hello all!
I'm quite excited about this forum. I didn't think I'd be interested in one, but today I sat down and thought, if I'm going to be lazing about at the computer anyway, I might as well chat with fellow weight-losers.
First off, I'm 26 and I've never been slim or even close. I've always been built for hard labor, and big-boned. (it IS a real thing, trust me, I'm an osteologist... lol). I've almost always been the fat girl. and the tall girl. and the weird girl. not that I mind the last two so much.
However, after highschool, my physical activity level pretty much flatlined. now my muscles are very much weakened and have been padded by much fat. in fact my back muscles are so weak I started to get spasms. (yes, I'm a computer geek, so I was not surprised).
Anyway, I started losing weight the summer of 2008 when I started eating better and also started a new job at which I'm up and down all day.
About a month ago I started going to a gym fairly regularly. I have always loved weight training so that isn't a problem, but cardio is pretty much new and not easy, especially since I have mild asthma. I'm hoping to get my lungs used to running.... even though I could never run without issues.
Since my highest known weight of 297lbs (size 26) I have lost about 40 lbs, 2 dress sizes, and something like 20+ inches from here and there, 20lbs since June 2008. Being 5'10" and female, and not wanting to be 'thin' so much as healthily curvy (personal preference), I'm really hoping to get down to 190lbs, or a size 14/16. Heck, I'd even be ecstatic about a size 18, which I haven't been since highschool. (Prom dress!! haha)
Another thing, I'm not *really* dieting. I eat better and I eat less. I have medium-sized breakfasts, medium-large lunches, and very small dinners. I burn off almost everything I eat during the working day - sometimes I think just stressing does the job...
I have limited carbs to healthy cereals and low-cal bread for the most part, but occasionally indulge in lovely yummy pastas and bakery breads.
Why have I really lost all this weight? Far less binging. No more boxes of cookies or pints of ice cream. Instead I allow myself small servings of treats but not every day. It works for the most part, but I still get huge cravings now and again which usually don't go away even if I ignore them for weeks on end. This is my biggest hurdle, but I've gotten this far and I hope I can go further.
