Hello everyone! :D
My name is Jenn and im 28 years old and I live in CT. I have been trying to lose weight and eat healthier my whole life and now its come down to if i want to be able to have children or not and be healthy. I know that I need to lose weight for myself, I just am not able to do it alone so I thought I would go somewhere that people just "get it". Ive tried Weight Watchers, and all the "fad" diets and routine gym excersizing, but nothing seems to work for me. I have even thought of Gastric surgery, but that scares me to death! (plus, I kind of feel that it's cheating,in a weird way) I hope that I can get alot of motivation from seeing how well all of you are doing and hopefully build some momentum from ther! Thanks for any suggestions you may have. heres a bit about me in short:
LOVE any type of baked good
is 5'2 and tipping in at 302lbs(scary!)
has started a 2000 cal. diet
cut out soda and fake fruit juices
trying to quit smoking
trying to learn to listen to my stomach and not my brain, ( i eat when i am bored or stressed)
learning to get up and move more, tried that walking everyday, going to the gym thing and it doesnt work for me.
has a dog named Fenway that is even lazier then I am
need a good friend on my weightloss journey!

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Do spend time reading around the forum -there's good information in the stickied threads that will help you on your way...

What sticks out at me in your first post is that you're 'trying' to do a lot at once.. that's often a recipe for disaster for people.. they attempt to do 20 things, when they fall short it's very easy to give up on everything.

I'd suggest picking one thing... like your food and keep track of what you're eating so that you know where your nutrients end up on a weekly basis.. there are a ton of free sites on the web that will help you keep track of stuff easily.

once you've got that mastered - move on to the next habit you want to start while keeping with the recording of food.

Big changes begin with little steps.. you have to start somewhere.. and not overwhelming yourself is always a good start.

I hear you...

totally know how you feel. weight has been a lifelong issue for me too. Like you I'm petite - 5foot nothing, and I'm also asian. how many overweight asians do you know? like NONE. not so good for my self esteem when everyone expects me to be a slip of a girl and not a heffalump!

I'm starting my weight loss journey again today. Look forward to hearing about your progress and journey too!

p/s I also have a dog lazier than me called Harvey ;)

I agree with Mal on taking on one thing at a time. Whenever I try to do too much I get overwhelmed and want to quit. However, one thing I will say is that it is possible to lose weight and stop smoking at the same time. I am nearly 8 weeks smoke free and I have stuck to my diet (okay, well, for the most part) along the way. There are others here that have tackled the same thing and won. It's not easy at all but it can be done. AND once you have been smoke free for a few weeks you will be amazed at how much better you feel. I already have more energy, I can breathe better, I can actually go up steps without getting winded, and my nose works better, too. :D

Like Mal said, pick a goal and work towards that goal. After you achieve that goal, pick another. Approach your weight loss much the same way - don't focus on the big picture and how much you have to lose, take it five or ten or fifteen pounds at a time. Each success will motivate you to accomplish another goal.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great people here. :)

I think alot of my " i have to do 12 things at once" mentality comes from my mother. I love her to death but that woman puts her heart into everything and works and works and works from 5 am to 9 or 10 pm non stop! but i do agree that it doesnt much help. As far as the quitting smoking and the diet, i am going to concentrate on the diet most and then if i can not smoke/ have one a day or so, or whatever i will work on that as weell little by little. I totaly bummed myself out today trying to go smoke free and totaly over ate and now i need a nap and a tummy rub :( Thank you all for your great advice, Im going to keep reading!
