advice needed

i am 21 female, 5'11" and about 230lbs. sounds like a lot of weight for a girl, but i'm swedish and scottish, so i've got a larger bone structure, and i used to horseback ride, so i've got some muscle too.

i believe i have an underactive thyroid, i've been overwight my whole life, and every time there's a big change in my life, i gain 10-20lbs, then stop. height vs. weight i've been about the same my whole life. when i got married and moved out of my parents house, that was the last one and i went from about 205 to about 230, and i've been at 230 for at least 2 years, no matter what i eat. my mom is a health nut, and i don't eat HORRIBLY, but i don't eat that great either. i could eat worse if i tried, lol.

i don't exercise at all really. i work swing shift, four 10 hour days, and my job consists of sewing. for 10 hours i sit at a sewing machine. after 8 hours of sleep, and driving back and forth from work, i get about 4.5 hours every day for other stuff. not a lot of time.

basically, i don't want to be thin. i want to slim down a little. i like my boobs and hips, but i want to get rid of my gut. is there anything i can do to focus on that area, without losing too much elsewhere?

Spot reduction is generally assumed to be a myth. So just reducing your stomach isn't going to happen. Start exercising, but start slowly. Walk every morning and every evening. Take a walk at lunch break if you can, even if it's just one loop around the building.

Keep a journal of everything you eat for a month. This will tell you what you're eating, how often, and how much. Then you can come up with a good diet plan. The best diet plan generally calls for 6 well balanced meals a day, but small meals. This keeps your metabolism running high for most of the day.

Don't look to the thyroid as your issue. See if it's just not enough activity.

Good luck! You can do this! You already have a goal set, now you need to develop a "roadmap" to get there!
