Abilor's diary

Wow that was definitely an intense diary to read!

First of all, I'm impressed that you partied so heavily and still made it out of college with respectable grades. I didn't party that much (once a week or less) and I still managed to fail. Well, a lot of other things helped me, such as my crippling depression that had me sleeping 15+ hours a day, but that's another story.

I'm glad that you have decided to take another serious attempt at getting healthy. I can't imagine what a cancer scare would do to your self-esteem and motivation. You're also lucky that you are in such a strong and supportive relationship.

Keep up the good work and attitude. We're here for you.

i forgot to mention this about my childhood relationship with food:

We never kept much real junk food in the house on a daily basis because no one in my family can control themselves around it. I would eat a lot of cereal/crackers as snacks and binges when i was little. Anytime we happened to have junk in the house (i.e. tostitos, my favorite) I would literally think about it all day and just be so excited to get home from school and eat it. I'm still like that, I get really excited when I know there is something tasty at home to eat. It bugs me a bit but oh well.

Anyway, I wanted to tell you about that so you would know there are other people in the world with strange food relationships!!

Abilor, while being much smaller than you are, I also suffer from a hiatal hernia. Mine is due to a respiratory problem, I cough at night due to my crummy asthmatic lungs, and I have managed to cough my stomach (well part of it) through the diaphragm. This caused acid erosion of my lungs, becaue the stomach acid would come up into them when I was sleeping which in turn caused... you guessed it coughing!
I also am a coeliac (I do not say "suffer frm coeliac disease" because I don't suffer from it, it's just the way I am), and the many changes in diet being a coeliac needs, really helped me become so much more healthy (and increasingly skinny..., but like you I was more bothered about my health than my looks).
I just wanted to tell you, I understand! And I also really liked your diary, it is interesting to read.

You know what I hate about being fat? It makes me so sick with myself inside. I think that I don't deserve kindness. I don't treat myself well, and it becomes a real problem when I don't treat other people well either.

I feel judged constantly, and my emotional "fuse" is way short. I've been overweight for 22+ years now. Goddamn I can be a bastard.

So is it the fat making you do those things? Or is the fat a handy excuse for doing those things? Something to think about. (My undergrad degree is in Psych, so I thought I'd toss in that angle on analyzing human behavior.) :)

I think I may have been on the same path as you. I had started to have the bloating, gas, acid, etc. Luckily, I Think I may be making my changes in time. I agree about how much protein you can get without eating meat. I've also done some reading that speaks of the protein that can be had from things other than meat.

It sounds as if you've been through a lot to get to this point. The nice thing to know is that most, if not all, can be undone. It's great to know that we can make changes in our lives simply by making changes in our lives! (A lot of people want changes, but aren't willing to make changes)
:cheers2:

Usually I would make it all about the candy, and the pink frilly shit, and roses and all. High cheese factor.
LOL!

The thing I struggle with the most is that when it comes to healthy living, there are no days off.
Oh man, no shit! It's like "What about tomorrow? Can I drink a 12 pack and eat lasagna, sausages and ribs tomorrow?" Nope. Each day is the same! It's been said that it has to be a lifestyle change. Man are they correct! Day in and day out, we've got to stick to it to keep the lbs dropping off.

Sounds like one hell of a blender! What do you make in the dehydrator? I'd like to add some healthy options to keep it interesting.

You know, you're wife and mine sound sooo alike. Some of my friends wives have commented about what I've bought her for birthdays, christmas, etc. and said they'd be pissed if they got what I did for her. My wife is all set with a new washing machine, iron, blender, etc. Then my other firends wives wonder why they have high credit card debt and no money in the bank (wants over needs). Oh well, the nice thing is that I only have to deal with those women in short intervals!

Sounds like your wife is doing this (weight loss/healthy eating) thing with you. Man I wish my wife would. As I type, she's eating some rice (white, glue like kind) and the kid is eating ice cream. I'm luckily filled to the rim with water!

The catch is I have to buy her a ring. I want to get something nice
Man my buddy scored on ebay. He paid $1500 for this big ass ring. Had it appraised...$10,000!!! I'd be leary of buying something like that on ebay, but it worked out well for him.

I'm going to have to get one of those dehydrators. I thought they cost5 more than that. The chips sound good. I'm finding that all of the dried fruits in the stores have added preservatives and high fructose corn syrup added in. Would be nice to make all that stuff myself. I'm no hunter, but next time my folks give me some deer meat, I may just have to throw some in there!

I bet you really do get an energy kick from that stuff. Your insides are probably getting cleaner too and you can actually absorb the energy instead of passing most of it on through.

I found soy nuts today with nothing added. They sure are tasty. I figure they're a good source of fiber and some more protein. One more thing to throw into my breakfast/snack gut scraper mix!

Soy nuts... You might like something called "edamame." They're like pumpkin seeds I think, but they taste very different, kind of like little legumes. You can get them dry roasted or in a spicy variety. I end up eating them during football, so I always thknk, "edamame for the game.." I find them in the "hippie" section of the grocery store, but I think any health food store has them too..

They're absurdly high in protein and dietary fiber as well.

My wife (Japanese) feeds those to our son all the time. I like them on a salad. Look like lima beans to me. Yes, those are some healthy/tasty snacks too.

The soy nuts are different. Like a miniature roasted peanut. Taste different though. Check 'em out when you get a chance. I think you might like them too.
