A quick question

I've been dieting for a week, and I've even managed to lose a few pounds (water weight I should imagine) I've just stopped binging, having bad food, and I've started eating healthily, and exercising. I dislike running but usually I can make myself do it, I've decided to have a rest from it today because I've had to find my boyfriend a birthday present so I was walking alot whilst shopping.
That and I want to do piliates, but I can't find the energy or the motivation, and a really weird thing happened. I became very very sad, and I really feel like crying.

Is this a normal feeling when you first start dieting, or is it just me?

Well ... gosh. That's really hard to say. :)

When you say "dieting" ... what do you mean exactly? Are you eating healthily? Are you eating enough? Are you balancing nutrients, or just cutting calories? If you're eating too little or not getting enough or well balanced nutrients, it can affect your moods - but it doesn't for everyone.

OTOH, are you normally prone to mood swings or do you ever feel like this around your period or during certain times of the month?

I think this is something that's very individual - each person reacts differently. A bad diet *can* absolutely affect your mood and it's been shown that diet has a direct relation to depression (either chronic or periodic). But it doesn't have to be about your diet.
