Alligatorob's Diary

[QUOTE="alligatorob, post: 1165955, member: 145927"...., I have done the Lake Powell Houseboat thing before, but its been 10 years so I am really looking forward to it. And yes, it is very relaxing. ...[/QUOTE]

ok... never think about using the search. Lake Powell... being out of touch is relaxing. unless things have changed, you need a satellite phone to connect to anywhere else in the world. anxious to hear about the water level...? one thing i miss about flying... for me Lake Powell is a 15 hour drive or a 2½ hour flight ... with the time change, wall time, it only took 90 minutes to get home.

I'm back and did not do too bad, weighed 156 this morning, up 2 pounds. It might be a gain, but it could just be normal bouncing, I'll keep my eye on it. I did not "diet" whilst away, I pretty much ate what others ate trying to keep portions moderate and choices reasonable. I did not count calories and had no protein dust. I tried to estimate my calories from yesterday and was surprised they were as low as they were.

I did no formal exercise, but I swam everyday, at least a little, and hiked or kayaked many days as well. So I got some exercise but nothing long or strenuous.

It will be really interesting for most of us to hear about you normalising your diet. I don't think that has to mean eating badly if that's what your company do, but not counting calories & maybe just doing a WAG will be a part of that. Enjoy your company, Rob.
Thanks Cate, and I did enjoy all of it. I only tried to WAG yesterday's calories but I did think about calories as the week went on, think I did ok. Ate more than I have been eating, but not hugely more.
You could offer peach retreats, much more profitable than just selling the idea!
Peach retreats, sounds like a good idea! But to have tree ripened they would be short and seasonal. We still have a few, but have picked the last off of the trees. Ate one last night and plan to have one for breakfast this morning.
Have fun on your vacation!!!
Thanks Vic, I did, it was a great time.
Peach retreats sounds good Lama . Have fun Rob
Thanks Petal!
And you're off on your trip! Have a great time, amigo! :)
Gracias mi amiga
Hey Rob - a houseboat vacation sounds absolutely cool. Enjoy!
It really is, like camping out but with more amenities and comforts. And you can take lots of stuff.

It was Lake Powell, we went out of Bullfrog Marina, about a 6 hour drive from here. Pulled my boat down and used it a lot for mobility. The south end of the lake is in Arizona, same time as you right now, the upper end where we were is Mountain time. The dam is about 600 feet high, lake level was down about 100 ft from peak but still high enough to get around well. The depth finder on my boat read about 350 ft in mid channel, we were about 70 to 100 river miles upstream of the dam.

Thanks all!IMG_4746.jpeg

thanks for posting the pics... seems about the same as last trip i made out there. unfortunately the guy i knew with a houseboat sold it some time ago. wish some of the recent hurricanes had traveled a lot farther west... i wonder if the lake will ever see the levels it once had ...

lake powell water level by year.jpg

last time i was there was about 10 years ago so i guess i missed the little increase around 2011-2012. some of the branches have probably been dry for a few decades now.

A getting back to normal day. I ate well and feel good tonight. Only exercise was mowing the lawn and cleaning/putting things away but tomorrow morning I plan to be back to the gym. My shoulder is better but still bothers me, so will stick with mostly legs and lower body things this week. I am headed to Louisiana for a tuna fishing trip Saturday, and need my shoulder feeling as good as possible.
Glorious pictures!
Thanks LaMa, will try to post a few more.
Great pics, Rob & sounds like you had a lovely time.
Thanks Cate, I did have a great time, sorry it had to end.
when i swam there i always tried to put the depth of that lake out of my mind ... it hardly ever worked... !
It never really occurred to me, once the water is over my head it all seems the same. Thanks for the water level info, that was interesting. The lake was at 3598 when we arrived and 3597 when we left, so a bit lower than on your chart. I don't know when or if it will get back to what it was a few years ago. However it was still good boating, and there is a lot of lake there.

Lovely pictures Rob. Sounds like a really nice little holiday and sounds like you hit a great balance of enjoying the food and keeping the amounts to reasonable portions. I hope your shoulder starts to feel better soon.

Rob fab pictures and thanks for sharing . It's great you managed without the protein powder . And off again on another trip have fun.

I hope you are not anxious about the little gain. From what I recall the drop to 154 was a bonus you did not anticipate and you therefore had leeway. You are at maintenance now so you will bounce about .
Have fun

My weight is up again this morning, 158 lbs 4 above where it was before the vacation. I know the best thing to do is to stay the course and not let it worry me, but that is easier said than done. I know I am not eating too much, or at least I think I am not. I did well yesterday, stayed on track with calories and did a little more than 2 hours in the gym. Still eating a lot of peaches, when we got back from the trip found a few more on a couple of trees, but this is the end, no more to pick. I leave on part 2 of my vacation tomorrow morning, a Louisiana fishing trip.
I see you lowered your calories a bit again, or is that a fluke?
My calories were back up yesterday, I knew I was under on Wednesday. I had some strong cravings on Wednesday and in reaction cut back, by the end of the day I had more calories to make up than felt comfortable eating, so a fluke I guess.

Thanks Liza, it was nice. I am pretty sure I ate fine, but the weight gain since has me confused...

I wish I could say that I am not anxious, but for now I am going to just try and stay the course and not cut calories. If I get to 160 I may rethink that, as you say at 154 I did have some leeway. We'll see what happens...

Your body is probably just reeling from the "weird new" food. It´s been used to a rather limited range of foods for the past year and a half. Give it a week and you´ll see you don´t suddenly gain weight on the calories you were previously losing at.

Enjoy your tuna fishing, Rob. I love fresh tuna steaks :)
When you get back, have a "clean" week, just eating your usual stuff & see what happens. You'll be playing with your calories for a while to get it right, but you'll work out where maintenance lies for you, I'm sure.

Yesterday was a good day, I ate well and feel good this morning. No real exercise, just getting ready to go to Louisiana. This morning I was down to 155 lbs, so I guess the 158 was just a bounce. I head to the airport in a little while, I may not be able to post again until my return Wednesday. Eating on this trip will be a bit unpredictable, but I plan to try my best.

You are probably right LaMa, and my weight is down this morning.
Yes and don’t forget you are in maintenance now and a few lbs either side will be normal
Good advice Petal, I am thinking that if I can stay in the 150s that may be a good enough target.

Thanks Cate, I like the idea of a "clean" week. I like tuna as well but have never caught one myself. Hope I am lucky enough to change that.

I am back, I did not eat as well as I probably should have, but am still in the 150s. On the boat only ate when I could and only snacks, but too many I think. We were out for about 24 hours, went about 100 miles from the marina in relatively rough seas. The weather was not good, lots of rough water and some rain to fight, as well as the fish. I did find out that I can sleep on a rolling boat deck in the rain and salt spray, kind of surprised me. After getting back in I ate out twice, a dinner of fresh red snapper with what I am sure was a high calorie sauce and a final lunch of crawfish etouffee and a side of red beans and rice. First time I have eaten whole restaurant meals in over a year. Also had a muffuletta for breakfast yesterday. May try to add up the calories, but more than I usually eat for sure.

Now to start on what Cate called a "clean" week.

Thanks all, I did have a good time and caught a lot of fish. Plenty of Tuna in the freezer now. Note the bite a shark took out of the one I am holding, lost a couple to the sharks, it was amazing we got that one. Caught some barracuda, sharks, and a variety of smaller things, but only kept the tuna. Fished the oil rigs off the Mississippi delta in deep water 3,000 to 6,000 ft (1,000 to 2,000 m). My first time out that far, in Louisiana anyway.
