Adam's not so usual JOURNAL!!!

Adam, I think it's great you are noticing your weaknesses in your meals and working to improve them. This is what it's all about. Arming yourself with knowledge and making changes!! Way to go!

I'm sure you'll be in the 230's in no time.

thx! you were right :)

well done for your loss. keep up the working out and you reach onederland very quickly :)
i think eating at regular intervalsthroughout the day must be kicking your metabolism into action too.
have a nice day x

sophie: thanks for the kind words

Today, I woke up about 815, and ate a bowl of cereal (smart start....probably won't buy it again, i didn't know it contained high fructose corn syrup) and 1% milk (trying to ween myself to skim).

I ate half a banana for a midway snack, then I finished eating the chinise food from last nite ( :( ). Then, I met with some friends to play tennis. Right before the game, I ate a granola bar for a little boost of energy. We played for about 2 hours, off and on, and afterwards, I ate a whole banana. After that, we chilled a little bit, and then my friend and I hit the gym. I did about 30 min of upper body weight lifting and 45 min of cardio (i fell and hurt my knee/elbow during tennis, so i was sore :(

Then I came home, and had 2 whole wheat rolls, with grill chicken, lettuce and tomato. It was a new dish i came up with and it tasted EXCELLENT :).

So, I think i did ok for today. One thing that bothered me though...which is kinda a long story...

When my friend and I finished at the gym, we came out and I started to drive to drop him off at his house. While doing so, he told me something very confidential...and a bit shocking...It turns out when of my friends I knew from high school (who was also very large and lost about 150 lbs...one of my motivations to work out) was talking about me behind my back :(.

Saying how I am not losing weight, and how I am trying to keep up with his routine. Lemme if you a little bit of background: he goes on the eliptical machine, and does about 30 min at a very comforting pace to his liking. I get right next to him, talk to him a little bit, but I put it up to a high resistance (turned out to be the same as him) and started working my butt off to get my HR up. Also, I joked around with him with his rowing machine technique (i just wanted to show him proper techinique)

but now, i hear he's saying that i'm trying to keep up with him and out do him, and how i'm not losing any weight (and he made an arm expression indicating that my face was bloated. when i heard this, i felt indifferent; he was a good friend, who i would hang out at the gym, and i even joked around that he could be a personal trainer. nice guy, who i would chat with a lot, and always complimenting me i was losing weight...and to say such things behind my back.....i dunno...just venting you know. but, like i said, i didn't feel angry, or sad....just...wierd

So today, i woke up about 845, so i had a bowl of cereral (1% fat milk) at around 9am. At about 12am I ate a banana. Chilled at home around that time, talking with the family.

We went out to the flea market around lunch time, and I ate another one of my home mades grill chicken sandwiches with whole wheat bread, tomatoes and lettuce (yum!). AFter the flea market, around 4ish, I had a granola bar, then hit the gym for 45 min of cardio and 10 min of streching. Came home from the gym, around 515 and ate some grapes (yeah, i'm eatting a sh!t ton of food).

I plan to have some taco salad for dinner (i know, red meat...but of course i'm gonna load up on lettice and tomato! and a little bit of cheese)

No plans for tonite (i know, 20 years old and stuck at home), but hopefully, i can get something going.

tomorrow, is my first day at volunteering at the hospital. i'll be delivering newspapers and apprxoimately walking 2.5 miles (along with my cardio at the gym...and i also plan to play racquet ball tommorrow :D) so it should be a great day!

to recap:

9:00am: Bowl of cereal w/ 1% milk
12:00am: 1 whole banana
2:00am: Whole wheat grill chicken sandwich with tomato and lettuce
4:00am: granola bar
5:45am:grapes
Plan to eat for dinner: taco salad, lots of lettuce and tomato!!!

