hello,

I am so addicted to drinking coke. I've quite about 5 different times but after 2-3 weeks i fall off the water wagon and I am feeling like there is no hope for me. :( I am 5'3 and weigh 160.... I really want to lose weight but every time I start trying I do good the 1st week and then I just binge and give up. Any advice is welcome. Thank you :ack2:

Hey, welcome! I'm addicted to coca cola too (well sodas in general actually) and i've been trying to quit since I drink like 2lt a day, which is waaay too much. The first step is to switch to the zero or diet versions I think, it's a lotttt less calories and sugar, although be careful with the ingredients some use cos there are studies that say that too much of them can be bad.

I really want to lose weight but every time I start trying I do good the 1st week and then I just binge and give up.

I do the same thing that you do and it's very hard to control, I still can't, but I'm trying to be optimistic about it, I can't expect to lose the weight I've gained in all of these years quickly or change my eating habits overnight either, I'm gonna screw up but the imporant thing is to get up and just keep going.

Anyway good luck :) and check out this website to start a log of what you eat, it really helps you out, a girl from this forum recommended me it and it's awesome.

Can you not get away with diet coke instead of full strength coke. It is not the healthiest thing on the earth but it is certainly less calories than the full strength coke. Quite a lot of us still have some in moderation - I certainly do. I drink my water allocation every day and after that happily have some diet cola. I often have diet cola if I am at a social event - in fact I will be going out soon and having some...

If you dont like the taste of one brand - try some others - you may find another brand that you like.

Before I started my weight loss journey, I drank one or two sodas a day. The full strength stuff...I just don't like the taste of diet colas at all. When I made the decision to lose the weight, I knew drinking soda every day was just not gonna cut it, so I started cutting back. First, to every other day, then every third day, and so on. Then, an interesting thing happened. I realized that when I did drink a coke, I felt very bloated and uncomfortable. I also had to pee alot...I realized the stuff is not good for the bladder. I did not like how the soda made me feel. It sure made it easier to pass on it, and stick with water!
Do I still drink an occasional soda? Yes, I do. Especially if I am treating myself to pizza or something, I like a coke with it. But, it is very occasional...maybe once a week or less. I got over the craving and believe that you can too...it just takes time and determination. You will feel better and it helps with weight loss. JMO...but I am convinced it's true!
Good luck!

Thanks for all the good advice. I can't handle the aspartame is diet colas...it gives me major headaches. I went 5 days without a coke and then drank one. I think I am going to try having 1 a week because so far never having one just sets me up for failure. Thanks again:waving:

Hi Allie.

I feel your pain. I was addicted to the stuff too. I drank it every damn day, and if I missed even a single day then I got brutal headaches.

I can't say that this will work for you, but here's how I did it.
I quit, cold turkey, just like that.
Well, almost. I knew I was going to have problems with the caffeine withdrawal, so I switched to iced tea (real iced tea, made with teabags and stuff, only added 1 tsp of sugar per 2 litre batch, but also added a bag of peppermint tea to each batch). I then took that and cut it even further with water as I drank it. I would use a 1 litre bottle, fill it with iced tea, and as I drank it down I would keep adding water until it was very weak, under 1/4 strength.
A couple of weeks of that and I was onto just plain water. No cola. No tea. No diet cola. No headaches. No fatigue.

In the last six months, I have had cola about 3 times, and each time I threw half of it away. I just don't like the stuff anymore.

I work hard at not drinking the diet stuff, both because it tastes vile and I believe that the stuff is bad for you. I do, however, drink it a little. The city water in my town is so awful that diet cola tastes good by comparison, so at a local restaurant I will have a diet pepsi. That doesn't happen very often, and when I am in other cities I cheerfully order water.

It can be done. I did it, you can do it.
I wish you success in getting that monkey off your back.

How much were you drinking before? I think finding a way to enjoy the things you like in moderation is the key. One a week sounds good to me.
