Hello, I am on a general diet which involves cutting back calories. But I then read that carbs will make you fat, no matter the calorie content. I then read that good carbs don't (sweet potato, chickpeas). This is all fine except that one of my favourite meals is made with rice flour! According to stuff online if I eat anything made with rice flour, even if it is organic, I'll gain weight no matter the calorie content! This has made me really distressed as I was going to buy it but I was too scared of the consequences. By the way, not sure if it matters but I'm 5"9' and 47kg.

Thank you for any replies.

A popular myth is that carbs will make you fat or not allow you to lose weight. The problem is not that carbs make you fat but rather that if you consume simple carbs (sugars and fruit juices for example) it will tend to mess around with your hunger levels due to insulin spikes etc.

So it is important to remember that at the end of the day all that matters is that you are in a caloric deficit.

The foods you choose to lose weight will definitely have an effect on your mood and likelihood to stick to the diet. So it is advisable to eat generally healthy foods (sweet potato and chickpeas are very good btw). If you can manage to reduce your sugar content, it will make it easier for you to be successful in the long run.

Hope that helped!

Sparecat depends on body type.

I avoid all obvious carbohydrates and eat quite a high fat diet (mainly through nuts)

Sounds like you gain easy?

If so cut out pasta, rice, sugar, bread and eat things like sweet potato 3-4 times a week.

Eat fresh lean foods you cook yourself. And only have processed food once a week.

Once you get into it it's pretty easy. I've prescribed this style to 1000,s of clients online and it rarely fails, and if it does it's because junk gets added I to the diet
