Alligatorob's Diary

Better to overeat on fruit than on chocolate, that´s for sure. This may well be a one-off but if it starts happening more regularly you may want to up your daily calories.

if you don't mind a comment only looking at the last page, your diet seems way too heavy with fruit/ sugar. even though it comes with fiber, there is no getting over the insulin rush it will initially give followed by a crash that will trigger your hunger. an avocado or an egg white omelet would be a much better breakfast than only fruit. get more good fat calories into your diet while maybe avoiding the higher cholesterol sources if that's a concern.

have you ever seen this graph? ...

insulin reaction to macro nutrients.jpg

this is basically what low carb (Keto, etc) diets are all about ... keeping that insulin reaction as low as possible giving your body a fighting chance to get at your fat stores to burn calories. maintaining a high insulin level, that'll never happen.

It was a better day, but I did eat a lot of veggie stir fry for dinner, almost 2 cups. The cravings were not so bad today. Skipped alcohol altogether, except for what may have been in the soy sauce.

Thanks LaMa, your advice is always welcome. I can tell you the food craving when I am not hungry is not a one-off thing, I think it is basic to my nature. Bingeing on fruit and veggies is less common, but I have done it in the past. In my years of overeating I have binged on pretty much anything that can go in my mouth, including ice... My calories were up a bit today, perhaps that helped me some, but I can tell you I have felt that craving even when full.

A food craving for me has very little to do with hunger either. I listen to what my body tells me usually. Overeating/binging on fruit or vegetables has to be preferable to anything else. I love a veggie stir-fry! Your place looks lovely :)

your brain is actually a devious food enabler... those hunger feelings if your gut... the noises you hear emanating from... that's no physiological reaction to an empty stomach... that's your brain doing that. is it starving? ...no. it knows what works. you have to learn not to listen. like most other things, if you ignore it often enough, it will eventually go away. pander to its attention getting antics and you'll never win.

What do you think your body/brain really wants in those moments?
What it is telling me is to eat, not only to eat but that eating just one thing won't be bad, that I should go ahead and indulge. Then I know it will keep telling me that until the binge is complete, a few hours later it will tell me the same thing again.

As I have said I suspect this is an instinct that would have been beneficial to a caveman. But that's just my theory, I don't really know anything other than that it is there.

Oh, just noticed the snow is on the mountain to the right.

For me is the same.. I know if I cross the line wirh one food, it's game over. I cannot come back. Ill just eat and eat until sick. My way of dealing with it was not letting it my happen in the first place.

I remember one weird thing I used to do; I like feeling satiated, So, every once and the then i would schedule a healthy binge to prevent the bad one from happening first. For me it was meats, lots of onions on a pan (not sure how you call that preparation, my English is poor) and huge salads. Once I had that feeling of being full, I would not have a bad binge with shitty foods

Thanks Flyer, I will do my best to ignore it and hope it eventually goes away. Even if it doesn't maybe it will get easier to ignore.

Today was a good day, on track, not a lot of food cravings, and no nightcap. Not quite sure how to handle alcohol yet, I don't plan to give it up completely, but making it more of an occasional thing is what I will try for a while.

I know that feeling and it sucks. For me it only seems to be a persistent thing when I reach the lower end of what my body wants to weigh and it´s really tough to deal with. I hope your brain will catch up on the fact that weighing less is actually quite pleasant so it´ll give you a break.

Could be more than half the calories, even, as breading tends to be satiated with oil. As much as I love breaded everything: removing that golden layer is usually a good idea.

It was a good day, I felt that craving a little around lunch, but it didn't last. Calories came in lower than I thought they would, but I think they are right.

Hi Rob,

Firstly what are fritos? And I notice the majority of your calories are in the evening. Have you ever tried having the majority in the morning? I never ate breakfast at all but now I have a big bowl of porridge every morning which Is probably more calories than any other meal. It feels good and keeps ME going. I know everyone’s different and I’m certainly not suggesting you should change what is working for you. I’m just wondering if you’d ever tried it and what happened for you.

Yes, I tend to consume half or more of my calories for dinner or after. I usually eat dinner relatively early, between 5 and 6 pm, if that makes a difference. I have always done it this way, I am never very hungry at breakfast, but get hungrier as the day goes on. I have probably started thousands of diets in the morning and done fine until afternoon, then tried again the next day and so on. In the past I have tried eating more for breakfast, it only seemed to make me want to eat even more later in the day, but its been a while. I may give it a try, I know you are right. Before going on my current diet I probably ate less breakfast than I do now.

Fritos are the original junk food, I think they were the first corn chip on the market. You must have them in Australia. I have a bunch of 160 calorie packages of them, bought them for the grandkids. They make a quick and easy snack of known caloric value, but maybe not the best choice.

Waiting eagerly for your weigh-in today, Rob! i.e waiting to hear the sounds of the door of the 250-300 club shattering into fragments as you smash that barrier!

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good. I did try, with limited success, to eat more of my calories earlier in the day. Will keep trying. And being called out on the fritos kept me from eating more today. No alcohol for 3 days now.
