Alligatorob's Diary

Your breakfast is starting to look like a real meal! My dad always ate breakfast with us because my mom insisted that it was important but since we're out of the house he's stopped and he finds it easier to keep his weight that way. He usually has a piece of fruit mid-morning, but that's it. Find what works for you and stick with it. These days you can skip breakfast altogether and call it intermittent fasting if you like.

Hmmm never heard of Fritos before but then I don’t really like corn chips. I’m a sucker for smiths cheese and onion crinkle cut though!

I wouldn’t be in a huge rush to change what you’re doing re breakfast. It’s what works for you that matters not what others think may work for you.

298 this morning! Down 2 lbs from last week and through that 300 barrier, I'm happy.

Though it has me thinking about how far I still have to go. At a rate of 1 to 2 lbs per week it will take almost 2 years. But I suppose those years will be better spent than if I don't keep this up. And I have to remember my real goal is just to eat well today.

Congratulations! I think you're already rushing along at an astonishing pace. Look at what you've accomplished, not too much at what's ahead.

Good for you, Rob. As LaMa said, just keep doing what you're doing & look at the now. You are going great!

Great news! :hurray: (But I went looking for you in your new clubrooms, and there you weren't!)

I really know the feeling of thinking "oh, still so far to go!" and calculating the rate of loss and thinking how long the journey will be, but absolutely yes! to your reply to yourself. And this right now - the taking control, the joy of taking those steps away from ill-health and unhappiness - is a fun part, too. :)

(By the way - loved your engineer's-definition of sublimation - I'll remember that!)

It was a good day, and I believe I feel a bit lighter on my feet now that I'm under 300 lbs.

I am not making my 1,600 to 1,800 cal/day goal, in part as a result of giving up nightcaps and the alcohol calories. The lower calories don't feel bad so far, no great hunger pangs or feelings of weakness, so I will try it for a while.

Cate suggested doing a "dry July"; I got an early start. It won't be completely dry, my plan is to give up nightcaps for a while anyway, but I do still plan to have a social drink now and then.

1311 was the year Arnaldus de Villa Nova, the famous physician and alchemist died. He was the first doctor to report using alcohol as an antiseptic. At that time alchemy was a respectable science that eventually became modern chemistry. Modern alchemy is something else. He was summoned by Pope Clement V to be condemned, a fate all to common for scientists of that era. His ship sank on the way to see the Pope and he drowned. His writings were censured.

I had never heard of Arnaldus de Villa Nova, how cool! Well the antseptic part, not the pope problems and drowning...

What rotten luck, to be drowned on your way to defend yourself! I'm glad his writings, though censured, survived enough that he still gets the credit for his practice.

More's the pity - about the revolt, not the calories!

I am very much enjoying your calorie-led tour of medieval history. :)

Another good day, I ate well and feel good. When I added the calories up I was surprised, just a little over 1,000. I feel full and didn't deprive myself, so I guess it is ok. I am sure my count will go up tommorrow.

In 1041 Byzantine Emperor Michael IV and was succeeded by his wife, Empress Zoe. Zoe managed to serve as Empress alongside 3 husbands, her adopted son and her sister.

All hail Empress Zoe! I need to learn more about her, she must have been a fascinating person.

If you were set to be done with your weightloss journey in a month or so you might be right. As it is maybe you should try logging your food in a nutrition app like Cronometer for a week or so to see if you're missing out on important nutrients. It's hard to get enough of everything on these low calories and while a 50 kg girl may get away with only hitting 85% of everything your body needs those vitamins, minerals, trace elements, healthy fats, and amino acids.

Ok, I signed up for Chronometer and gave it a try. I put yesterday's food in, the calorie count came out about the same but I got a whole lot of information I am not sure what to do with. For example:

Macronutrient Targets, I was at 54% on energy, 48% on protein, 28% on carbs, and 48% on fat. Is this good or bad, I assume I have to be under on these to lose weight.

Carbs, I am 56% on fiber

Lipids, I am over in all categories except Omega-6 where I am at 45%

Vitamins and minerals I am under on most, but I take a multivitamin that should put me over. Do I need to worry about this?

This is interesting, I had no idea such a calculator existed, showing my age I guess.

You have to be under on energy, but in order to be healthy long-term you still ought to try and make your protein, fat, mineral, trace element, fiber, and vitamin levels. Which isn´t easy on calories as low as yours. It´s ok to be a little under today on some things if you´re over another day but it should generally even out. Going over water-soluble vitamins is not a problem as long as your kidneys are healthy and you drink enough because you just pee them out. Fat-soluble vitamins are more likely to cause problems if eaten in extreme amounts but there´s supposed to be a decent safety buffer between the recommended daily amounts and toxic amounts.

PS: You can add your vitamin supplement into the app as well.

i'm always curious when it comes to fruit... so checking...

Type: cherries, red
Quantity: 1 cup, without pits

...does anyone else see the humor in this?
It´s definitely a weird thing to say when you´re talking about cups, but I usually use weight instead of volume and I sometimes wonder if I should use the full weight or weigh pips/shells/bones afterwards and deduct them from the original weight because it often doesn´t say. So maybe the calculator you use has the possibility of switching between weight and volume?
