aegga retarded

uhg...
OK we had our football max day for juniors. on squat i got 365 increasing by 50 lbs since end of season. On bench i got 255. My bench of 255 is tied for highest on the team..now im proud of that because i work my butt off to get where i got. All of a sudden i hear talk like " oh clark just got that because he has short arms." Now my arms are like 1 inch below average. Im sick of hearing this all the time. I weigh 208 lbs and im also hearing stuff like oh u got up 255 cause your bigger. Its like i was stripped of my accomplishment. I work very hard on my lifting and it just sucks when you get excited and then here stuff like oh he has short arms. Its pathetic....today i was doing reps and a football player was watching me and says to a fellow teammate..."Lol.. look how short his arms are" Is there anyway i can prove to them im just plain stronger with or without the length of my arms?!?!? I know im stronger either way cause i put tons more effort and im in there all the time. Did any of you guys have this problem? Cause its really getting to me and it's like making my lifting depressing cause no matter what i do they will come back to that!!!! Alright...hope i didnt sound like a whiner to much ! ;)

honestly....who cares what they say. Is the only reason you are working out for other people. Why is it so important to prove that you are stronger?

Our football team had different maxes (less) that had to be reached by taller guys for their gold, silver, and bronze acknowledgements. I think it's generally accepted that 'shorter = easier'. You're moving the weight less distance.

Instead of having it piss you off, just be happy that you've increased your own maxes.. the competition with yourself is what will keep you going in the long run, you won't be in highschool football forever. It's not like you cut your arms to give you an advantage in the bench, so stuff like that isn't anything you can control.. so don't bother thinking about it.

Remember why you lift for football, it's to help your performance on the field, not to brag about how much you can bench.. your team should be happy that you can do that much as it relates on the football field.. as a team.

And you should encourage your teammates with that competition.. it's healthy because it makes you and your teammates want to be in the gym more often and work harder. They're not doing their job if they're making you less enthusiastic about going to the gym, and you're not doing yours if you're trying to show them up and make them not want to be in there with you either. Help make it a friendly, healthy competition that isn't mean spirited or selfish and short arm talk won't come up.

You'll never hear competitive lifters say that about another lifter. So, the next time they smart off to you, you simply shrug and say

"It doesn't matter. I'm stronger than you."

Of course, you could go into all the details about how at powerlifting meets there's no bull**** whining about someone having shorter arms or legs than another person. That's all their doing...whining and justifying themselves for being weaker than you.

yea thanks for the replies....On the field we back each other up big time.. but also i guess it seems like there is a competitive edge to the lifting a little bit. In high school sports a very popular question.." how much you bench, squat?" I dont brag myself up about my lifting...i actually hate it when people watch me bench. laterz

Ive noticed that people that dont lift weights are always digging at muscular men.
People are ill-informed about bodybuilding and powerlifting because they think its dangerous and bad for you. When I started I was afraid to tell people that I was trying to add muscle because everyone thinks your gonna pop out like arnie in a few weeks.
Everyone said
"why would you want to look like that?"
just cos they subconsciously dont want me to be bigger than them.

Im pretty short 5'7, there is nothing I can do about that. People take the piss, but im stuck with it. one thing that I can change is the size of my muscles and inprove the shape of my body. Since Ive changed my shape and built up a bit, nobody has commented on my size and I am treated in a diffrent way. It doesnt affect me, but its amusing to me how people change there attitude when you have bigger muscles than them.