2 fruits
2 dairy (if you count cheese with taco salad)
2 meats
2 vegges
4 carbs

Not bad...not bad at all

Adam, it sound's like you did really well. One small thing you might try, if there's a good bakery near you, is substituting whole grain for whole wheat bread. Whole grain is much better for you because of the fiber.

Have a great weekend!

m2m: thanks for the kind words, i hope your weekend goes good as well

tom: i never even thought of this, i'll look into it

So, I just came back from my jog, this time, i jogged the whole time (except for warm up and cool down) which was FANTASTIC! i jogged at a slow, steady pace, and it felt good. normally, i would have to walk/jog, but it felt really good. (the leg chaffing is almost gone...and once that is gone, i can jog forever!!!)

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention something. i switched out my granola bars. i used to buy wal mart great value's brand, but i think i heard something about the kashi bars instead - being more natural. i picked some up, and it is another improvement to my diet :). I haven't tasted one yet, but it should be good

Well, today i guessed i pigged out.

For breakfast, i ate a bowl of cereal, then ran to the hospitail to start volunteering, which was ok. Did some exercise with walking, and in between, ate a granola bar.

I came home at about 11 and ate a banana and at 1, i had more taco salad (it looks like we have a ton left over...and i'm the only one eating it, so i'm probably gonna be eating it all week).

afterwards, i ran to the gym, and played raqetball with my friend for about 2 hours. I came home, ate some soup, and my mom baked some cookies, grr! Well, i licked the spoon she used used to mix th cookies and ate 2 cookies, heh. Tonite, I plan eat some grapes and thats it. My knees/joints are a little sore, so no exercise tonite, it looks like.

So, to sum up

7:20: Bowl of cereal with 1% milk
9:20: granola bar
11:00: banana
1:00 taco salad (lots of tomato and lettuce!!!)
5:00 Soup (potatos, plantains, beef, pasta, etc), 2 chocolate chip cookies, and some apple sauce
7-8:00ish grapes

and wow, it felt like i ate too much today...so i'll call today my cheat day...oh, and i'll start counting calories soon...and start recording, how long i work out, and how much calories i burn....and how much fiber i am eating, etc...eventually

I had a great nite sleep. My body was really sore, so, like I said, I didn't do my usual late nite jog. I woke up, and my body felt better, it was still a little sore, but it has healed up (so maybe, I can jog today!!!)

Nothing out of the ordinary today, been really commited

ok, this is what I ate today:

930am: Bowl of cereal with 1% milk
11:00: Kashi granola bar (only ate 1 bar)
12:30: banana
2:00: Lunch, Fried Rice
Baked Pork Chop
Corn Pie
Steam veggies (broccoli, carrots and califlower)
Crushed plantains
Huge helping of salad
530-540: Grapes

Water consumed so far: 44 oz. Plan to drink another 20 oz (in addition) to my time at the gym.

I have class tonite from 6-830ish, then I plan to hit the gym, get home, and eat some taco salad (lol, i have a ton left, and i hate wasting food)

Overall, 6 meals today, it looks like, and a huge lunch, but I am doing well...i hope...and oh god...i may eat another one of my mom's cookies, but i must resist!!

Its been over a week since I wrote in here. Been under a lot of stress with exams and such, but now the semester is over! (don't worry, I still had time to go to the gym and eat right).

I am now going to make a solid attempt to count calories, my water intake, and my excercises/calories burned.

So far today:

(i will edit daily, so I can keep track better)...(like my new format :D )

I did some hard core HITT about 2 days ago around my neighborhood. I did a a warm up walk. Then I did intervals consisting of 30 seconds, for me for running as fast and as hard as I could, followed by a minute and a half of walking. I did approximately 8-10 sets.

I didn't feel dizzy, but I had tightness in my chest. And it felt like I couldn't get enough air to my lungs. Now today, 2 days later, I'm still sore (joints, and such...and suprisingly my abs). Yesterday, I played some light tennis, and not sure what I am going to do today, but I know it will be light cardio.

