I have enjoyed reading the threads in here for the last month or so ...so I decided to join. My problem. I am 6'2" 221pds. I do HVAC for a living. I am also diabetic 2 for the last five years. I guess some of y'all already know that taking some of the prescribed pills for diabetes make you hungry all the time so it is a heck of a fight everyday.I'm 52 years old. I work out an hour in the morning wearing leg irons and also carrying eight pound weights in each hand and tilt the tread mill to 5 and then to 8 then to 10, for about 5 minutes then go back to regular walking at 2.8 miles an hour with out the eight pound weights. I do this for a full hour. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Sometimes my blood sugar drops below 60 and I have to eat a glucose tablet to get my sugar up to were I don't drop...lol. For breakfast I have 3 eggs scrambled one piece of bread with sugarless jelly and a small orange juice. If I don't eat this and work out my blood sugar drops below 60 so this works fine for me. For a snack I drink a small low fat/no salt V-8 and a low fat cheese stick. For lunch a Wendy's BLT Salad with water/ snack at three is the same as the morning. Dinner fish, chicken with vegs....my problem is I still can't seen to loose this gut. My doctor would like to see me down to 180 to 140  and I said he is nuts....I weighted that much in high school and was skinny...anyway does anyone have this problem or any sugestions:confused: ...Mike

you might want to reconsider that wendy's lunch - that salad has close to 700 calories in it

and almost 1400 grams of sodium...

just a thought there..

Whoa - your 6'2" and your doctor wants you at 140? SWITCH DOCTORS! That's insane!!

My husband is overweight, 6'0" at 260... I know once he was down to 220, and honestly? I could see him MAYBE going down to 190...

That being said...

BLT salad. Bacon lettuce and tomato? Bacon is high in calories and fat... low in carbs, but high in nitrates. So even Atkins frowns partially on bacon, they say not to have too much.

I can't argue with your breakfast because you are saying that you need it for your diabetes.

You work your ass off being HVAC - my dad is HVAC, so I know!

I say our probably getting plenty of excerisize, but perhaps do some situps?

If you can - and I understand if you can't - don't have 3 eggs for breakfast - but only 2. Snacks sound good.

I don't know what else to tell you - are you getting your water?

Log your stuff into Fitday.com for a while - that may help!

I can understand what you are saying about the salad but by the time five oclock rolls around my blood sugar has dropped to 60...any lower I start to shake...lol. I burn off that stuff in no time...between 4 and 5 I can start to feel light headed from the sugar drop I see the doc tommorrow and he has wanted me to join Weight Watchers but I have already been there and done that with no progress in that area...we'll see what he says after a few test.

You could probably do better with a subway turkey sammich with mustard and cheese and veggies, rather than a fast food salad... or even 2 turkey sammiches for the calories in one of those salads...

According to the BMI calculator at the CDC site, 140 pounds at 6'2" is UNDERWEIGHT. Are you sure your doc wants you that thin?

Hi Bear...yea since I am diabetic he wants me to be as lite as possible...lol...he weights about 120 pounds and eats like a bird. I have had surgery 5 times in 5 years due to blood clots due to being diabetic..bummer. He would like to see my blood sugar below 100 which is damn near impossible for me. Average person is between 120 to 90. The doctor who did all the surgery said the type work I do I will never be able to survive under 2500 calories a day. I have tried for 2000 a day but boy did I pay for it around two oclock...had to chum down five glucose tablets to get my sugar level back up to where I could walk. Will look into the Wendy's thing to see if that could be causing some of my weight problem in the gut area.I would be happy around 190 to 200...it would at least take me off the insulin shots and one of the pills.Poking a needle in ya everyday gets old. I am having to do this more often to keep the sugar level below 100 like he wants..after this incision closes up I should be back to normal shots.Mike

Here are two pictures of the gut I am trying to loose. The first one of me and my sister and brother inlaw...I am wearing the jeans, this was last year at the ski lodge and the second one of me by my self is at Key West Florida this summer. As you can see nothing changed, pants still at 40:( would like to be at 38 or better yet 36 and kiss that tire bye-bye but I am playing hell doing it.

LOL...he is trying to dump his tummy too:eek: . We are getting ready to go on a ten day Western Cruise and then fly back down to Cozumel for a week in April...I would love to leave the tire that is hanging in front of me in Virginia. Do they make floats just for your belly:D When we went snow skiing this past winter it almost killed me by the time I got down the end of the mountain...that extra 25 pounds was a tuffie:(
