achilles tendonitis

I developed tendonitis 6 months ago after many years of walking injury free. For the past 6 months I have been unable to do the walking I love, and although I have had physiotherapy, been to a podiatrist and bought my own ultra sound machine I am STILL plagued by it. Anyone got any suggestions? Anyone tried acupuncture for Achiles tendonitis? I have also heard of injections, where they inject growth hormone into the achilles? Anyone know of that? And what is DSMO? Please help, not only am I desperate, my husband is suffering because I am so moody!

doctors are like you and me, they have area's there good at and other areas that have some lacking. my knowledge of tendons are limited, if nothing else see other doctors and see what they have to say, also a natural path M.D might have a few ideas. GL

Thank you for that. I have been thinking of changing physios, so you have given me the nudge I need. I will let you know how it goes.

You have seen a podiatrist, but have you seen an orthopedist? They specialize in bones, joints, etc. Also, get an opinion from an accupuncturist - I certainly don't think it would hurt and it may help!

Thanks for all advice

What I am doing at the moment is complete rest from walking for 3 weeks and using my ultra sound 3 times a day.I have a stationary bike with 11 programmes, boring, but better than nothing! After 3 weeks I will get back to stretching and easy walking, and if things are STILL bad, will sack my present physio, and try a new one+acupuncture, then will head for the bone man! In the meantime any other suggestions will be most welcome!

Lizjh,
Thanks for your reply to my tendinitis issue. Active types hate rest, ice, elevate recommendations, but, they work.

DMSO is a solvent that is used in vet medicine. I was introduced to it many years ago and it was great for solving annual achilles problems of moving from cross-country season to indoor track hard surfaces. I'm using it now and am not clinically trained to tell you its chemical and physical effects.

I have seen the minor sting of tendinitis move toward surgery. That is not good as it means a year off and may further hamper flexibility. ALLTHEBEST!

Thanks Dockerty, Good luck to you too. Let's hope we're both up and active in a couple of months! Cheers.

I had achilles tendonitis a few years ago, on my right foot. I tripped over a metal beam at work when I was carrying something large and heavy with a coworker and walking backwards. It was painful to walk sometimes and I sure cannot do any sports at the time. Any pressure applied to the back of my right foot would cause excruciating pain. As described before, R.I.C.E. is vital. I also tried to balance myself on a dyna disc every time I went to physio. Massage your achilles horizontally every day... it is painful but do it. It works. I had the problem for about 1.5 years until I felt no pain anymore. Good luck!

Thanks for that. I know what you mean about the pain when you touch it! Two weeks off with stretches and intense ultra sound has done me the world of good, there is very little pain there now, but who knows what will happen when I get back to walking. R.I.C.E.will have to be printed on my forehead, I think. I've taken your advice with the horizontal massage as well, I have got to the stage that I will try everything, I miss my walks so much, and it is not doing my weight any favours being sedentary.
