Adderal as a weight loss supplement

I'm currently taking 30mg of Adderal once per day(in the morning). I know many people are against taking different kinds of weight loss supplements but I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this and if so, what did you feel like and how did it turn out?

The combination of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine can be habit-forming. Do not take a larger dose, take the medication more often, or take it for a longer time than prescribed by your doctor. If you take too much dextroamphetamine and amphetamine, you may find that the medication no longer controls your symptoms, you may feel a need to take large amounts of the medication, and you may experience symptoms such as rash, difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, irritability, hyperactivity, and unusual changes in your personality or behavior. Overusing dextroamphetamine and amphetamine may also cause sudden death or serious heart problems such as heart attack or stroke.

Tell your doctor if you or anyone in your family drinks or has ever drunk large amounts of alcohol, uses or has ever used street drugs, or has overused prescription medications. Your doctor will probably not prescribe dextroamphetamine and amphetamine for you.

Do not stop taking dextroamphetamine and amphetamine without talking to your doctor, especially if you have overused the medication. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually and monitor you carefully during this time. You may develop severe depression and extreme tiredness if you suddenly stop taking dextroamphetamine and amphetamine after overusing it.

Do not sell, give away, or let anyone else take your medication. Selling or giving away dextroamphetamine and amphetamine may harm others and is against the law. Store dextroamphetamine and amphetamine in a safe place so that no one else can take it accidentally or on purpose. Keep track of how many tablets or capsules are left so you will know if any are missing.

Your doctor or pharmacist will give you the manufacturer's patient information sheet (Medication Guide) when you begin treatment with dextroamphetamine and amphetamine and each time you get more medication. Read the information carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions. You can also visit the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website () or the manufacturer's website to obtain the Medication Guide.

funny, don't see one damn thing about this being for weight loss. Quit trying drugs how they aren't meant to be used and start watching what you eat and exercising. It's not rocket science.

Damn posts like this piss me off because you want to take something that is CLEARLY not for weight loss just because you want a short cut.

The whole point of this thread was to see if anyone else was using this for weight loss. My doctor prescribed me the medication a little less than a month ago and I've noticed that it has actually helped me. I feel that it keeps me motivated and suppresses my hunger through-out the day. In the time period of which I have been taking adderal, I've lost around 15lbs.

It's not that I want a short-cut, it actually helps me. I asked if anyone else was using adderal, not to list all the side-effects that I already knew existed and pretty much call me a drug user ("Quit trying drugs how they aren't meant to be used").

Has anyone else tried this and has seen a positive effect?

You are telling me your doctor gave you that for weight loss?

Your doctor needs to be reported then.

Adderal works similar to ecstasty and other drugs - it suppresses your appetite. It's not healthy, it's not good for you, and while it might be a 'nice' side effect from taking the stuff, there is a good chance you'll get that weight back quickly once you're taken off the Adderal.

Naming this thread the way you did is rather dangerous. It's the same as saying 'Using acid or ecstasy as a weight loss supplement'. You didn't mention talking about weight loss as a side effect in your first post either, you clearly talked about using Adderal as a weight loss supplement.

I know many people are against taking different kinds of weight loss supplements but I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this and if so, what did you feel like and how did it turn out?

You clearly mentioned using a prescribed drug not intended for weight loss as a weight loss supplement. That's why you got the response you got, and it was perfectly justified as well.

AI went to a weight loss clinic a few years ago and was also prescribed adderal. Me being the type I am I believed of the dr gave it to me it must be ok. I took it for 30 days and lost a total of about 15lbs. I was also given a diet and exercise program to follow. My problems were after about 2 1/2 weeks the effects of the adderal (energy, decreased appetite, elevated mood) suddenly wore off. I spent $300 for the dr visits plus the cost of the " prescription adderal" I told the dr how I was feeling and she tried to put me on other drugs. However I choose not to continue with that clinics program because they seemed very "drug happy" after I quit taking the adderal I of course gained the weight back + more. I am now heavier than ever and still trying to lose weight. Basically the point of this long post is. I took it I developed an immunity to the weight loss effects very quickly and just felt like crap afterwards. Not saying it was a bad idea but also not saying it was a good idea. I just know that after trying it for a month I decided I wasn't comfortable with it. Maybe one day I will find the correct combination of diet/exercise I just know now that this one wasn't it. Oh also in case anyone was wondering I had a full blood work up done before and after the adderal and didn't see any difference either bad or good with any of my test results. Also had EKG preformed both before and after and also no difference. Just wanted to put my little experience out there. Also I have found out its not all uncomon for drs to prescribe adderal for weight loss. I think it was rather rude to treat the op like an idiot for following drs. Orders.

It had nothing to do with 'treating the OP like an idiot for following doctor's orders'. Nobody treated him/her like an idiot.

The OP asked about using a drug that is not intended for weight loss for that purpose. Adderal is not a weight loss supplement. Using, or prescribing the stuff as such, is dangerous at best. Also, the title of the thread was 'Adderal as a weight loss supplement', clearly indicating that the OP is well aware that the stuff is, in fact, NOT a weight loss supplement, and shouldn't be used as such.

In addition, and this is just a personal opinion, following doctor's orders is one thing. Not checking what a medicine I am prescribed is actually for is another. I do sit down and read the leaflet, and do my homework on any kind of medication I have to take, no matter if prescribed or not. IF my doctor was to prescribe me something for weight loss (which she wouldn't, but that's besides the point), I would make sure that I know what I am taking. And if that happened to be a drug that is clearly not intended for weight loss, I would go back and ask my doctor if she lost her bloody mind.

Then again...that's just me.

AThere are literally thousands of drugs that are prescribed every day for various reasons that were not their original design. I also feel that the Dr who I was always told had my best in mind( I have changed this belief now) I also had the thought that I personally did not spend almost a decade in school to learn how to diagnose and treat different ailments so who am I to say the dr is giving out the wrong medication. With that being said the rude part I was referring to was Jericho saying how posts like that piss him off when people are only looking for a short cut. I know I personally never thought I would be prescribed any type of pill when I went to the weight loss clinic. I was not looking for a short cut I was looking for the best way for me personally to lose weight safely under a drs care which is so often recommended.
