Addicted to Weighing

Friday Scale Day

Sounds awesome. Have to opt out of this Friday (at work with no scale in sight) But I will weigh Sunday morning (when I am finally near a scale) and then follow the FSD. I am going to make a seperate thread about this so we can organise a forum wide FSD! (Friday Scale Day)

I am putting it in my siggy!

First thing in the morning is the lightest, as Patty discussed. But what time of day is the most accurate?

This is the most accurate time, because it is not affected by a big meal or drinking a lot, etc. This is the weight that is more likely to be consistently accurate, and after all, it is the progress you are making rather than the actual number that you are, that counts. You shouldn't feel that just because it is lighter than you are later in the day, that you are cheating. As long as it is at the same time.

I am a compulsive weigher, but I manage to get over the highs and lows by always having an excuse before I get on the scales. I've got my TOTM, or I had something salty the day before so I am retaining water, or I'm a bit blocked up (sorry to be graphic:eek: ), or bloated, or had a big meal the day before. If I haven't got an excuse, I will only get on the scales if I am confident that it will be a positive outcome. To be honest, this does make it somewhat pointless because the food I eat that puts on the weight is normally sugary or salty, makes me retain water aswell, and I go into denial when I see that I have put on weight. Is anyone else exhausted!!

I believe that I am addicted to the scale as well, I go on the scale everyday or even twice a day o_O. I don't even know if my scale is accurate, its always different.. I have to get a new one. I'm going to try to weigh myself once a week hahaha.

Xoxo, why not join one of the weighing clubs. There is a Friday one and a Monday one, depending on your preference. Monday is often better because it helps you stay motivated over the weekend when you might be more likely to stray. They all weigh on the same day and discuss their results. It can help keep you off the scales every morning.

Go onto The Club board and have a browse. Maybe join another club if there is one that suits you :)

PS - another tip is to have electronic scales and give the battery to someone strong willed, and get them to only give it back to you one day a week. I do this and it does help.

I weigh and record every day but I don't see it as a problem. It helps me to keep a closer eye on what I am doing over the week. I think if I did not wiegh myself every day it would be easy to rationalize eating this or that or not exercising on one day or another. I do not trust myself.

Thats good, BigBear. I don't think weighing everyday is a problem, unless you get hung up on small fluctuations. Also I read somewhere that women's water weight fluctuates a lot more than men's (probably to do with hormones!) so you may not have a problem with this. I tend to weigh everyday, but today was my first official FSD weigh day, and now I have taken the battery out of my scales and put the scales in the cupboard. This should help me get out of the habit, and hopefully one day I won't have to be so extreme and will just not go on them :D

I am also addicted to my scale. I get on every morning without fail and record that number for my eyes and my eyes only. I use my Monday weigh-in to move my ticker on this site. I won't lie- there are days I jump on the scale a billion times... but I am just weird like that and I do my best not to let it get to me.

To some extent my reasons for weighing daily make sense- Whenever I drop to the next ten, I have to promise myself I will never see that number again. For instance, I NEVER want to see 25X on my scale ever ever ever again. So every time I jump on the scale and don't see that 25X, I am just tickled pink. I'm weird, I know- but hopefully that will prevent me from rebounding this time around.

But, of course, that is the reason we do it, isn't it ... that good feeling we get when we see a good number. I think it is an addiction, because we are getting gratification from something, and find it hard to give that up. And that is why I have to go to such extremes, and have the battery hiden  .

Val, I am the same way/weigh. My scale is in kilograms, being in a metric country for the moment. I hit 118kg (about 260lbs), which was only 2kg shy of the maximum the scale could handle. I used to be right there at the very end of the scale but now that is slowly disappearing from view. I never, ever want to be in this zone again. As I see it fading away it gives me great hope that I will once again be a healthy weight.

Yes I am also addicted to my scale. I even keep it in the kitchen :)

I weigh myself many times a day, starting from the morning to the evening. I think of it as a motivation that keeps me on track. It is also kind of interesting to see how much the weight can fluctuate in one day, I have seen differences on my weight during one day up to 10 lbs!!!!!! Since I am so heavy as I am, I put on A LOT of lbs if I get bloated, but the scale has enabled me to find out what kind of food make me bloated, and even how some physical things can make me very bloated. That is when I am tired, when its hot outside, when its that time of the month. Now Aunt Rosie is knocking on my door, and my response to the number on the scale is "WHAT THE F.......". Luckily I have been losing weight for nearly 6 months, so I know that the number always goes down eventually.

Another thing that is kind of strange with the weight, is that my weight gets into a certain number, then it goes up and down, up and down for nearly a week, then in a single day it plummets down by 2-5 lbs. I am always wondering, where did those lbs go?? And in one day!!!!

Heidrun,

I have had the same experience. My weight will fluctuate wildly for several days before taking a real dive. These dives sometimes happen after plateaus as well. I will have several days without changes and then suddenly two or three or even more pounds will come off. The lightening will continue like that for another day or two and then settle down to a slower loss or another plateau.

Mysterious.

And, like you, I like to see how my body weight changes from day to day and even during the course of the day. I have a pretty good idea now about how my body reacts to certain foods or exercise or lack thereof.
