Airplane seat width - panic setting in...

Hi :)

I dont know if im being completely paranoid ( iam prone to the dramatic!) but i just checked the airline that i am flying with for some general info and i found that the seat width on the flight is between 16.5in and 18in....oh dear god...

I measured my ass when i sit down on the floor and i marked it pretty accurately. No matter which way i spin it I am 19.2in. This is not good im too big to fit into the seat. what the hell do i do? I cant afford to buy another seat (and i think i would rather not go than have to face doing that), but i certainly dont want to be spilling onto someone elses seat. I dont even know if it will be my hubby that im sitting beside as they dont guarantee seats together. I honestly feel like crying...i worked pretty hard to reduce the size of this ass and its still too big...

I do have underwear that sucks everything in - spanx pants to be precise - and i think i could wear those but is that dangerous on a flight? Im pretty sure it would be ok (maybe a bit uncomfortable buy hey ho) but if i end up in one of those 16.5 chairs then i am truly screwed cos they wont take 3in off me...maybe one at a push.

Has anyone experienced this? What do i do? Oh mygod i am totally freaking out now. HELP!!!

Depending on what airline you fly, you can reserve your seats 24 hours before your flight. That way you are also checked in for your flight and can go straight to the gate. Then you can sit next to hubby who wont mind being in close proximity of your behind.:blush5:
Most of the seats are like theatre seating with the pull down arms but it is a bench seat underneath, so once you are past the arms you are good to go.

If you're flying Southwest, they will more than likely charge you for an additional seat if you cannot sit in the seat and buckle the belt around you - other airlines are more forgiving depending on how booked the flight is.

The seatbelt will probably be your biggest problem - ask for an extender when you board the plane.. it will give you a few inches of comfort on the seat...

I flew well over 1,000,000 miles when I was at my heaviest weight and granted, most of those miles were upgrades to first class because I did fly so much.. but if you choose your seat - go for an aisle -you'll have a bit more room - and have your flying companion in the window seat - very few people will consciously pick a middle seat unless ther's nothing left... so yo umight get lucky -and if there is someone in the middle your companion can shift to the middle seat

Hey!

I can understand your worry. I have a pretty huge waist myself, (53 inches around) and I was worried about it a bit too. I have flown United and Northwest at this weight, and I flew coach, all times in a window seat next to strangers comfortably. Well, not loose and confortable. There was a little bit of pressure on my sides, but nothing horrible... If you have a smaller waist than 53 inches, I think you're ok!
