. It reminded me a bit about I think your stepson ? Did he get sorted out after his little skirmish with the law . I hope so .
You live in a most beautiful country . Very scenic .
