A question about losing fat

I've been strength training for a little over two months now, and I'm pretty happy with the progress I've been making so far. I've also been doing cardio 5-6 times a week and eating an extremely clean diet (mostly clean proteins and simple carbs). However, since my focus has been on increasing my strength and lower body mass, I haven't been focusing on losing the last bit of fat hanging around on my midsection.... I hear that attempting to make noticable strength and mass gains is counterproductive to attempting to lose fat...

So I guess I have two questions. Firstly, am I correct in believing that it's fairly pointless to aggressively strengthtrain/ bulk while at the same time aggressively losing fat? And secondly, if I am correct in believing this, what would be the most sensible way for me to interrupt my strengthtraining routine for a few weeks and burn off that extra fat? I can afford to lose a few weeks of progress with my strength in order to get rid of these last couple pounds of dead weight :)

Cutting fat and gaining strength can be done at the same time. Strength gains are neurological and not dependant upon mass. A very simple case of this is seen at the light weight divisions of olympic lifting in which those of very light weights are able to clean and jerk and snatch very heavy weights.

The fact that you are gaining muscle will help to burn fat at the same time. But if your main goal is to decrease your body fat, then go with that and don't worry about adding mass.

Case in point for me is when I was on The Velocity Diet and I cut out quite a bit of fat but my lifts kept increasing.

My focus is on gaining strength and mass, but I have this crappy little bit of fat on my gut that won't go away. I was going to try and focus on fat loss for a few weeks to get rid of that sonabitch.
