A pizza that deserves its own thread

I have a Sunday supper for some of my clients and every week they get something new so I have to get creative and keep trying new things out. For the past weeks though they just want stop begging for the pizza so I thought I would post it up here for you guys.

*this can work for any goal, BUT if cutting limit your processed bread intake, I would recommend this as more of a weekend thing more then everyday*

Items needed (little involved but worth it)
Note that you can substitute/add veggies for other veggies, just make sure low calorie or same calories as the ones you are trading out to keep the stats close.

BOBOLI 100% Whole Wheat crust (it must be this brand, most stores have it, in fact I have yet to not find it, but its always in a side section or hanging somewhere random. So ask a store clerk to help you find it if having trouble.)
4 ounces of 96% lean hamburger (rolled into balls and pre-cooked)
12 slices of turkey pepperoni
Half of small onion in long slices
1 cup of sliced mushrooms

Pizza Sauce
This is very important to the taste, make it as written and then if needed add for your desired taste. This is a restaurant style sauce though and what gives it that eating out flavor.

1 can of Hunt's Tomato Puree-(10 3/4 ounce)
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon splenda ( can use real sugar if desire taste wise just add it caloric wise)
1 teaspoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/8 teaspoon basil
1/8 teaspoon thyme
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

In small pot mix items together and let it come to a light simmer, stir and set aside. Sauce should make 3 pizzas so save what you don't need for later.

Putting together the pizza.
-Pre-Heat the oven to 425F
-With a large spoon spread pizza sauce on the inside of the pizza allowing some room on the edges. Remember that sauce makes three servings so be generous but don't over do it.
-Start adding in a circular form the onion, then mushrooms, then pepperoni, then hamburger.
-Slide in on middle rack and bake for 10-12 mins
-right before you take it out turn on broil and let the top go for NO MORE THAN 1 min. It can burn on you in an instant if not careful, if nervous just ignore this step. It just get the burger and pepperoni and nice finish.

Cut and serve with a side of Pepperchinis.

Here is the best part, the stats.

If you want to add some more protein you can up the ground beef amount of throw on some cheese if low fat or not worried about the fat content.

Making your own dough is sometimes fun too, but requires more planning ahead and work.

Do you know what the nutrition info would look like if you had homemade dough? I'm guessing it might be even less calories...?

(I'd been thinking about making my own pizza for quite a long time lol - might actually do it now)

I'm going shopping for the ingredients tomorrow. My family's Italian, so I don't think I'd be able to ever get used to eating pizza without cheese. What type of cheese do you recommend, or would just any low-fat cheese work out? Is the addition of cheese going to make the pizza significantly less healthy?

Teaspoon of splenda destroyed the sauce...really. Well given it is a teaspoon you could swap it with real sugar. Also using hunts sauce is important, this is a specific ingredient kind of pizza. I have had nothing but insane raves about it from clients and family when I make it.

And and the pic is actually coming, I made it yesterday for the Sunday meal and snapped a few.

Well it just seemed extremely sugary and the aftertaste from the splenda was horrible. I will use sugar next time. I think 1/4 teaspoon of splenda would've been about right but yeah sugar is a better option since I hate splenda. lol

Yeah I mean really I just am used to the stuff and also like a little sweeter sauce in general. It's a teaspoon ya know,it can be the real thing. A sauce is also a individual thing, you just in general flavor wise want to lean more towards pizza style over spaghetti.

Italian and pizza as being used in this case have nothing to do with each other... This pizza is the american bastardization of pizza btw. Italian pizza isn't even the same idea. (I've only worked in the industry for 3 years) But needless to say, non cheese, ewwww..

I feel those words are a little harsh. Anyway, I finally got around to making it over the weekend, with some low fat mozzarelle and using regular sugar instead of the splenda, and it was great.

Excellent recipe.

Yeah I have no idea what that is about or where anyone even mentioned the word Italian i relation to this pizza. I mean its a pizza....round tight much.

Regardless glad you enjoyed it.

Not meant to be harsh at all, but it does rub me the wrong way when people thing pizza and italian are truly one and the same in relation. Pizza came from Italy, in an entirely different form(Coincidentally everything I've seen on it shows it to actually be healthier than American standard) and didn't taste as good. Someone warped the concept and made it into this. :) But nothing harsh meant, just info. Sometimes its hard for me to convey that without sounding edgy, my apologies sir. Either way I like American pizza a lot so I will probably be trying to sometime, if I had time to get everything I'd make it at work today but eh. :)

It was mentioned earlier in the post leip.

good stuff. Though I couldnt find turkey pepperoni so I just used a little more lean beef. It was still very good. beat the hell out of what I was going to have today.
