After weight loss: excess skin?

Hi guys.. I am a 22 year old male and weigh around 280 right now.. I have a solid plan for weight loss involving 30 mins of cardio and weight lifting, every other day. From what i'm told this is a very good plan and I believe it will work. I just hope i'm able to stay motivated enough to keep it up. Anyway my question is.. if I lose weight, like 100lbs, will I have excess/flabby skin? Or am I still young enough where my skin will just go back to normal?

Since you're young your chances are good, just make sure to lose weight slowly and to do weight lifting to give your skin something else to cling to when the fat goes away. If you drop weight too fast the likelihood of loose skin rises, also make sure to eat healthy proteins/fats/nutrients to maintain your skin.

From what I've read from personal research, loose skin after weight loss depends on several things like your age, how fast you lost weight, how much you lost etc. You're 22, thats young so you have that going for you! If you lose weight slowly, even better!

I'm worried about this too ha, I currently weigh 234lbs and the thought of needing to lose 100+lbs (im very short) and having excess skin is very scary. But in my opinion, I would rather be healthy with a bit of excess skin, than to stay grossly obese.

Don't let the fear of loose excess skin keep you from your weight loss goals.

Good luck with your journey! :)

I didn't really think about it when I began, but do now. I was around your weight when I started (278lbs) and am now about 214lbs or so. You will have some flab related to the loss, but if you do weight training as was mentioned earlier it really helps to tone it up. It'll take continued exercise and just time to go away. I'm hopeful to be to 175lbs before too long, and I'm sure I'll have flab once there just due to the amount lost.

Also, side note, make sure you get a lot of Vitamin E as it contributes to skin elasticity and helps keep skin young/firm looking.

Tons of things play a role here, so it's nearly impossible to answer. Age does help. Elasticity of skin is also dependent on genetics, environmental factors, length of time you held excess fat, amount of excess fat, rate of fat gain and loss, nutrition, exercise, etc.

Fight the good fight and cross the bridge of excess skin when and if you get there.

Worse case scenario, it's the one plastic surgery I'm more than okay with for those who need it after conquering their weight problems.

That's a fair rate. Or around 1% of total body weight per week. This should not be confused however with what to expect on a week to week basis. It's an average over the long trends for those who have exercise, nutrition, and consistency dialed in.

Also, things tend to change for those who are relatively thin trying to get leaner.

Be aware as well, if you have the patience your skin will tighten up on it's own over time. I've been at my goal weight for two months and I'm starting to see real inroads to the skin issue. One of the two skin flaps that used to be extra chins is now gone. On my stomach I see a lessening as well, although not quite a dramatic as what I see on my neck. So if your vanity will gift you with the patience, I'd suggest about a year maintaining at your goal before you decide on more drastic remedies. Good luck to you!
