Alligatorob's Diary

It was a business trip TM, I am trying to retire so my business trips are getting fewer, but still have a few to do.

Yesterday was a travel day, but I made out ok. Breakfast and Lunch were fine, but I did not really get any dinner. Had to hurry thought the airport, I got what I could on the plane, a banana and a small package of cheese-its. Not a great meal, but it staved off starvation.

In 1167 Yesugei Baghatur, Genghis Khan's father died. Yesugei was 37, but had already risen to the level of a major chief. It seems he was poisoned by Tatars at a wedding dinner.

That’s great (retiring). I’ve recently changed roles so I’m not travelling at all any more. I used to be on the road every day with regional travel twice a week and interstate travel every two months. It made regular exercise and eating well difficult. So glad to be away from that now!

You did very well, Rob to cope with your trip. Do you like jerky? I always have some with me when I travel & it's a great standby. I know it's a long way to post it, but this is what I buy- http://territoryjerky.com.au/ The original is my favourite. That reminds me to order some. I buy 5 packs & get one free & lasts me for ages & ages. Duly ordered :) I'm sure you would have an equivalent over there, but I love this one.

Thanks Cate, jerky is a good idea, I have used jerky in diets before, and I do like jerky. I checked out your Territory Jerky, it looks good but they don't ship to the US, so I ordered a local brand. I will give that a try.

It was a good day, recovered from my trip and back on track.

Another good day, I ate well and feel good. I am falling a little below goal on calories, sometimes I find it hard to eat more just to eat without feeling like I want a whole lot more. I am not actually hungry very often, and I don't feel weak, but I know I should probably up my calories a little. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

The first recorded arrival of Gypsies or the Romani people in Europe was in 1150. I have to admit most all I know about Gypsies comes from old movies and Cher's song "Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves". I am sure the truth is very different. Apparently Cher could not even get the spelling right, in her original record its misspelled "Gypsys".

One thing I do know is that "Gypsies" is considered a slur by many Romani.

If you keep an eye on eating enough fruit, veggies, healthy fats, and protein and don´t obsess or go hungry I guess what works for you works for you.

Rob, You're doing great. Keep it up!

I see you eat sardines. I did once. I had a bad experience with them as a child when I was over at a friend's house. I'd like to try again though. I hear they have a lot of nutritional value. Do you have any tips on selecting some and how to eat? I'm not sure I could eat them by themselves.

The city of Aachen, Germany began adding AD (for Anno Domini) to its coins in 1372. The first known such use, but the dating system was started a thousand years earlier.

Rob,

Please tell me you get your calorie count and then GOOGLE what happened in that year. You don’t have all that knowledge just sitting around in your head do you?

Either way great work. Don’t stop the history lessons!

Don't beat yourself up over a little indulgence. You seem to be doing really well otherwise. There's nothing wrong with being good to yourself.

Of course, my head never had a lot of facts in it, and as I get older there are fewer and fewer residing there. I always kind of liked history and find it kind of fun to look the years up searching for trivia. Problem is most of what you find has to do with obscure wars or battles, which I don't find terribly interesting. Finding something that is on a specific date can be harder.

Happy Bastille Day y'all!

This is one I do remember, it was also my stepfather's birthday, and he was a really good man. For me remembering this is more out of respect to him than France. But I do like France, and wish all Frenchmen and Frenchwomen well!

Yes we have also planted other kinds of squash, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, green beans, and cucumbers. Also a few onions planted between things. Not a lot of anything, we grow it all in 5 big ~300 gallon cattle watering troughs filled with good top soil. The first tomatoes look like they should start being ready to pick in a week or so, all else is a bit behind that. We also have 2 old apple trees that produce a lot more apples than we can eat, and 2 young pear trees and a cheery trees, this year we may get a few pears and a very few cherries, but by next year we should be getting good crops. We also have a small peach farm, 108 trees total, it is managed and harvested by a contract farmer, but we get all the peaches we can eat. Yes I like growing some of my own food, it probably costs more than store bought but you feel so good about it. My wife would like to get chickens, but so far I have been able to talk her out of it, maybe we'll plant a couple more fruit trees instead.

That's awesome! I wish we had a bit of space for a garden... It might be possible, but we have some work to do in our very tiny yard to make that happen! I think as far as hobbies go, if you enjoy gardening and get some delicious produce out of it, the extra cost is probably worth it if you can afford it. There are much less practical (and far more expensive) hobbies out there! I only have space for a few pots and just grow a few carrots, lettuce, & herbs, but I love it! It's also a small enough amount that I can generally do most of the watering from a rain barrel. Though we do go long stretches without rain, so that doesn't always work! My sister in-law had chickens for a few years... my son was an expert chicken-catcher by the time he was 4! Lol. And the fresh eggs were great!
