A newly vegetarian chick's journey to lose weight, and finally be in great shape.

Those calories sound more like it! Well done :D Will def try a tofu recipe and let you know what it's like!

Ty ty *bows* Haha thanks for being the adventurous one. I tried tofu once back when I was a vegetarian, and I disliked it so much I completely avoided it.

Friday 10/22/10

1 granny smith apple: est 80 calories
1 cup of kashi cereal :140 cal
1 cup of plain almond milk: 60 cal

4 rice cakes (white cheddar cheese flavor):180cal

2 cups of pasta sauce : 320cal<-------wow too many calories
with est 2 cups of cooked ziti: est 440 cal
with frozen broccoli: est 30 cal
(no added salt or oil to this meal, very filling)

16 oz water

I've eaten around 1250 calories today. Lol it's so much easier to reach my caloric requirements when I add simple carbs like the rice cakes and pasta.

I'm gonna head to the gym and pound the eliptical and burn off around 300 cal for 45 min of exercise.

Not sure what my approach to losing weight will be. If I maintain a caloric intake of 1200 to under 1300 I should lose weight. I do know that our bodies process different foods in different ways so it can't just be about measuring the calories I am eating. Lol can't wait until I meet the new nutritionist next wednesday.:nopity:

Went to the gym, did the 45 minutes on the eliptical. Drank a pint of water and ate 10 raw almonds

Hmm how do I add a weight loss ticker? I tried to add one but I failed. :(

Ticker factory is the place. Once you set up a ticker, copy the bulletin board link into your signature. Make sure its the link that works with Vbulletin types.

I was looking at your food a bit also, and I will make a comment here. If you are in a calorie deficit (which you are) and you are trying to be a vegetarian, then you need to very seriously look into your protein intake. It's important enough for someone just trying to lose weight, even moreso for a vegetarian since its more difficult to get from plant sources. I recommend nuts, beans tofu (and other soy products), and yes I saw the Kashi there which is certainly higher because of the soy.

You mention vegan vs. vegetarian. Are you against the idea of dairy? Because fat free Greek yogurts are very high in protein.

Anyhow, thought I'd pop in over here cuz I saw you in Sunflower's diary and got a chuckle out of your post. Figured I'd say hi.

:cheers2: for Cabbie!

Cabbs, you're the best! Thanks for teaching me how to add the ticker.

I've noticed from some of the posts you've left on other threads that you are a playful perv just like moi. So from one fellow playful perv to another welcome!

Thanks for reminding me to pay attention to how much protein I am eating. I've been concentrating on eating enough calories that I totally forgot to pay attention to how much protein I am eating.:willy_nilly: I am not opposed to eating dairy. I can devour a package of mozzarella cheese by myself in one sitting. Lol I was just trying to avoid it for the time being. I think I will start to eat some greek yogurt. I bet my calcium levels are pretty low too. :seeya:

Hello Miss Baggins,

*puts hand up*

Another playful perv here as well! There are loads of us on here! Bloody marvellous!

Also, have definitely eaten a whole..ball (?) .. of mozzarella before. Cheesy goodness <3 I like peeling bits off it. Half the fun of eating for me is the million different ways I can shove something in my jabba the hut like mouth. NOM NOM NOMMMM.

Anyway, have a gorgeous day :D

Saturday 10/23/10

Yesterday I worked out at the gym for 45 minutes. The machine said I burned over 500 calories. I'm not sure if that is accurate, but I am definitely pushing it hard there.

I weighed myself today at home and the scale says I weigh either 157 or 158. I weighed myself in my undies and first thing in the mornin'. I've lost 3-4 pounds which is good but not quite what I wanted. It's so much easier to lose weight on a lean protein, low-carb diet. I was shedding around 7+ pounds per week. I'll take the slow weight loss instead of eating any more of our animal friends. :)

Thought of the day.

Today's thought of the day is:

Why is it that I easily gain weight everywhere except on my t*ts? :cuss:

Haha. Miss Baggins here at your service.

Any time there is a gathering of playful pervs that is a good thing.

" Half the fun of eating for me is the million different ways I can shove something in my jabba the hut like mouth. NOM NOM NOMMMM." Lol that is too funny.

Hope you have a gorgeous day too, and that you feel better. : )

I don't consider myself a playful perv (hehe) but still wanted to say hi and good luck, Zera! :seeya:

Hi Laura. :) Haha I think we all have a playful perv inside of us, even if we don't let anybody else see it. ;)

Thanks for the well wishes, and I wish you the best of luck too. :)

I've been away for a while. A little bit over three months. In that time I have gone up and down in weight. I'm glad to be back having lost a few pounds. The new year was a new start, but how many of us flaked out on our new years resolutions within the first month? I certainly did. What drives us to sabotage ourselves and make the battle of the bulge a hard one to win? I think its a lack of self love. How many of us hate our bodies and have such low self-esteem? We hate our bodies because they aren't perfect, yet our body isn't to blame. We were the ones that put all of that junk in it. Our body is a reflection of that. Why did we let things get so out of control? I hate my body because it isn't the ideal shape I want it to be. If I want to have an ideal healthy shape I need to love myself enough to put healthy nutritious food in my body and exercise. Our bodies will adapt. We just have to love ourselves enough to take care of it.

On the road to veganism.

:auto:

When I became a vegetarian I didn't set out to become a vegan, but that's definitely the path I am heading towards. I don't miss cutting out animal meat or eggs, but I do miss eating cheese. Cheese is a trigger food for me. If I eat it I cannot stop myself from going on a cheese binge. I had cut it out of my diet for a while, and I when I ate it again I realized that it made me really congested. I may have it some time again in the future but for now I consider myself "vegan-ish."

