A little discouraged!

Oookay, so I "changed my lifestyle" in late January and immediately stopped having junkfood and pop.. Lost 5 pounds! So woohoo, we're off to a good start. I started exercising and picked up an elliptical machine. Now I do cardio 3/4 times a week for 45 mins, and do weight training with 15lb dumbells on arms and legs on the same days as the cardio. Included all pushups, situps, dips blah blah, pretty much every exercise I can think of. Those are my "workout days".

Been sticking to that wonderful routine since, and get this, I have not lost ONE POUND!! That's right, healthy food, keeping my calories around 1500, drinking bucketfuls of water, sweating out the cardio and all the weight training, and not one pound lost on the scale. Okay, okay, I have lost inches off my legs and stuff and that's more important right? I've gone down dress sizes pretty fast and I am looking leaner. But why not even 1 Pound? Give me something scale! Just 1 pound!! LOL

Before I started all of this, I would eat whatever I wanted and simply go to work 5 days/wk at my physical job and never lose anything nor gain. I would have thought that all of this work would have given me at least 1 little pound..

Almost seems like I can stop with the veggies and grab the chocolate instead because no matter what I do, there is no difference almost ....

I know it's just that I'm gaining muscle and losing fat, but c'mon! lol

Anyone else get this way? Let us rant! Grr!! :biggrinjester::smilielol5:

how long has it been since you've lost a pound? A week? A month?

*edit*
also, you look awfully healthy in your avatar, how tall are you and how much do you weigh?

so its been about a month....i know i just edited the above question, maybe you didn't see...how tall are you and how much do you weigh?

Right now I am 5'6" and 135 pounds. Which is healthy yes, but I'd like to get very lean and athletic.. I still have a heavier bottom half I'd like to take care of.

yea, i just saw your B&A pics...looks like you've come a long way and I"m really impressed. I really really wouldn't advice you to loose another pound, thats a totally healthy weight and anything less might be bad..I'd have to check out a BMI chart to know for sure...but really, I'd just suggest some self acceptance, we all have parts of our bodies we dont' LOVE LOVE LOVE, but thats the way it is. Look at how far you've come, how great you look and let go of the idea that your bottom half is big, b/c its totally not :)

I just checked your BMI, your at 21, at 18.5 or below your considered underweight which carries alot of medical problems!

Thanks! And yes I know it's healthy and I'm fairly satisfied with myself now, but I'd like to take it a step further and just get a little ripped if you know what I mean lol Tone up my thighs and butt, which do have unnecessary fat on them. Maybe I won't LOSE any pounds, but just gaining muscle in those areas will burn the fat, but actually give me more pounds on the scale? I don't know, everyone here seems to be losing weight like crazy and I just want a pound. lol

yea, gaining muscle, which will give you the ripped look your after, will show pounds gained on the scale (over time) Muscle weighs more than fat. So don't worry so much about that number on the scale, just know that your not loosing weight b/c your gaining some muscle :)

I guesssss.... It was just a rant, to never see the scale moving, it's like nothing is happening. I did lose 2/3 inches on each thigh which is what counts and is pretty cool!

I"m sure....i understand being upset, but just realize that your not gonna loose weight very easily now that your at such a healthy size.

You did a great job!! WTG :)

I'm having the same problem recently, and I'm 60 lbs over weight (whether or not it's all fat, I don't know). I work out like a maniac, and consume like 2,000+ calories (good for my size, 6 foot 1, 237 lbs).

I feel a lot leaner I guess, more athletic, and I can see a difference in my belly, but it's kinda hard when the scale doesn't back me up. :(

Guess I should start taking measurements biweekly.

maybe you should consider stepping off the scale for a bit? if we live and die by the scale we'll only go crazy. if you want to gain muscle, the scale certainly isn't going to help you chart your progress. you looking freaking fantastic. others may disagree but you may find what you are looking for if you really focus on gaining muscle for a while. try taking a look at this...

LandonsBaby - that was exactly the thread I had in mind as I was reading this - great post!

I complain about this pretty much every day. I am working my ass off and eating practically nothing, but I can't lose a lb either. I've actually managed to gain a couple somehow.

So, at least you're not going the other way. XD
