Alligatorob's Diary

i dont know whats wrong with me. i am not able to loose my weight. i can hardly loose 4kg each time i try to do.
It would be helpful for us to know more about your efforts up until now. What happens at the 4 kg mark? Is that the point where you're fed up and stop your plan? Do you stick with your plan (what kind of plans have you tried?) but the weightloss stops? Is your bmi on the low side already or do you have a lot of weight to lose?

Hi Rob,

Sorry you're feeling a little down. I know what you mean by sometimes just wanting to feel 'normal.' I don't get that with food as much but certainly get that with my anxiety disorder. It can be frustrating at times to see how restricting it can be...But i always think each person has their share of their own struggles and that being 'normal' is actually having something to struggle with.
You have been doing wonderfully in keeping on track. Hopefully over time it will feel less of a burden.

I think I am probably resigned to either counting calories, or somehow closely tracking my eating for the rest of my days. Either that or regain the weight.

When I started I figured I would have to count calories the rest of my days, but reading your journal post surgery has shown me there is another viable option: that is setting a modest weight limit that will trigger more intervention.

So I can see you deciding to try to eat intuitively and reverting back to calorie counting only if you exceed 165 lbs with the goal of resuming intuitive eating once below 160. That way you only have to track weight on a day to day basis. It might be a bit like a yo-yo diet except your stretches of intuitive eating should get longer and longer as you learn what works best for you.

My lethargy streak continues, but it will be back to the gym tomorrow. I did eat well and am feeling better than yesterday.
Are there any things you avoided doing because of your weight which you'd bemore capable of doing now?
Yes, and I have been doing a lot of them, but I am sure I can find something more. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey Michael welcome to the forum! You should consider starting your own diary where you can tell us more about yourself and your goals. You will get more attention and support that way. Best of luck to you!

Thanks Liza, had not thought about it, but I suppose it is my own version of the anxiety thing. And I doubt many people feel like they are normal, I am sure we all feel like we fall short at times anyway.

Thanks Err, and you are right, the frequent weighing thing is a big help. Perhaps over time it can replace the calorie counting, or at least lessen the need.

Saw your turkey picture, are you a turkey hunter? I have never been much of a bird hunter, but when I was younger I did a fair amount of deer hunting and some elk and antelope, more recently I hunted alligator, in Florida before moving to Utah. I recently spoke to my doctor and he wrote me a release, due to my rotator cuff shoulder problem I can now hunt with a crossbow in archery season. So I am thinking about trying it next year, I used to use a crossbow for gator, and still have it.

I'm more of a hiker lugging around a rifle than a hunter. I have tags for buck, boar, and bear, but didn't see anything in my range this year and probably won't go out again this season. Inevitably the bounty of animals I normally see vanish in season, which is why I found it so strange to see a flock of turkeys coming up to me on opening day (I suspect someone has been feeding them).

It was a good day, ate well, exercised and I feel good tonight! Broke my lethargy streak with a trip to the gym and it felt good. Did an hour and 40 minutes. It felt safe, very few people there. A number of gym members have now gotten the virus, but no evidence it is spreading at the gym. Its everywhere here now...

Ha! I understand the hiker lugging a gun thing, I have done plenty of that!.

Alligator is a tough white meat without much good flavor. Younger, smaller, gator tail and jowl meat isn't too bad, older big gator and meat from other parts isn't very good. The flavor is a kind of spoiled fish... I always got most of it made into sausage, blending with some pork sausage helped. The more pork and less gator the better! You don't hunt gator for the meat, its the hide that's valuable, used to be a good 8 ft gator hide would sell for $500 to $1,000, the meat from the same gator was worth about $50. Gators are regulated as trapped animals, not sporting game, so selling the parts is legal. I always ate anything I killed.

Keep safe and away from the virus Rob . It does seem to be everywhere in usa at moment
Thanks Petal, it is here anyway. I am doing my best, and trying to figure out the best protection strategy that allows me to do 3 days a week at the gym. For now anyway.
That's a worry. It seems it is rife there. Please be extra careful, Rob.
Yep, everywhere, I guess its what comes of our public policies, or lack thereof. Kind of interesting I donated blood a couple of weeks ago and just got back my covid antibody testing from them. Did not realize they were doing it, I guess that tells you if you have ever had it. Turns out they are looking for people who have and are recovered, that's the blood they most want. Mine was negative.

