Advice on Martial Arts needed

Hello, all
I have been a boxer for quite some time and would consider myself and record to be pretty good however I feel like learning something new now maybe "Krav Magna " I believe that is how it is spelled. anyway
I want to learn a Martial art that is actually useful if ever need be i had to use it and i have heard Krav is the best for this.
What are yalls thoughts? or maybe a suggestion on what you believe is the best for self defense.

thank you

Boxing is pretty good already. I would be weary of most krav maga schools, as you never even make contact with anyone. The best thing to do is to look at the options that are available to you and go from there.

The teacher is probably more important than the school or style. I keep hearing about Krav Maga recently, but it honestly just sounds like a craze to me. You know how to punch, learn how to kick, knee and survive on the ground. Even wrestling would compliment your current skillset. Bjj + boxing would be very decent, muay thai could compliment you well. Many forms of karate will be a great addition as would kung fu, given the right instructors.

G'day mate, Boxing a certainly formidable, all you need is a bit of military self defence, & it's pretty easy to track down. the americian infantry combat manaul FM21-150 gives you truck loads of sound infomation. suss it out then go sniffing around for a instructor, who meets your needs, their out there. It all comes down to what you want, is it instinctive, because anything complicated will disapear really fast from your memory when it's really on.;)

There are schools that teach Krav Maga with a decent amount of contact. The IDF Krav Maga training is very close to full contact.

The whole thing with Krav Maga though is that its emphasis is almost purely martial and very little art. Its great as a tool for soldiers, but there is only so far you can go with it. I personally would never recommend it as something for someone who is getting into martial arts recreationally.

What do you mean they make very little contact? what, is Krav magna some sort of shadow boxing?

Is boxing a good form of self defence?
I'd like to start some form of self defence and lots of martial arts seem to be more about showmanship if you know what I mean and finding a good one would be tricky, boxing seems more basic.
What would you reccomend.

About self defence:nothing's happened to me in all the years of living in the city, however I'd like a self defence thats more about protecting others if you get what I mean,I saw an old man being mugged on the train one night,I got on just as the thieves got off so i was too late, but if I was a bit earlier I would've like to have done something

For an average street fight against your average American there is probably no style with a better time invested/returns gained than boxing. Unless you are a very small guy or petite woman.
Just my opinion.

The strikes deal a lot with vital spots like throat strikes, eye gouges, nasal strikes, etc. Suffice to say these aren't ideal places for anyone to have any contact, regardless of how light.

Well I'm skinny but 6foot and quick on my feet.Should I still consider boxing as a good thing to start on?
Thanks

Boxing is great my friend, I love it.
Boxing is great for self defense although i wont say it to be the best since i have not learned any other style besides boxing.

Just make sure to actually learn how to do it correctly. Do not just go get a bag and start hitting it. I see people all the time who come in and want to fight "in the ring" who have never learned the proper form and so on and they get in the ring like their all that and just get knocked out. i have seen a lot of rookies break/strain their wrist going to the 100 pound bags before they should because they do not know how to punch.

Side note
When you knock someone out and have them laying on the ground in the ring it is quite a rush ;)

Hey silent. I used to box. 10 years in the fight game. I suggest brazilian Jui Jitsu. The classes are much more fun than most martial arts I've tried. They consist of 10-15 mins instruction and then sparring for the rest of the class. It's a great work out and pretty much the most effective martial art there is. Also Judo is very effective and seems fun although I have no experience in it.

Ha,no way would I go near the ring until I was sure I had some training:D.What should I be looking for when choosing a place to train.
