a few questions about adding muscle and losing fat

This is my first post on these forums, so hi, everyone! I've been working out at a local gym for about two months now, and while I've started to succeed at my main goal of adding muscle, I've decided that I'd also like to lose some fat, especially around my mid section (although I know you can't target fat loss). The odd thing about me is that I'm 22 years old, 5-9, and 143 pounds, but I have love handles. My question is, how can I reduce my body fat while continuing to add muscle? For the past week or so, I've been jogging for 3 miles almost daily and I play basketball a few times a week--will that be enough to get rid of this fat? Or is this more about diet (although I should say that since I've been working out, I eat pretty healthy--little junk food, lots of water, lots of protein, lots of produce)? Thanks in advance for your answers, everyone!

Fat loss is more about what you eat then what you do. Watch your calories, keep them to a limit and you'll lose weight.

Muscle loss requires you have extra calories around your body to build muscle so you'd need to eat more. Weight loss requires you have a calorie deficit so you'd need to eat less- you can't do both at the same time from a scientific point of view but what you could do is work on weight loss until your happy and then work on muscle building after that.

Weight loss is hard, can't really advise as I am hitting my own head against a brick wall with this too! I just plain eat too much but I eat too many portions of fruit and vegetable rather then anything else, just gets way out of control, I keep trying but I also keep having too many bad days for all my hard efforts to make a difference. My won fault, my own problem. Good luck with yours though!
