Adipex-The weight loss pill

Since I have joined here, I have been excercising regularly again, eating only fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, lowfat dairy, and drinking nothing but water. I have lost nothing. In fact I am so so sad to say that I have gained about two pounds. I went to the doctor and my blood pressure was high, and I even had my thyroid checked. I don't know what else to do. There is a weight loss doctor that I got in contact with and he puts his patients on a supplement called Adipex. It is something that curbs your hunger pains, and gives you energy, and it is FDA approved. I don't know about it though. I am a little worried. I do know a few people who have went on it and lost 30 pounds or more. It sounds kinda scary though. Any advice?

I think diet pills are a bad idea... I don't care if they are presribed by a doctor or the tooth fairy - I dont think they are a good idea.

Doesn't matter what you're eating -if you're going over your suggested calorie count for the day you are going to gain weight... doesn't matter if it's healthy food or crap - excess calories mean weight gain.

I woudl suggest getting a kitchen scale and measuring implements and getting an account at or one fo the 100s of other free sites out there and keep track of your calories for a week.

Knowing nothing about the pill I will give you my opinion, there is a lot of FDA approved stuff that isn’t good for you. It may help you lose weight, but so will smoking meth. I am a firm believer that everyone can lose weight the natural way with the right diet and exercise. I have a friend that is overweight and no matter what he did he couldn’t lose weight. He started taking supplements and gained even more weight. Eventually he consulted a nutritionist and found out that his body is unable to break-down certain types of sugars (or something like that). Basically, he had to modify his diet so he was eating less food that contained those sugars. He still has to go to the gym and all that fun stuff but he is losing weight.

I would always suggest going to a nutritionist and maybe trying a couple different diets with your workout routine to find one that works. For me, I always see weight loss pills and stuff like that ending with disappointment.

If you gained 2 lbs it sounds like either water retention or muscle. If you eat what you say you eat, you should not gain weight, even w/o excersise.

How do your clothes fit. I go up and down all the time, and I'm on a vegan diet. I haven't lost a pound in about 2 weeks, but my measurements and my once fat face tell a different story.

Don't rely too much on the scale.

And don't take any pills. You want something to curb your appitite? Eat more fiber. Eat more fruits and veggies. Sometimes I eat so much, I waddle. You don't want anything else after that. And most veggies/fruits are low in calories, and high in nutrients.

Thanks for the advice. I am glad that I talked with people on here before I made a possible mistake. I actually measured myself today and was surprised to see that I have lost inches. And to be honest I have lost them almost everywhere! That made me feel better. I guess I have just been so used to looking at the scale for so long that I have come to rely on that a lot. I am still worried about my high blood pressure. I am only 27, but I do have a stressful job teaching 4th graders and there has been a lot of changes in the school that I work at this year. I am not sure if stress would make my blood pressure go up. I was just assuming it was my weight. Thanks again everyone!

There can be many reasons why Blood pressure is high, not just being overweight..and to be honest only your Doctor can tell you which is the underlying cause of yours. Stress most certainly can be one of those reasons. I'm sure that your healthy eating will show you results on the scales in time...and your 'loss of inches' shows that you are becoming healthier..so just keep up what your doing..something must be right!
