Advice/opinion on my routine..

Hi, I'm a 17-year-old girl. I currently weigh in at 143 pounds, but am looking to lose between 20-30 pounds before summer starts again. I'm maintaining a balanced diet (not following anything too strict, making sure I don't eat any junk) and today I got myself one of those steppers (side to side ones). I definitely don't have time to do anything else -- the only time I have is about 2 hours of free time before bed, and I'm planning to spend at least half an hour on the stepper every night.

I already do about 1.5 hours of school sports (football/hockey/etc.) and from 1 hour to 1.5 hours of karate a week. I'm hoping that by May/June, I will have reached my goal weight of about 110-120.

Is this a good way to achieve it? I'm just looking for a little bit of advice, as I wanna know whether I need to get much more strict with my routine, or will this have effects over the next few months?

The deciding factor whether or not you will lose weight is your calorie intake. What is your maintenance line, and how many calories are you consuming currently?

I reckon I'm consuming about 1500, take a little maybe -- and based on calculators around the net, my maintenance line is 2000+, if I've understood everything correctly. :p

good plan - add patience

Hi sillyrabbit, it sounds like your plan is a good one.

You'll need to watch out because you'll lose weight at first then hit a plateau, want to eat everything you see, and not feel like exercising. To lose a significant amount of weight you have to work on the long term.

Some tips: make sure you enjoy your exercise routine, do it with a buddy if you can. Use forums like these to help you, this is a good one, you could also try

Good luck!

You should find out your body fat % and use that to figure out how much weight to lose.

You don't say how tall you are, but if you are already playing football and hockey and doing karate, I suspect that you may have too much lean muscle mass to be a healthy 110, quite possibly even 120.

This isn't a BAD thing at all! I'm saying: you may not have as many pounds to lose as you think you do and you want to be careful not to have to high a calorie deficit in pursuit of your goal (so you can maintain the muscle you already have)...
