Ab workout questions

I do 100x situps/legups a day every day, but workout with biceps, pecs & the rest every other day (recovery/recoup day inbetween).

Q1: Is 100 situps enough or is more required to really get fat shifted and 6pack shining through?

Q2: Is a recovery/recoup day inbetween workout days essential for all other muscle groups?, because I used to weight train every single day without fail for at least an hour when I was 17-18 years old with friends and I never looked better back then (Im 27 now)...

100 situps is alot and every day is way too much you need to give your muscles time to recover. Also abs workouts won't do much to remove fat. (abs are made in the kitchen not in the gym)
I do 60 per workout (different exercises) and at the end my abs hurt like there's no tomorrow, take your time doing each crunch don't rush through them.
Recovery to some degree depends on your genetics, but I'd say you definately have to give your body at least a day to recover.

EDIT: I used to do about 120 crunches per ab workout but that got me nowhere fast

^Thanx for the advice Incitatus...I will give them a recovery day 2day & work slower whilst doing them, cheers.

Doing 100x situps will do absolutely nothing if you aren't getting the most from them. In fact most trainers now agree that full situps really don't do as much as you'd think. Crunches are where it's at (Or so I've seen). You should really feel the burn after 25-35 reps and continue as needed. But you should really only do an ab workout 2-3x a week, working them every single day isn't going to do anything more and from what I gather, could end up hurting you in the long run. But don't hold me to that. Just some info I picked up here and there. :)

hold a 25lb dumbell behind ur head. lets see ya do 100 situps now. ;)

(but honestly, do weighted crunches. weighted crunches > crunches)

I do about 250 sit-ups a day (5 sets) but yesterday I could do 500 so I'm planning to contiunue that way. I usually start to get tired around the 30th on each set. I also do 100 leg raises everyday and 100 push-ups (also 5 sets) when my arms let me. Sometimes I really gotta take a day off or days off because I have no disponibility to do them exercises not cuz I'm majorily tired. I eat healthy (I love fish) but I got high craves for sugar which I try to fight daily lol
Any advices ?
oh I'm also planning to go to the gym over the summer cause University really takes me a lot of time and I know I should be doing more cardio since I only walk for like 30 minutes a day.

(I didnt make a new thread cuz I didn't think it was necessary)

i have great abs, and work them twice a week MAX

when i work them, i do 75 crunches (varied types) MAX

abs are about nutrition first, cardio second, and working out third.

doinghundreds of sit ups will strain your core, and could lead to long term problems.

Firstly I gotta say - I just realised that I placed this thread into the wrong area...

anyways:

I go swimming about 2-3x a week, but what other cardio would u advise?, cycling?, jogging?...

swimming is good cardio.
it is full body, and of fairly high intensity.
HOWEVER, as pools are cold, it has been proven to cause the body to store subcataneous fat (below the skin) as way of insulation. This will cause you to never get fully ripped through just swimming.

my other favourite 2 cardio exercises are running and rowing, however if you have a problem with your knees (namely with the synovial fluid) then avoid running as it is low impact

cycling is my next favourite

a good idea is to mix it up

another good idea it to do high intensity interval training

^Thanx Toby,
Im not too clued up on HIIT, what is it exactly?...
I enjoy the swimming, and am soon going back to boxing, thats a killer workout.
cycling = I need a damn bike, but will get one and look forward to that too.
cheers.

Up until last month I played high school soccer and club soccer year around (A LOT of running). Then last summer i wanted to bulk up a little because you all know how skinny soccer players are ;) so I lifted some and did crunches (about 75) 4-5 days a week through the summer and my abs actually got a lot more defined than i thought they would. Since I just took some pics today you can take a look.

Swimming is great for CV. The body is required to work 6X the amount it would compared to jogging (given the same intensity and duration). Swimming is easy on the joints. Toby, the storage of subcu fat was a result of the water being below 50 degrees farhenheit and swimming on a daily basis for extended amounts of time.

If you guys are pumping out super high reps for your abdominals, it's time to add some weight.
