Hi everyone. The name is Tam. I've been a lurker for about a month, or so. :D Long story short, I am trying to lose about 25 lbs. Not much compared to alot of you, but its alot on a small frame. I'm at 148 now, 156 being my heaviest. Only a few months ago I was at 136. I've lost some motivation. I eat very healthy, but eating healthy and cutting calories alone does not make me lose weight. I take in about 1200 calories a day. I feel that my metabolism is slow. Myth? Maybe. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cutting calories works, but you might want to check WHEN you are eating (ie one huge meal? no breakfast? or 6 smaller spaced out ones?). Also start a sport or some exercise that you can carry on once you get to your weight.

As for the metabolism, sorry but that ones a bit of a myth as well. The larger you are the faster it has to go to just maintain your weight and keep you going.

Try signing up at fitday.com or sparkpeople.org etc. It might help you and show you where exactly you are going wrong.

I cant wait to get down to 150s :D

I have a food checkbook that I have to record everything I eat. It shows nutrition facts of fruits and veggies, meats, condiments, spreads, beans, and well a lot of food. So its easy for me to keep track of what I eat, and how much calories I take in. Not to mention, I'm a nutrition label whore, I read it all. I know what I take in. I read on here somewhere that it doesn't matter when you eat, it matters how much you eat. But I eat small meals throughout the day. Like for breakfast, I have a cup of cereal with soymilk, and usually a snack before lunch, lunch usually consists of a turkey sandwich on wholegrain with a fruit or I have a salad instead of sandwich, and then a mid after noon snack is another half a sandwich with a fruit, and dinner is chicken or fish with veggies. No sauce or extra fattening condiments. Everything is usually plain. Thats just an example of how I eat. My calories usually equal out to about 12-1300 a day. My exercise? I have free weights that I use at home, along with exercise videos. I have a home gym, and an eliptical machine. I do an hour of exercise 5-6 times a week. Cutting calories alone for me, doesn't do anything. I have to add exercise to it, not that its a bad thing to exercise - but I see a lot of people around me cuttin calories alone and it works for them. I do lose weight when I add exercise, so its not a problem, but I have the worst motivation level ever. lol

Oh to be at 148lbs... :D *dreams*

Welcome and good luck... there's plenty of advice and support to be had here.

Welcome. :)

Weight loss is dependent on energy deficits, plain and simply. You create a deficit either through a reduction in calorie intake (food), increased activity (exercise), or a combination of the two.

If you create a deficit, your body does not have a choice, but to catabolize tissue. It is basic thermodynamics and physiology.
