Adam's not so usual JOURNAL!!!

Adam, your BP is perhaps the most important number of all. If you're at all prone to high BP, try to get it checked regularly. Men especially tend to ignore their BP, which is one of the reasons so many of them die of heart attacks.

Yay! My blood pressure was 124/82, which i was so happy about. I weighed at the clinic - offically, 232 lbs! (bah, my scale must be off....well, come to think about it, i went there after i ate lunch...) :) He complimented me on my weight loss and told me I was doign excellent.

He told me to keep it up. My resting pulse rate is 60, so I don't know how good that is (i hope its good). I had some blood work done, and he's gonna tell me how my blood sugar is looking....

Overall, I am really happy. everythign checked out ;) He gave me a script though, I had these bumps on the back of my neck, that has been giving me trouble. Hopefully, with these, i can get rid of them :)

Steve: Still exploring, but I am particularly interested in that field

Jermey: thanks for the kind words

Tom: You are telling me. When my aunt used this little machine on me, and she told me i had high blood pressure, i just laughed and said it was a piece of junk. but then when the doc told me, i took it as no joke. i'm so glad its down...i don't even need any prescriptions!

Hey Adam,

First of all I want to thank you for having me in your thoughts yesterday. I really appreciate it! I'm doing ok today, but yesterday after the freezing wore off really sucked! I'm tired today due to not sleeping too well, but at least I slept some. Again, thank you!

I'm so glad you're feeling much better about the whole school/money/job thing! I'm glad you have it figured out. I think you'll be fine! When I was in nursing (which I quit, which I regret but anyways) I lived at home and didn't have a job, but I had to do a lot of courses and it was nuts, so I'm glad I didn't have work to deal with. However, 2 classes and a job is totally doable. If you can afford only working part-time, go for it. However working full time will help you save up money for whatever. So it's up to you which you'd prefer, either way you'll be able to handle the schooling!

I'm so glad your tests went well. You're BP is awesome and so is your resting heart rate! You're doing so much good for your body it's just great. Keep up the awesome work!

Adam, fantastic news about the bp! I know what a relief it was for me when my bp got into line. Not only that, but your real bp is probably even lower than that, since people typically have a bit of "white coat syndrome" in the doc's office.

Resting pulse of 60 is perfectly normal.

When you get your fasting blood sugar reading back, as long as you're under 100, you should be fine.

The scale at the doc's office, where you are weighed in the middle of the day with all your clothes on, is bound to be 4 or 5 lbs. higher than yours at home.

Congratulations.

As you get in better and better shape, expect your bp and resting pulse to go down even more. My bp last October was 145/95. Yesterday, my reading was 109/64. Some of that is due to weight loss, some due to diet, and some to interval training.

risty: Thanks for checking in on me. Yeah, kind of a last minute change. I always wanted to do med...its just I had low self esteem, and I thought I would never suceed. Now that I'm gaining my confidence back, I'm going to pursue it and see what happen, heh. I only took two pre-reqs course (biology and chem, a's in both :D), but I still have a lot of courses to do (and plenty of mind to change my mind :p).

And don't talk about accounting, that turned me off of business, I got C's in financial and mangerial.

tomo: I was so glad to hear about the BP as well. I was a little tense when they went to go test it, but so glad it went well. And i was a little shocked tom, because I thought I needed to submit a FASTED sample, but the nurse said that i didn't have to fast...which I thought was a little acward, so we'll see.

Tomorrow, I have my bio2 class (yay), from 9am-4pm. Looking forward to a wonderful day. :drooling:

I know exactly what you mean. When I was in nursing I didn't have confidence in myself and that's the real reason why I quit I know that now. One day I think I'll go back into it. I'll work at this job for a while and save up money so I can go back to school whether it's for nursing or for something else. I love the medical field too much to stop just at being a receptionist in medical office. I feel like I have a lot of talent and I'm smart and I want to do something more than just that ya know? I LOVE learning, absolutely love it, if I could go to school forever I so would! I know, sounds weird, but whatever!

I'm glad you're getting the confidence back. I'm sure you'll do awesome seeing as you already got A's in bio and chem :) I hope that you'll find the right path for you!

Long, long day, bio2 class, heh.

For lunch, had half a quizno's sub on wheat bread. Strange, I had such a hard time finding the nutrition information, they didn't even offer it on their website! And talk about expensive (that meal, cost my friend and I 11 dollars) so i don't think i'm eating there in a hurry.

190 calories left for the day :(. And I have some strength training to do on my legs. We'll see...

Risty: I hope you the very best that you'll be able to save up some money and go to school. You are such a great person, and with your personality, you would be an absolute wondeful nurse. One of my friends is also going into nursing school (after that, she says she's gonna get her MD...she's a little nuts...), but we are both supporting each other, and helping each other too.

I love learning as well, learning more stuff, makes you feel smart. I particularly enjoy biology...not a big fan of chemistry though. :drooling:

I knew it was unwise to begin with, but I thought I would try to do HITT and lower body training on the same day. I thought it was a very effective and practical approach, but boy was I wrong. On the first spring, my hamstrings started to burn and I screwed up my left calf. I attempted to jog, and then decided it wasn't a good idea, since I was feeling a little discomfort in my legs.

I took me such a long time to figure out, but I don't think its a good idea to do HITT or strenous (sp?) cardio (especially jogging) on days I do lower body weight lifting. This is how I think I screwed up my leg the first time...

Also, I may have to experiment on a new way to work out my calves, or not work them out at all. I find my left calf is giving me a lot of discomforting pain which isn't associated with the usual "muscle burn". We will see...but I have to make sure I am doing the right techinque. (i use one of those things you sit on at the gym, and I go up and down on my toes).

Also, I need to research, but maybe I can get away with doing HITT (using jogging) as a source of lower body resistance training. The first time I did HITT, my lower body was sore for the next few days (which is strange, because I work on lower body at the most, twice a week). Perhaps, my weight plays a factor, which turns the training into a more anaerobic work out. We'll see.

Well, I still feel dumb trying to do so much to my legs. I thought my body could with stand it...the mind in the back of my voice told me it was a bad idea, but meh, I am a stubborn mule! LOL, hopefully, my legs feel better tomorrow.

LOL, HIIT is very taxing to your body, as you're discovering! I never do HIIT on the same day as weight training. In fact, the day after weight training, I typically do steady state cardio only, just to give my legs time to recover.

If there's one thing Coach Steve has drilled into my head, it's the concept of managing fatigue. If you don't do that, you just end up eating away at your lean muscle mass instead of your fat.

Tom: yeah, the last thing I wanna do is lose LMM!

Today, ran outta skim milk, and my mom only buys the 2% milk. So i mixed it with water and i'm hoping it can be a substiute with skim milk (strange, it tasted sweeter then the skim milk...)

Didn't make it to the gym in time today (they close at 5) so I will do some walking (no jogging) around the neighboorhood. No plans so far for tonite.

Been pretty good with the eating, i have 380 calories left :). And right now, i'm so full from the subs.

The hospital called back. they said the blood sample was perfect.

I am going out for a jog tonite ;) (i'm stubborn, i know)

Home depot called me for a job interview, but grr! i wanna get a job at the hospital. We'll see...i'll see what home depot has to say, but my dream job is in the hospital

Tom: thanks

I ended up walking, my calf was still bothering me.

I am gonna stop doing calf work out for a ways and re-evaulate my lower body weight lifting techinques. Upper body is good for me, but lower is hard to work out.

Had some soup and cookies for dinner. 100 calories over...but tonight I had a ton of temptation, i dunno why.

I held through though, by drinking a ton of water.

MoM: i try, thank you :)

Has an AWESOME breakfast ( no cereal crap) and a light lunch. And i'm full...very full.

I will probably end the day by having a snack (300-400 calories) and dinner (500-400 cal). I will definitely hit the gym today and do about an hour of cardio...they close at 4, so i'll head over there around 3. Will probably do some streches, ab work, and i'll hangout in the hot tub :)

I am gonna stop doing calf work out for a ways and re-evaulate my lower body weight lifting techinques. Upper body is good for me, but lower is hard to work out.

I find squats and deadlifts do just about everything I need for the lower body, without initiating too much fatigue.

tom: serious, just deadlfits and squats....hmmph

I've been doign though, and leg curls (anterior thighs), and prone leg curls (posterior thighs) and the calf raises.

If those 2 exercises can just my legs, i will save a ton of time, and i can focus more time on cardio. Thanks for the advice :)

Well, today i hit 1770, which was awesome. Went out today with my uncle and mom...on the way, they stopped by coldstone ice cream. And i honestly didnt' feel like ice cream; i didn't want it! They kept bugging me and i told them i was good. Had some soup came home, and i am pretty good for the nite! :)

Why am i so weak minded!!!!

 Grrr! I have a confession to make :(

When I started to drop the weight (after dropping about 20 lbs) my friend talked me into taking pills. Grrr...I wanna drop them, but I paid $35 for the shit and i dont' want to use them...but since I paid the money, i dont' want to waste them. and I have a 3 months supply

Looking now, my friend pops these pills about 2-3 times a day, and he told me he hit a plateau at 170 lbs, for a few months nowGrrr...why did i have to be weak minded and start taking pills AFTER i loss a sigificant amount of weights. Worse...some of the pills contain ephederine..which is really bad for my health, but i already put out the money! jeez....:(

I never smoked or drunk in my life...and this is the most bizaare thing i've done in my life...

I had to get this out...go ahead and flame me and what not. after the pills run out, i will never buy any "weight loss" pills again. Its stupid and a waste of money

/sigh...i feel so bad..and i had to get that out

This will probably ruin some of my reputation and crediblity on this site :(

lesson here: do not fall to peer pressure with your friends

Adam, throw the pills out. You know you don't need them, and if they have ephedrine in them, why take the risk?

We all make mistakes. This is quite minor compared to the doozies I've made in my years!

I am not sure how bad those pills are (will google n check later) but u don't have to finish them right? Since u think it's wrong to take it. Your health is more impt than the $35.:hug2:

Grr..I know I shoudl throw them out, the crappy part of it that I basically wasted $35.

Hmmph...I guess $35 is well spent for lesson earned, then a $3500 hospital bill.
