aiming for a six pack

really? i mean like i said the picture may be misleading but i am very thin, but if you think thats best ill do a little more cardio than usual (i do my cardio everyday anyway) and no unfortunately i dont do weighted ab exercises, all i have is dumbbells which are quite light tbh, at the moment i do about 5 stomach exercises, 15 reps 3 sets.. do you think weighted ab exercises are a necessity to get noticeable abs?

I don't think more cardio is the answer. From my perspective, I don't think that you have so much stomach fat that more cardio is going to do much more about.

IMHO, focus on core strength. Not just the 6 pack but obliques too.

Here's a thought, have a functional goal for your abs. What I mean by that is, what kind of strength do you want from your core? What activity would you like to benefit from a strong core? Where could you benefit from core stability?

A good place to start would be body weight exercises. aside from basic crunches, you could plank, side plank and leg raise.

fair enough, will training my core really make alot of difference? im just thinking about it and dont see how it does, not saying your wrong just saying i cant visualise it!

i do planks and leg raises sometimes, and i could try side planks but what other core training exercises are there?

and also, the problem i seem to have with my abs is, i have the 'outline' of them, so they do show through, yet for some reason the 'lines' that divide up the abs, to make it an actual 'six pack' arent there? how can i make them visible?

Burn more fat. :)

Oh, and for core, try renegade rows. They are awesome. And I still want you to try weighted crunches. Do you have access to a cable machine?

and if i burn more fat the 'lines' inbetween the abs will show up? thats the only reason they arent, cos of fat?

unfortunately i only workout at home and only have dumbbells so.. and do you have a youtube link to what renegade rows are? :)

Renegade rows:

Since you don't have access to a cable machine, you can add resistance to your ab routine by doing weighted crunches with your dumbells:

And, yes, like I mentioned before, getting your abs to show is 99.99999999% about your body fat level. I can see my abs fine right now. If I eat like crap for 2 weeks, they go back into hiding.

ahh okay ive seen renegade rows before, just didnt know the name.. when i do them should i do them on a weight that i curl at? or a bit lighter? or even heavier?

and ill try doing weighted crunches from now on, thanks :)

Go lighter. I know I could never do them with the same amount of weight I can curl. Probably 1/2 of that actually.

Alright jakee. In new to the site and im in the same sitchuation as you dude. How you getting on anymore progress other the past month or so??

Stevie

thanks sxipro, i found that using like 4.5kg dumbbells seemed fine when i normally curl like 10-12kg :)

and hey stevieboy, tbh not that great! the advice been given to me is good i just think im not following them to the best of my ability, ive stopped doing cardio recently because i cant seem to lose enough weight or anything so my motivation has kind of dropped recently haha

Important step to get six pack abs: Is there any way to any place of your body fat loss goals. You need to lose some excess fat on your ABS. Even if you exercise, AB and get huge muscles if they are still a layer of fat that no one will see them. Aerobic exercise training to improve your heart rate for a given time. Some examples will be running, jogging, biking, dancing, boating.

btw i was just wondering, if i wanted to get my abs to show through, it seems i need to lose weight? would this be achieved by what i actually eat, or just how many calories i consume?

Basically you need to burn more calories than you take in. BUT of course your over all fitness level will be determined by where those calories come from. Sugar is the enemy for sure. You want lean meats, fruits, veggies, whole grains and 'good' fats like from almonds, fish etc.