It was a good day, I ate well, excised at the gym, and feel good tonight.

I went to a physical therapist today, my first time ever. It is to treat my shoulder, apparently I have rotator cuff damage and possibly some damage of my bicep tendon. All on my left side, and being right handed it is less a problem than it could be. First he did a pretty though exam, asking me to do a lot of different things with my shoulder and tell him what hurt and where. Then I got some electrostimulation, then acoustical stimulation, and then did some low impact exercises designed to strengthen the muscles. It felt like something that could help, so I made a couple of follow up appointments, so we'll see.

My wife found out that a work colleague of hers tested positive for the virus. She was in his office talking with him on Monday and he got sick the next day, by Wednesday he had a positive test. She did say that when she was with him they were both wearing masks and remained a safe distance apart, hopefully that will have been enough. The guy is also a friend, he has been over to the house and I know him. This is the closest it has come to me. I was shocked to find that he has not been either asked for contacts or quarantined by our health department. He is self quarantining, but apparently it is not required, he could go out to dinner at a restaurant tonight and not wear a mask while at the table... He was told that they had given up on contact tracing, too many people have it for the tracing to be practical anymore... So we have upped our precautions, hope its enough.

I guess that means that so far your precautions have worked. Sounds like a good thing :)
I suppose, but the way things are developing here I am not sure how long it will last.

Nobody knows, but worrying too much is bad for the immune system as well. As long as your wife's colleague aired his office properly/regularly she's very likely fine if she wore a mask and kept some distance. It sucks but we have to accept the uncertainty at this point.

Tbh I imagine here many people have it and don't bother getting tested if it's just like a cold . Look at all who have no symptoms and have it . If someone tests positive here the people they live with have to quarantine for I think 14 days .
So no one wants a positive test for work , childcare etc reasons
Just look after yourself Rob it's all you can do .

Glad physio seemed helpful. I found it great for my Achilles .

Good news on the physical therapy - you might be bowhunting before you know it...

Hoping the best for her & you. I would be cautiously optimistic if both were wearing masks (over mouth and nose) and the duration of contact was brief. Earlier in the pandemic, 2 (masked) hair stylists in Missouri were covid positive and none of their 140 clients became infected...

It was a good day, I ate well, got a little exercise and feel pretty good tonight. I was back out to the Bird Refuge today, checking more swans.

Thanks LaMa, and you are right with the masks and distancing we are probably ok. I suspect we encounter people with the virus everyday now...

Thanks Petal, that helps to know. I am optimistic.

That is interesting and encouraging. Masks do seem to be important. I have gotten a lot better about wearing one, and I wash them quite frequently now, at least once a day and some days more often. I bought a bunch of the reusable ones and just throw them in the wash.

I have enough cloth masks now to wear only the most comfortable ones and still have plenty even when it's getting close to laundry time. Very convenient.

I don't know about alligator, but crocodile is tasty.

Stay safe, I do feel concern for those in countries with bad covid outbreaks, but it is hard to comprehend the scale of it due to living in a location almost untouched by the virus.

Today was a good day, I ate well, exercised and feel good tonight. The exercise was pretty light, just what my physical therapist prescribed for my shoulder, but it was exercise. Back to the gym tomorrow.

Yes, I have a good stock of reusable masks as well. I think frequent changes and washing is as important as wearing them.

You are fortunate, and an example of what could have been done here. Maybe its too late though, things will probably change under Biden, but undoing the spread will be hard. We will probably just have to wait for the shots...

Just as important but for different reasons. Here they say you can wear them for 4 hours straight or until they get damp, whichever comes first. Reuse without washing too much and you'll be breathing in a bacterial cocktail that might harm you as much as Covid.

Today was a good day, I ate well, exercised and feel good tonight. Had a good day at the gym, and I did my PT exercises (but not 3 times as my log says, had problems with it tonight). I was down to a new low, 153 lbs this morning, will keep an eye on it, I don't want to be losing much more weight, in fact no more would be best.

Hadn't thought of that, I was more worried about any Covid the mask filtered out accumulating... Oh well, a clean mask is good for more than one reason.
