Hello everyone.

Hmm, I am happy to have found this place! I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you and sharing stories. For an introduction, my name is Susan and my story is typical of your average, stressed out, unhealthy college student! I won't lie, I'm not super motivated at this point. I used to be pretty in-shape, running 6 miles a few times a week, working out consistently and eating healthy. I lost 15 pounds, and then I hit this slump. I started dating a guy and gained a few pounds back but adopted a lazy, unhealthy lifestyle.

I frustrate myself because I know that I'm pretty unhealthy, but I let the numbers trick me. I can fit into small and extra small clothes, and size 2 jeans, but I'm short and I know that I carry extra weight, about 20 lbs. I let myself get away with a lot...I also work 30 hrs/week and go to school full-time.

So, my plan...I'm going to start working out early in the morning. This means earlier bedtimes, and waking up earlier. That way, at least until I get back into it, I will get it out of the way first thing in the morning. On days that I work, I am going to start waking up at 4:30 (usually I wake up at 6) and going for a jog and doing some yoga. Luckily my current boyfriend likes eating healthy and being active (though I don't think I can convince him to wake up at 4:30 to go for a jog, lol).

I'm also going to start eating healthier. I live about 7 blocks away from a Whole Foods, so I'm going to start walking there to do my grocery shopping. I have a lot of food sensitivities and I've been letting myself indulge...thus making me feel worse all around. i don't feel as happy as I did when I ate healthy, and food kind of freaks me out. I just read that thing about fecal matter being present in soda....yuck. I'm giving that up right now. Also...I'm going to decrease alcohol consumption. I don't drink consistently, (tops one time a week) but when I do drink I usually am drinking to drink (hello, college). It's a lot of calories when I think about it.

I just have a hard time keeping myself accountable. My goal is by my birthday in June to be the healthiest I've been in my life. I'm not sure exactly what I weigh right now (probably about 135?) and am hoping I can lose up to 20 lbs.

Sorry to ramble on. Be well!

So I'm planning on getting a membership to a 24 hour gym within the next few days. It will be helpful with my hectic schedule...now I will have no excuse not to work out :)

I will be getting more detailed with these entries soon. I can't wait to start going full on into this journey :)

I want to say welcome! This group has been great for me on my early steps of this journey. I hope we can help you the same way.

To me, it sounds like you are doing all the right things. If you think it would help (it does me), keep a food diary. It can help you look back at things you might want to change.

I'm also all for the gym membership (just be careful of those contracts!)

Thanks for the great response!
I definitely am going to start keeping a food diary in here as I have seen others do. At the get go, starting this very moment, I am going to follow a 1300 Calorie diet. This is had when I am with my boyfriend who can eat anything and not gain a pound, but he's supportive of me in this and I know he will be a help. I am also completely cutting out soda. I have a Diet Coke problem and so far I've gone over a week without having one!! Usually I'd have at least 3/day. I'm replacing it with water and tea.

Breakfast:
Apple: 60 Calories
Piece of whole wheat toast with smart balance: 150 Calories
Serving of cottage cheese: 90 Calories

Snack:
Light Yogurt: 100 Calories

Lunch:
Ham Sandwich with whole wheat bread and light cheese: 470 Calories

Dinner

Total: 870 Calories

Obviously I still have to eat lunch and dinner and this is my first day so I'm not being super creative yet!

Anyways, I'm going to join the gym either today or tomorrow so that's exciting! I haven't figured out what my workout is going to consist of, but I'm hoping to get into some kind of schedule. I have so much to do between school and work, but I am determined to fit in working out. I know I will be a happier person. :)

Anyways, take care! I'll be back later to update my totals.

You know..diet drinks are ALL bad for you. The main numbers you really need to look at is caffine and sodium.

Least that's how I feel about it :)

Haha, yes. It's funny though, the only drinks I really like are water, black coffee, green tea, and Diet Coke. If I'm drinking alcohol I mix it with juice, but I don't even drink that much alcohol. I know tea and coffee have caffeine but...Diet Coke has become a "problem" in that I started drinking it in place of water. So, I'm just kicking it to the curb altogether rather than telling myself that I can limit myself, which is just not going to happen.

I'm not strong enough yet!!! Lol

Oops, so I haven't been keeping track of what I'm eating. I did good yesterday but last night my boyfriend took me out to dinner to our favorite restaurant.... :(

But! I am making progress. I joined a gym and worked out yesterday. It's frustrating because I know that I have to slowly build my physical fitness back up and what I really want to do is go hit the gym hard but I know that's not the best idea right now.

It's about progress and I'm slowly progressing. :)

Wow we seem to be the same person... I also have 20 pounds to lose, work 30 hours plus school full time (plus I dance 6 hours a week on top of the 50 hours week, never home before like 11 pm...) and I also have food sensitivities (or rather lactose intolerance and coeliac disease).

Well, have fun, you seem to know what you are doing, if you doubt something feel free to ask anybody or to read the stickies, they are great info.
Have a grea end of the week, Camy