I gave tofu a try but I just cannot stand it. That also applies to seitan and tempeh. I cut mock meats out of my diet. They don't really agree with my body. I was feeling sick for a while when I was eating them. I get the majority of the protein I need from grains, beans and legumes, and hemp seeds. I lost five pounds in a week just by cutting out dairy and sticking to a whole food based diet. I now weigh between 154-155 pounds. That is a good start for me. That weight loss was based on diet alone. I am now adding exercise anew.

I am now doing the P90X lean program.

I had bought it in March of 2010, but gave up on it because I just really wasn't committed to this journey. It is very intense. The reason why I went back is because the creator Tony Horton became vegan himself and adapted the program to fit a vegan lifestyle. I figured if he could do the intense exercises as a vegan, then so could I.

I am following these eating guidelines from phase two of the program:

Protein: 4 servings
fruit: 1 serving
vegetables: 3 servings
Carbs:
Legumes: 1.5 servings
grains: 1.5 servings
fats: 1 serving
snacks: double servings
1 condiment

New month new start.

I've been working on cleaning up my diet for the past few weeks. I wanted to start the first day of February by kicking it up a notch. I'm going to make sure that I will exercise every day this month as I continue to work on my fitness goals.

February 1st, 2011: Tues

-Protein shake: I cup of vanilla almond milk, 1 banana, 2 tablespoons of Hemp seeds
-7 raw almonds
-8oz vitamin C drink ( emergen-C)
-1 tablespoon of peanut butter

-salad: cucumber, raw spinach, tomato, cilantro
lemon dressing: 1/2 lemon, 1 tsp olive oil & salt

-1 cup of wild rice

-1 1/2 c of red lentil soup

est 32oz of water

Exercise:
Cardio X

Wed. 2/211-

-Hemp protein shake

-1 slice of whole wheat bread with 1 tblsp of peanut butter

-8oz vitamin C drink
-1 med bowl of strawberries

-32oz water

1 2\1/2 c of red lentil soup. - Added raw spinach and cilantro to it

-cucumber, spinach & tomato salad with lemon dressing.

Exercise:

Shoulders & Arms- used 3lb weights

+ Ab ripper X

Thurs 2/3/11

-Hemp Protein shake
-2 cups of pasta with homemade spinach pesto sauce: 1 tablespoon of olive oil, a bundle of spinach, 1/4 of pine nuts (roasted them), garlic clove, dried basil, then salt and black pepper

Naughty zone:

ate 3 medium sized corn muffins

Mindless eating at its worse. I gave in to the craving and kept munching away.
Each muffin has anywhere from 250-400 calories. Its worse than a slice of pizza! At least with pizza you get some nutritional content from the cooked tomato sauce.
Empty calories at its worse here.

-16 oz of green tea

I adjusted my caloric intake so after eating those muffins I just had 1 tablespoon of peanut butter after my workout

-around 48 oz of water

-Yoga X video.
92:24 minutes of exercise. Very intense.

My body, especially my arms, are very sore from just three days of doing these exercise. I am absolutely loving feeling the burn.

:)

Woots just drank another 16 oz of water, but i'll probably be peeing all night.

PS, sorry for the TMI,

but I know you love it :sifone:

Late night thoughts...

From now on I shall be posting my weight with stone measurements and not LBS.

So I weigh approximately 11 Stone.

I feel skinnier already. :cheers2:

I found a link to a calorie calculator on another thread and I find this information to be very interesting.

Women's Calorie Calculator Results

These calorie calculator results will help you understand how many calories you need to maintain your current weight, and the number of calories needed per day to achieve your goal weight in a healthy, steady manner.

You need 1988.6 calories per day to maintain your current weight without exercise.

You need 1818.4 calories per day to reach your goal weight slowly and maintain that weight without exercise.

If you reduce your current caloric intake to 1488.6 calories per day you will lose one pound per week without exercise.

If you increase your current caloric intake to 2488.6 calories per day, you will gain one pound per week.

Exercise and Calorie Needs

If you exercise for 30 minutes each day, you may increase your caloric intake to 2207.2 calories per day and still maintain your current weight.

If you exercise for 60 minutes each day, you may increase your caloric intake to 2480.4 calories per day to maintain your current weight.

If you exercise for 30 minutes each day, you will be able to reach your goal weight with 2016.6 calories per day.

If you exercise for 60 minutes each day, you will be able to reach your goal weight with 2264.2 calories per day.

Macronutrients

The United States Department of Agriculture suggests that approximately 50 percent of your calories come from carbohydrates, about 30 percent from fats, and approximately 20 percent from protein sources. One gram of protein has about four calories, one gram of fat has about nine calories, and one gram of carbohydrate has about four calories.

You need 248.6 grams of carbohydrates, 65.6 grams of fat, and 99.4 grams of protein per day for 1988.6 calories to maintain your weight of 155 pounds.

You need 227.3 grams of carbohydrates, 60 grams of fat, and 90.9 grams of protein per day for 1818.4 calories to maintain your goal weight of 115 pounds.

For now I will try to stick with the eating guidelines given in the P90X nutrition book.

The goal for this week is to stick to the P90X lean program and exercise every day.

I usually tend to flake out within the first few days.

Next week I will start to look at how many calories I am consuming.

Hope to join the gym soon.

My first big weight loss goal is to weigh 130 pounds.

I've gone down to the 140s before but I could never commit enough to maintain the weight or even go down to 130 even though I was only 15 pounds away.

Here is the link to the calorie counter:
