acne :(

how in the world do i get rid of the stuff? i used clearasil but then i stopped using it and theyre back! (though they werent even completely gone) its not my eating habits, i normally never eat candy or anything unhealthy like that... i mean i use regular soap and hot water a couple times a day and it holds it in check but barely... my mom said shes gonna get me some proactiv solution... but i dont want to have to keep buying that stuff its like $40 for the smallest kit they sell lol

theirs accutane, i've known five or six people who've used it and it worked for everyone. IMO just keep up with the clearasil and when you get older it'll stop.

I used Accutane and it worked well for me but the potential side effects are really severe so I'd avoid using it unless as a last resort. I also doubt you can use it until you're an adult anyway.

I'm sure a doctor can prescribe anti bacterial drugs which work on a lot of people

Try other over the counter solutions.

I have a similar problem that I'm starting to have isolated breakouts due to the workouts. Look here:

Also Neutrogena was recommended as a cheaper solution.

What brand of soap are you using? My husband had really bad acme when in high school. He said that his parents bought cheap soap (Jergens, Zest or whatever was on sale), and he had severe acme. Once he switched to Irory, it cleared up. Its worth a try.

Loads of water ,fresh juices, and lowfat diet is all u need
but it stops after u are 20 something
and stay away from sun and dust too

I tried accutane many years ago and had to stop from the severe sides I got.

As your dermatologist about Doxycycline.

I think I've taken every prescription except for Doxycycline.

Eurythromycin
Tetracycline
Monocyline
Cephalexin
something else....

plus Retin-A gel and a Benzomycin topical cream.

in the end, Accutane did it for me. I had to get on Blue Cross for the insurance coverage since 4month treatment of accutane averages $1,500 between the meds and the monthly blood test, plus a monthly checkup to discuss my blood work.

like LV, in the end I couldn't finsih a full treatment. my side effect was high triglycerides. Normal levels are Less than 150 mg/dL. Very high is 500 mg/dL or more.
my last blood test while on accutane (at the 3 month mark) was pushing 1000mg/dL. The doctor called every contact number in my patient file (I was in college in class) and eventualy got my mom 200miles away, who called the student newspaper wehre I worked, and they got me the message later that day.

everything went back to normal after i stopped taking the stuff, and thankfully, it DID clear up 98% of my acne. I had real painful, cystic acne that wouldn't form a head. they'd last a month or two, and sometimes leave scars.

now i get the occasional zit, like a normal person would.

accutane is the 'last ditch effort'. see a dermatologist. pro active might work, but stuff like tetracylcline and eurythromycin aren't expensive, especially with prescription co-pay.

I've been using Proactiv and It has worked for me. I used to have horrible acne. My doctor told me I can get teh same products for cheaper in the store though...Benzoilperoxide solutions, I think. I never really break out anymore, except when I forget to wash my face a few days in a row. I used to break out after I did squats all the time, idk why though.

I've tried every cream known to man, and proactive, and all of the anitbiotics malkore mentioned - including doxycycline. The accutane is a last resort, and it does work for the vast majority of people, I've had good results with it so far and luckily my blood has been fine. It's unluckily that your doctor will prescribe it to you unless your acne is severe (severe nodular acne), the doc will likely prescibe some creams, lotions, and maybe antibiotics first if you haven't tried them already.

I just wrote this, I also have a personal documented report of my face progression with pictures of the results with personal diary. With my research on myself and two people following this of completely different diagnosed skin types this has worked. So maybe this can help some with acne problems.

Information in regards to reducing and eliminating acne problems.

There are really only two major causes of acne. Hormones and Irritation. Hormone imbalances if on a extreme level (which is rare) can really only be treated with medications. However for most of the population simple changes in diet and body maintenance can result in extreme reduction or near elimination of acne.

What is acne? In short its blocked/irritated follicles (pores). Sebum (the bodies oils) that seep out the skin have no place to go due to this blockage and there for cause a bacteria to grow in form of microcomedone and this produces whiteheads and blackheads. At random rates this will progress into various kinds of acne (Papules, Pustules, Nodules, and Cysts). Depending on the severe nature of your acne is how long it may take to recover from it or just to what degree you can lessen it without the aid of more advance treatments. There are some advanced treatments that do work and are safe, however before we go into those I recommend a 6 week trial period of this program to see what kind of achievement you can make on your own and to maintain. Treating acne and your skin is a lifelong journey and while yes maybe you can get a somewhat quick fix through cosmetic treatments if you don’t know how to take care of your skin properly Its just going to keep coming back.

First you need to evaluate nutrient intake and diet. There are different kinds of acne with different causes. However all acne starts as a point of bacteria that infects the body. If we build up the strength our body has to fight off that bacterium, we in turn help lower our chance for it to start in the first place. Lack of needed calories, to much saturated or trans fats and high processed sugars (high fructose corn syrup and white sugar) can lower your bodies defense. It starts with signs of acne, puffy eyes, dry skin and overtime will lead to serious medical conditions. So the quickest way to jump start better skin is to take in better foods and enough of them.

Food-Lean proteins, good complex carbohydrates and essential fatty acids are the base laying ground of a good diet. This of course is a very broad and heavy subject. It would turn this into a book to go into massive detail however I recommend doing some research in this area on your own. Watch dairy and whey products in general as intolerance to these products can sometimes lead to breakout in certain individuals.
Suggested reading-"The Complete Book of Food Counts" by Corinne Netzer, Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill" by Udo Erasmus, and for engaging in fitness lifestyle, Nancy Clark's Sports Nutrition Guidebook" by Nancy Clark.

Supplements- There is some general supplements that everyone can benefit from here. However this is a supplement layout that is specific towards healing and controlling acne. At the end of this there will be a shopping list that throws everything together for ease.

Vitamin C-Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins you can take for acne. Its an antioxidant, immune builder, and part of over 300 metabolic functions of the body. It also helps in repair and re-growth of tissue. It’s a logical assumption to relate it to acne as we know when we are about to get sick the first we are told is “get in your vitamin c”. Being a champion bacteria fighter, you can’t go wrong with this in your arsenal. However there can be to much of a good thing, so don’t overdo it. 1000 mg twice a day should suffice. If you have heard of accutane and the amazing results it has you should know that really it’s the same as an overdose of Vitamin C. However, Accutane is a very dangerous drug and in my opinion should only be used as a last result for very extreme cases as it cause severe problems even as extreme as depression leading to suicide. So don’t go around popping Vitamin C left and right. 2000 mg is plenty.

Fish oil-Omega-3 fatty acids have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. They maintain healthy cell membranes and ensure the normal transport of nutrients into cells. For those reasons, a supplement of omega-3 fats is one of the most important nutrients for acne. Take one tablespoon of fish oil each day. The easiest way is to blend a smoothie with fruit, yogurt or milk. Add a scoop of protein powder (soy or whey powder) to boost protein intake as well. For those people who find it difficult to use, take capsules of concentrated fish oil (though the liquid is more potent).

Green Tea-Green tea is becoming the end all to be all fix for a lot of things. Suffice to say it’s really “in” right now. However it really is just an awesome additive to your diet. Several studies have shown not only green teas effect again rosacea but also even severe cyst acne. Again its those great antibodies and antioxidants as well as the natural safe source of caffeine. The anti-aging agents don’t hurt either. So drink up or get a green tea extract capsule. I suggest two servings a day.

I know what your thinking, “how many pills you want me to take in a day?!” But really this is just a kind of jump start, as time goes on and your diet is perfected the need for these is less cause you will acquire most of what you need form your diet (vitamin c from various vegetables and fruits, fatty acids from fish and so forth) However for right now in the beginning of this and for quicker results the supplementation is the way to go.

Topical solutions
- This is a list of topical solutions and cleansers to use for outer treatment of your skin and killing the bacteria.

Cetaphil Antibacterial Soap-This soap is really quite magical. No it doesn’t matter if you have oily and dry skin, and in general for the record that really doesn’t have much to do with acne treatment. However it is for sensitive skin and has no fragrance or unnecessary agents to cause irritation which is exactly what any acne prone person needs. It’s 3 bucks and worth every penny and then some. Use it twice a day (once in morning, once at night) You can also use it in the middle of the day if are taking off makeup before putting new back on. Rinse face with fairly warm water, lather, work it into face and neck, rinse well, then pat dry with clean cloth. Do not rub your face dry, pat.

Tea tree oil-After washing your face on blemish areas use a q-tip and spot tea tree oil on each blemish. It doesn’t take much, don’t soak your face. It has powerful anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral quality and a little vial will go a long, long way.

Queen Helene Honey and Vitamin C Peel- This is pure wholesome honey to help replace lost moisture, together with the antioxidant benefits of Vitamin C, in an easy to use peel off masque. Use only twice a week, this is very important, over use of this product could irritate your skin, but proper use will show great results. Again this is a cheap, but amazing product.

Moisturizer-Now this is more of a person to person selection as well as men and women have different moisturizing needs. However here is what to look for when getting one and how much to use. We use a moisturizer to not only keep are skin from being dry or negatively oily, but to protect it from foreign bacteria. You want a fragrance free, good SPF, and sensitive skin happy moisturizer.
Recommended ones to use-Neutrogena Healthy Skin® Face Lotion for Sensitive Skin SPF 15; Neutrogena Visibly Firm® Night Cream; Cetaphil® Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15

How to use: Okay a lot of people get really out of hand with these, even the amount suggested is just a little to much sometimes. Basically after you wash your face and put tea tree oil on spots here is what to do. Squeeze or pump a few tiny (small bead size) drops on the end tips of your fingers. Rub in on your hands and then light rub/pat (almost aftershave like) onto your face and neck/jaw line. Over using this stuff can lead to breaking out. Basically you just want a protective layer for your skin, not a cream mask. So go easy, if your face is greasy or heavy after use, you used to much. You should really be able to feel it much on your face.

Okay so now that we have that stuff out of the way here is a very important section that will really make a huge difference. Add these things to the above and big results will follow.

Water-Yeah yeah you know 8 glasses a day. No. If you aren’t drinking a gallon of water a day then you can’t roll your eyes at me. Hydration is seriously important to your skin. If your urine isn’t clear, you aren’t getting enough. Note that for the first few weeks you will be running to the bathroom all the time and have some bloat. This is because your body isn’t use to the hydration, however it will get used to it and your bathroom breaks will lessen and you will hardly ever be bloated or have water weight again. 85% of Americans don’t drink enough water, so put yourself in that 15% category.

Makeup
-If you must use it, use it lightly and only use natural powders and foundations. So Origins or bare minerals should be your new best friends. And get it off the moment you no longer need it.

Extreme Clean-Basically what this means is being over sensitive to how clean things are for a little while. I am not saying develop OCD. But if you get acne (more than a pimple here or there) then it means you are more sensitve to your surrounding then some. So keep a pretty clean house and home. Get some antibacterial soap or liquid gel and use it after eating or doing something a little cruddy. It makes a big difference as you touch your face a lot without meaning to. You should do that as little as possible, but at least this way if you do, your hands will be clean.

Working out-If you participate In frequent exercise or sweat a lot in general you need to make sure to wash your face or use a antibacterial wipe immediately afterwards. Sweat is a huge cause of irritation and inflaming for acne so decreasing this negative effect will keep the acne at bay.

Sleeping-Yes you need proper rest and it is important. However this is about more than sleep. When you sleep at night most of use don’t just lay straight on our backs and never move. We toss, we turn, we bury our heads in pillows, we sleep with our hands under our face, touch our face, you get the picture. This is the main reason why we wake up looking worse then we went to bed. So take these steps to lessen the problem.
-Wash your hands right before you go to bed
-Have a clean face and body pre-sleep
-Change/clean your blankets (once a week) and pillow case (every other day) –I know what you are thinking, are you crazy I can’t wash that much!? Well every night you sweat, you unleash tons of bacteria in your area of sleep. Then you roll around in that bacteria for 6-8 hours. If getting rid of the acne means that much to you, then this should not be a problem. I just bought a few more pillow cases and did a weekly wash of blanket with cases and was good to go.
-Wear a bandana when sleeping (male or female)-You don’t have to have long hair for it to rub that oil all over your pillow and then all over your face. So keep your hair wrapped up as possible to prevent un-needed oil on your face.

THE EMERCENCY I POPPED A PIMPLE FIX!
Never pop a pimple, never. However if you did or if it popped on its own somehow (which does happed) and you have a massive gash and are afraid of scaring then this is the fix/help.
-Clean with q-tip the area real well (but gently) with hydrogen peroxide.
-let that sit for a min
-then apply some tea tree oil directly to the spot by patting it on with a soft tissue.
-then apply the antibiotic CREAM based Neosporin in the smallest amount dab on the area.
-then apply a little moisturizer as a protective layer.
Repeat this step a few times over the next couple of days. Basically baby it. Give it lost of care and you shouldn’t scar.

Putting this all together
I know this seems like a lot, however if you put this together right no matter how bad your acne is, or how long you have had it, it will change dramatically. I have delt with acne off and on for years. When I started getting hardcore into fitness it got worse than ever. However doing these things, I not only have less/to no acne, I have a healthy glow and amazingly enough tighter skin, some color in my cheeks, and I think the years are going to be kind. And its not just my face either, its also my back and chest, even my leg skin tone is better. Here is a daily step of how to work this program. Trust me it’s a winner.

Morning-
-Wash face/apply tea tree oil on spots/moisturize
(if need apply makeup after this process)
-After breakfast have some green tea and take vitamin C
-Get jug of water ready for days use

Afternoon-
-have another green tea
-Include fish oil at some point either in afternoon or at night
-Keep drinking that water
(if workout wash face right after and re-moisturize only if needed)

Night-
-Take 2nd Vitamin C pill if needed
(twice a week use peel)
-Wash face/apply tea tree oil/night cream
-Make sure fresh sheets and clean sleeping area
-Make sure clean hands and hair is tied back

You should start to see results the first week in how your skin feels and glow overall. The worse your acne, of course the longer it may take. You will notice that less and less new ones will occur. By the end of six weeks you should see amazing results, by the end of 12 weeks, you shouldn’t have much if any acne. This is for life, take care of your skin and it will in turn take care of your looks. It may seem like some hard work, but really its a few mins here and there, and well worth it in the end.
