Apologizing in advance for the long post
Hi, the people where I work want to have a friendly weightloss competition where people weight in at the beginning and then each week and then again at the end. There is a $20 buy in and the person who loses the most weight gets the pot. The winner was originaly going to be decided on pounds lost but that obviously wont work since people who weigh more might find it easier to lose more. Then we went with percentage lost based on your starting weight and your ending weight. Then someone suggested buying one of those home body fat percentage calculators they saw in a magizine. We could then take starting body fat and ending body fat and come up with % change. Questions have been raised about fairness and a persons initial weight at the start. Questions have also been raised about whether men and women will lose weight differently.
Does anyone know which is a more fair competition? There are people participating who feel they only need to lose 10-15 pounds and some people who are more than 100 pounds overweight. There are also both men and women participating. Is a straight weight loss percentage fair for both the slightly overweight and the more seriously overweight? Or should we go with the body fat idea. Or is there another way we havnt thought of? Also will it matter that both men and women are participating.
Thank you very much for any insight you can give us.