I've also started a little database where I can store my meals. So, if I eat the same meal, I can just look in the database and get the calories easy. I hate the thought of calorie counting, so I am trying to make the transition as easy as possible.

lunch edit: well, we order chinise for lunch, grrr.

I am some fry rice and chicken and an egg rolls. I have abound 520 calories left for the day.

I will probably eat a kashi granolar bar before i work out (140 calorie), which would leave 380 calories for dinner. Heh, very light dinner ;)

Edit: unbelievable, i made my goals with calories right on the dot (some approximations though...steak and shake website didn't offer the chicken sandwich nutrition information on whole wheat bread...they only offered the regular bread to 396...so rounded down to 380).

My body (especially my shins :() were still sore from HITT, so some light raquetball. Overall, I think I ate pretty good...just wish I coulda work in another fruit, but the chinise food was such a surplus, i couldn't fit in. overall, good day.

sometimes i get a tight chest when doing HIIT too. it usually means that a)the air is cold or b) i havent warmed up sufficiently.
make sure you stretch straight after the HIIT even if youre tired to avoid the DOMS youre experiencing.
have fun doing cardio :)

Hi Adam. HIIT can be very taxing on the body, especially if you're not used to it. Have you done interval cardio before? If not, you might want to do some of that first.

I bought the FitDay PC program for $20 to keep track of both my exercise and my food. I think it's worth every penny.

2nd day on my journey. and I have given up with cardio for today. i need to learn when enough is enough, and my body is to sore, and i'll have my first *official* rest day today, the first in like 3 months.

320pm: so, i have 310 calories to consume before the end of the night. I will probably have a grill chicken wrap salad for dinner, which is about that.

I am leaving now to go to a funeral. one of my friends mom was a long term fighter with cancer, and she has finally moved on :/

dinner update: so i made a dinner wrap for dinner..ended up with a 70 calorie surplus, which isn't bad. damn, i wanted to work out so badly today but my body is sore. rest days are hell

Adam, I would take a rest day at least once a week. I take one every 4 days. It's important to give your body time to catch up and recover.

Sophie, the FitDay program you download is much more flexible for me. I do most of the cooking in our household, and I have about 50 basic recipes that I make over and over again. In the PC program, you can create a single entry that has all the individual ingredients, and once you do that, you simply post the dish as a whole. It saves a huge amount of time, especially with things like "seafood stew," which has 20 or so ingredients.

The program also has a diary section, a place where you can keep track of your weight and body measurements, and a whole bunch of other stuff. For $20, it's a real bargain.

Tom: i know, i know...but, if I feel up to it, why should I rest, you know? But i'm not stupid...if i feel my body is under stress...of course I will take a break. But thanks for looking out for me, i appreciate it :)

Today, volunteered by walking and delivering newspapers (but I wouldn't count that walking for exercising)

I met up with a friend afterwards and played some tennis and raquetball. It was bloody hot outside, we didn't play that intensely. Afterwards, we were gonna hit up the beach, but it rained instead, so we ate some food.

I think i am going to have a moderate snack before I go to bed tonite, probably either a fruit or a vegetable (or both hopefully!).

Also, will probably jog tonite. I gave myself a rest day and now I feel pumped.

May 2 lbs a week challange is tomorrow, and i'm a little nervous. I've been drinking a ton of water, but I haven't been urinating or sweating as much as i used too, so i think i will have a ton of water weight on. Meh, at least i'm healhty i guess.

Well, in the evevning, I went on an awesome job. it was so nice and cool outside. and it was a slight drizzle. I felt so cool and refreshed and jogged for like 45 min straight. When I got home, i wasn't that hungry so i had some carrots (need veggies, yay!) and an orange. i'm sleepy now, so i'm gonna hit it. good night all

i'd reccommend one rest day per week to give the torn muslce fibres time to repair. improvement can become negative if you dont give your body time to recover - muscle mass can be lost. look it up on the net - theres some interesting articles :)
